Mrs Duster was working late today, so managed to get a bit more done.

The screws, according to the instructions they are designed to rotate, however for the sake of a decent finish the end caps have been glued to the screws rather than trapping them on the shafts.

Painted citadel basecoat gold.



drybrushed "auric armour gold" and fixed in place.



next job, getting the hairl=y stick out and painting the deck.

I have temperarily halted the M163 Vulcan build, to regain my sanity! the first effort at painting wasn't what I wanted so I stripped the paint. I had completed the black and brown paint and painted the green. It came out of the same can used first time a very different green So the kit is in the penalty box for the moment.
I have started the AFV Club M7301A1 Chapparal kit, which covers the second half of the US Army air defense battalion systems in the 70/80s.

I had to charge my camera battery before I could take and post the pictures.
Below are two pictures of the drivers compartment:
I have completed most of the chassis and will post more pictures later.

Tough luck, Jeff. Cans can be unreliable. Depending on pressure, temperature, how much you shake the, etc. they can provide different results. Airbrush is really the way to go.

Getting there.

Paint on the deck and the back of the foremast, and mainmast.



The Aerial on the main topmast as moulded.



There are four "dipoles" to be added to both sides, however the WEM set comes with finer detail.

I have striped all the moulded detail from the mast.



And fitted the etch.



Much finer.

And sprayed black.

This one is pure Trumpter. Lots of fiddly bits with loads of sprue attachment points.
Wishing Tamiya had released this kit.
well drawn, but less than precise instructions. Making me glad I have the WWP book on the Gaz with the section on the Zu.

The WWP book is going to be invaluable for this build

10+ pages of modelers eye views for the gun. Trumpeter's instructions just dont quite do it.

For example, the guns both tilt inwards to meet the shell ejector housing.

The instructions and locations for the guns do not make this very clear.
Overall Trumpeter did a pretty good job. Their plastic scars where attachmenbt points were, but sand smooth pretty easily. A coat of primer will let me double check.





The results of the first four steps and 41 parts..


Be careful folding the spent shell tray. You are supposed to fold AWAY from the lines here and not into them like most etch. Luckily the etch is pretty thick and unfolding and refolding correctly did not snap the piece.

The rest of the guards and seatbacks and braces are also pretty thin with lots of attachments.

Looks a little better with the primer. I've scraped the seam at the rear of the left gun. A little bit more scraping here and there before moving on.

Tom, nice choice of kit.

However, remember to test fit and sand the missile boxes very carefully. I had problems with those in my kit when I build it. Maybe I was unlucky with a lot of flash or did not pay enough attention.

Otherwise the kit is a breeze.

Finally found a place to live here in Coastal Virginia, but still going to be awhile before our stuff gets here from Japan and I get the bench re-established. Hopefully I can get my own build going before time runs out!

I've got one of those in progress, been sitting for a while. My problem was that the gunners station behind the glass there at the bottom of the launcher assembly is completely bare.. In fact, I don't think I even remember DML providing a clear window into the compartment. But it has been a while.
Overall the build is no frills, but that's a big miss on their part.

Okay, I dug around in my stash and found that the only thing I have that's suitable is the old Matchbox M16 "meat chopper" Half-Track. It's certainly "Flak-y", and it's unstarted!
