Martin-Great job on your Elephant, love that weathering. The rubber band tracks are a pain. I gave up on my elephant when I tried one a few years ago due to the tracks. You might inspire me to finish the one in my pile.
You've completed one to proud of.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Thank you Don

Thanks Clayton, I hope you’re right...

Anyway, Das Truppenfahrrad is now painted!

To add some interest to that boring Tamiya German Grey bike body, I added a 1:1 mix of German Grey & Flat Black acrylic for the tires, chain, seat, and hand grips for a barely discernably different shade of “scale black.” The only other color was the white night safety strip on the rear fender. Then the whole got its wash of Grumbacher Raw Umber artists oil.

The concave headlamp interior was painted silver; the glass is a disc of clear acetate cut with the .063 inch punch from the Waldron Sub-Miniature punch and die set.

I got started back up about a month ago and here is my progress.
First, I decided to have it wheels up in mid flight, but the doors did not fit in the up position so I used putty to fill it in instead.

It turned out well enough in the end.

The top is also coming along

Now off to finish it by assembling the ammo, loading her up, and popping the canopy on top.

You know, I thought hard about that! Many of the pics I've seen show silver spokes, but some do seem to show them painted (probably to prevent glinting), so either would be correct. I went with painted spokes mostly because silver spokes would have been REALLY distracting against the black bike in this small scale!

David,
I'm glad to see you're still working at it. I've been thinking a lot bout wheel's up on planes lately. They always look best flying.

After a long break I got a bunch more work done.

Added welds and such, just need to do the bits for the hatches.

Closed off the sponsons with evergreen, as well as the area by the air deflectors. Air deflector is getting some reworking. Added some rear mud flaps.

A look at the rear, I added an antenna mount. Thought about throwing a ball mounted DT and hand rails back there. Cleaned up that rear plate area for two fuel drums and a unditching log.

Front plate got the Mr.Surfacer treatment. Made my own front fenders using spare T-34 fenders. Also thought about a ball mounted DT. For sure, spare track on the front, and T-34 style tow hooks. Finishing touches would be the light and horn.

Lastly, side skirts would finish off the look I think. Should have thought ahead about the front fenders, could have been a single piece with the evergreen closing off the sponsons. The way I mounted the front fenders is noticeable from the sides so I kinda want to hide it.

Comrade,
That looks way cool!! I've been wondering about this build the last few days, and really hoping you'll get it done.

David,
Love the A-10--probably my all-time favorite plane. Did you cut the wheels in half to mount them after filling the wheel wells? Very clever approach.

BTW, you may want to check some reference photos. The engine exhaust ducts appear to be sticking way too far out the back of the nacelles.

Got this finished up last week in time for the AMPs Nats over the weekend. Thanks for a great campaign and so much fantastic inspiration from everyone involved!

Chris,
Fantastic job! Very well weathered and faded. The replacement bogey is a cool touch. The dry dirt, chain in a box, and paint modulation give nice interest to a monochrome finish.

Congratulations on completing the campaign!

Hull assembly is completed.

Hull painted.

Roadwheels are finished.

Camo is done

Raj,
Camo looks great! Love the way you let the bare metal on the bogeys show.

I know you're pressed for time. Just don't forget to pop a couple of pics into the campaign gallery before your trip.

Hey everyone!
Only a few days left to go. There are a few who haven't put photos into the campaign gallery though they completed their builds some time ago.

Please get them in.

All finished!
The maverick tri-mount would not fit without knocking the bomb over so I had to pop them off and mount a sad and lonely maverick on each side

Yeah I got the wheels there by cutting them in half and fitting them over the putty. I noticed the exhaust as well, but only after I had painted everything. I checked the instructions and I assembled everything correctly, they are just out of scale.

I think I am done with 1/144 aircraft. This is the 4th one that I have done and I have had problems with things being out of scale on all but 1 of them. Like the Maverick tri-mount being too wide to sit next to the bomb where the instruction sheet wanted me to put it. It was fun experimenting with the scale, but I think I will chose another next time.

With the super-simple paint job on the bike done, all that remained was to attach the Panzerfaust rockets. After super gluing them to the bike, I “tied” them to the fork and handlebars with strips of Tamiya tape painted with Model Master Leather enamel. The buckles were cut from the photoetch straps provided in the kit.

Done!

Wow, you guys are awesome!! Two more completions! I'm very impressed!

David,
Your A-10 looks great! It's even more impressive that you were able to make such a tiny scale look awesome. No Tank Hunting campaign would be complete without one.

Tim,
The Volkssturm bicycle looks awesome! The PE work alone just knocks my socks off! I love the background and photo effects you added to it.

Thanks guys!
