Well, I guess the gun and bogies are pretty much done. I am planning on adding the figs and the bike that comes with the kit (why not) so I am working on some kind of base. Might turn into a bit of a diorama, but basically I just need somewhere to put all this stuff that is not my cutting mat.

Oh, forgot to ask, can someone explain the reels on the bogies? They are called communication reels, but I find very few images of real bogies that still has them attached. What is the cable for?

It does look great, John! And I like the figure as well, but you should be aware that the device he is using is the direct aiming optics, so the gun should have roughly the same elevation than the optics... (probably slightly higher). The bar on the indicatr also shows an almost horizontal position of the gun... Just my 2 cents

Oops. Ah well, too late now! I actually had a tough time to get that guy into his spot. He can't reach both the aiming device and the wheel he is supposed to hold at the same time. So I had to fudge things a bit there.
I'll post some closeups of him and the guy on the other side a bit later.

Thanks for the kind words Christian and Nicholas! It has been quite a fun build so far.

The communication cables are to connect the guns of a battery to a central stereoscopic director.

Very Nice Flak, John. Nice job on the camouflage and weathering.

The figures might benefit from new heads and equipment as I recall, but can still be used as look quite good.

Looking forward to see more

The 88 look great John, looking forward to seeing more progress.

Quick update on HSM Dragon, I have been making slow progress, on filling and filing.

I am beginning to get slightly miffed with this kit, the concept of the construction is great, it just doesn't quite work in the real word.

Still plugging on.

Cheers.

Hi Si,

I've never built a ship before, looks like a lot of work!

Hi John,

And this one is more work than most, the vast majority of ship kits do not have the fit issues that this one does, I do think Airfix overthought their approach to the semi stealthy shape of the Type 45, and giving the builder the full hull / waterline option.

Cheers

Filing done, well this bit of it anyway.

A few more structural bits to go, then I can get some paint on this beast... I hope.

Thanks Guys,

The WH40K kits are simple but the quality, fit and detail is great.

All I can say about HMS Dragon on that score is 2 out of 3 is pain in the butt.

Cheers

Starter picture. I'm doing the ZPU-1 from Meng's Hilux kit. I'm saving the Hilux for something else so I'm starting off building the gun as a standalone with its crewman. I might place it in the back of a BJ212 "jeep" or a Mutt. I have to see how it builds up and how it would look.

Just a cursory look of the kit, the kit is not bad. It has some PE that looks potentially fiddly but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I'll probably start on it after I get a few things caught up.

Great progress, everyone. Still house-hunting in Virginia but will hopefully have the bench resurrected in a month or two.

A little progress on HMS Dragon,

The underpinnings on, bilge keels, stabilizers, prop shafts and supports, and rudders.

More over the weekend (I hope)

Cheers.

Dio looking good so far John,

Masking up for spraying, one of these days I am going to learn to do hangers closed, the seaboat bays are masked using the closed doors.

Bridge windows filled with Krystal Klear, this will be cut out and replaced after painting.

The lower hull sprayed Halfords red primer.

More soon.

Looks very nice, John. I have seen pictures of flak emplacements like this although the wooden logs went all the way around the emplacement. I am sure that there were different kinds. Looks great.

Si, all your hard work with filling and sanding is really paying off. It will be an awesome looking ship! Looking forward to see more.

Ok, for better or worse, I am done. I am fairly happy, largest "diorama" I have ever made, so I learned some things. I hope you guys like it!

I am also very much looking forward to seeing all the other completed models and dios!

Here is the whole album with in progress and some more views of the final thing, and a few closeups. http://imgur.com/a/pfEVG

(PS: I am not sure what exactly the bike guy is looking at, he is fairly bug eyed. :op )
