Tom & Mike,
I built the Cyberhobby boxing of the Gaskin for another campaign. The launcher base is empty but you could scratch up a rudimentary interior. Any crew inside would have to be cut off just below the shoulders.

As an aside, the launcher base will need some trimming to get the missile racks to clear the base sides and line up to their locating pins. It's not hard to fix...but it'd be easier to know beforehand.

I'm still in but I might do a Trumpeter LAV-AD instead of the ZPU-1. I've actually started on the ZPU but haven't posted any progress pictures yet.

Some great builds going on this campaign, have enjoyed catching up on this thread.

A bit more progress on the Dragon.

Now the main structure is done, on with some sub assemblies. Domes for the foremast, including the big one that goes on top, the radar on the after? mizzen? mast, whatever they call it on a modern RN destroyer, and the 4.5" gun turret. The gun was quite complex, but unusually for this kit went together very well.



Harpoons, yes I know due to HMG's parsimonious defence spending the '45s don't have them yet, if they ever will. This, however, is going to HMS Dragon as she should be.

The brass blast deflectors from the WEM set, one built and one under construction. I am also replacing the kit Harpoons with Veteran model replacements.



Decals on.



Including the Dragon on the bow.



Needs some flat clear shooting at it t, matt everything down yet.

That looks great--your 40mm gun looks like it's had a really tough time in the weather. If I can offer one suggestion, it would be to spray some matte finish on your figure; he looks a little shiny, although that could just be the lighting.

Hey Mark! your suggestion is greatly appreciated! yeah its a mix of light and texture; i just took the picture as soon as i finished the figure; i will spray a little bit of tru film lacquer and see the results. And yes, i really love to see the vehicles under though situations. :-) cheers and thanks!

I have been missing from this forum as I underwent a total knee replacement Monday, 21 September. I finally decided to test the pain level sitting in a normal chair at my computer, my laptop being on the fritz. It may be a couple more weeks before I can tolerate the pain, or pain is reduced to do meaniful work on my two kits. One reason I picked this build was the long work period which can accomodate my surgery and recovery.
I will continue to watch the excellent work of other campaigners.

Hope you're feeling better soon. I got back into this hobby when I was chair-bound after surgery to fix a compound fracture in my knee so I'm there with you. Hopefully my household goods will arrive soon so I can get started on my build!

The Harpoons are veteran Models (Wish I got their CWIS too)

Yard arms attached to the foremast. The WEM Yard arms are finer and mire detailed, but a little too fine for the real thing, so I used the kit parts, some WEM aerials were added.

The postman dropped this off a few minutes ago. So I'll be doing the Trumpeter USMC LAV-AD kit. I feel alot better about building this one than the ZPU-1. I should start on it this week. I built the Trumpy LAV-R for the last 8x8 Campaign so I'm familiar with the basics of the kit.

The sub assemblies have been sprayed, and detail painting done on the guns,



Breakwaters on the fo'c's,le.



The decals have been matted too.

4.5" and harpoons on place.



On modern RN vessels the stantions are hull colour, and the rails black, base colours, just needs a tidy up.



30mm and CWIS on, again the safety netting is black.

A bit more progress today.

The radar on the after mast painted and in place.



Finally remembered to clear out the masking from bridge windows, just need to find the Krystal Klear to re glaze them.



Liferafts and foredeck railings in place.



The whip aerials on the main mast deck fitted as moulded.



Way too thick, so they have been cut off, will drill holes and fit fine wire replacements at the end of the build.



Domes fitted on the foremast.



More next weekend, with a bit of luck.

Welcome aboard to the newcomers!

A quick update on the LAV-AD.

I started with the suspension and drivetrain. Trumpy really simplified assembly but detail is still good. You'll notice two of the ends of the drive rods are broken off. These were broken when I pulled the sprues from their plastic. It should be an easy fix. There was another broken piece but I haven't figured out where it belongs yet.


Progress. All the drive units mounted. Front coil/strut assemblies mounted. I left the struts loose until I placed the suspension arm units. It just helps with placement.




Suspension arms added. Also added the amphibious drive units to the rear. The two tow mounts and tie-downs were also added.


Shocks. These can be a little fiddly. They are sided and differ between front steerable sets and the non-steerable ones. Added the front and rear skidplates and the front trim panel. Finished off the undercarriage with the wheel mount arms.


I decided to go ahead and paint the underside. It'll make it easier to paint later. I won't have to worry about breaking off detail bits on the top while trying to spray the undercarriage. I have two sand LAVs on the display shelf so I'll probably go overall green here.


So far a good little build. I really enjoy these Trumpeter LAVs. They're a huge improvement over the old Italeri ones.
