Tamiya, 3T Cgo Trk (Opel Blitz), 1/35
Well, cab is all sealed up! Ain't no accessing that interior again.
Can't say the assembly was fun...I guess the jury is still out with me on this "fall together" Tamiya kit.
The cab assembly was not a fun project; I found it tedious and unnerving...panel lines needing straightening and adjusting...just plain need to pay attention to what's going on here when assembling the cab or the results could look a little off in the end.
Nice grill detail with open slats but, again, no engine compartment interior and no radiator for the open grill! A real oversight by Tamiya here! I hijacked a radiator from an old Italeri Blitz from my stash and detailed it with an overflow tube made from solder and lead foil retaining clips. Nothing fancy, but will provide something realistic for the opening.
Nice job on the Rad8, Sal! Wish I could claim a "Job Complete"
I'm worrying about our deadline at my snail's pace
Also, diggin' that 35(t), Linus...want to build me one of those, also. I'm just a plain sucker for those rivets!
Great work all around guys...keep the pics coming.

Hi guys, I'm an Aeroscale man, but I do play around with the ground forces every now and then. Actually I am buidling a Polish '39 Renault FT in 1:72 right now. I've started few days ago, I would have registered for this Armorama campaign, but I only stumbled across it now. Is it too late to sign up? I'm afraid I've put few hours of work into the Reanult already. I've got the hull and turret assembled so far, no paint though.

Hello Shrimpman!
Welcome to Armorama. Sorry, our campaign has been somewhat quiet as of late, possibly the spring weather has everyone occupied at the moment. Poland 1939 is open from 01 Dec 2016 thru 01 Jul 2017 so you are eligible to enlist even though you started your project recently, just send us a pic of your start and we all would love to see your progress pics as you go along. Paul (Hudson29) is the campaign leader and has final say of course, but I hate to have your request go unanswered as we have not heard from Paul for some time. I do hope he is Okay, has anyone heard from him? He has been very responsive to the groups progress throughout the build till now. I, personally look forward to your build and again extend a hearty welcome. Just a note: the build is open to aero also, not just land.

Alvaro, I have the Tristar kit in stash and was considering using it for the Spanish Civil War Campaign that Paul mentioned running next. I look forward to your take on the Dragon kit. For some reason I've always liked this little sucker!

Thanks for the reply. I would not mind if I don't qualify, my works are not very good anyway, I'm still learning the basics. I don;t even know if I will be able to finish by the time the campaign ends, but there is nothing to lose by trying
Here's my work in progress so far (very little done really, the model is about 15 pieces altogether, very easy to assemble and with enough detail to keep my noob hands occupied).
It is Renault FT-17 in 1:72 scale by First To Fight.
If I knew you were accepting planes I would have joined couples of months ago with my Airfix Do17Z in KG3 Sept'39 markings. It was a very satisfying build.

Sorry for another post - I got another idea - I can start another tank for the Polish campaign just in case: PzIID, same scale, same manufacturer. I have just finished building another model, so can start PzII now. I can keep building the Renault FT at work during lunchtime and PzII at home after work, whetever is finished first would be my entry for the campaign.

Richard, I was surprised with the tracks, was so easy to do, more easy than mi Pz. III ones!.
The kit need extremely dry fit test, specially in the transmission cover area with the superstructure area. Well., dying and learning.....
The other parts it's a snap job.
Regards from the south (cold now)

Hey Shrimpman,
I'm looking forward to your builds. I did a 1/72 French R-35 in Polish markings for this campaign by the same manufacturer. My one fault with their kit was the lack of detail on the outside of the tracks. Do your kits have details molded on the tracks? I wound up putting mine in a small diorama and covering the smooth tracks with grass and mud. These tanks are pretty small, especially in this scale. My R-35 was about as long as my thumb. Anyway, keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The tracks on my tanks are indeed flat and featureless. In case of Renault FT-17 it is ok, as they are actually supposed to be flat, but PzIID tracks are not accurate by any means. It is certainly the weakest spot of the model. I have built PzIA by First to Fight some time ago, I drilled the holes in the tracks manually, it did not turns out so well, but still looked much better than flat pieces.

Agreed, Shrimpman!
Sweet looking Dornier and an exceptional job masking that massive "green house" canopy! Your Dornier would have been a nice campaign entry, as I believe we have only one aero entry so far as I can remember, with a Polish PZL P-11C in 1/72 from Jaeger8.
I haven't done planes since I was a teenager in high school ...tho, I have (2) in the stash pile:
A ProModeler SB2C-4 Helldiver I traded an ol' Tamiya Lancaster DamBuster with an Army buddy some twenty years ago - and a recently acquired Tamiya F4U-1D Corsair w/moto tug. Maybe soon I'll get up the nerve to give one of them a try!

Plane models are sure a lot of fun. It is always nice to do something else for a change. I did not mask the canopy at all. I'm a strict brush painter, so I simply go along the frames with acrylics on a thin brush, then wait a few minutes and clean the glass with a sharp wooden stick (firm enough to easily take the paint off, not hard anough to scratch the transparent part). It took a little practice to get the right timing, because if I go in too early I smear the paint all over the window or form a tiny ridge of paint on the frame, if I wait too long I get uneven, chipped line. But after all it probably takes much less time than masking for spraying.
Anyway, here's some progress on the FT-17. I've picked up the pace a liitle, not much time left.

Wow! Pawel
You're rockin' some serious brass there!
Can't wait to see how it all comes together with that first coat of paint...looking good.

Richard is correct in all regards here. Welcome Shrimpman with your started FT-17. At this stage of the build I do not see it as a problem.
I have been out of modeling for a few weeks do to a number of things going on. Sorry for the silence! BTW, you can always PM me and a note will get through to me by email.
I have not even STARTED my own project for Poland 1939 so it is high time to get moving. More later, work beckons!

To One and All,
I will be working on the Tamiya 1/35 Pzkpfw. II Polish Campaign model. I have spent one afternoon on it and I have the suspension done and I am starting on the upper hull. Below is my 'sprueshot' of the kit.
Thanks,
Stephen

Paul,
As for the magic tracks, I finished assembling the tracks for each side I forgot to installed them on the tank before the glue cured. They would not bend enough to look natural around the sprockets, rollers and idlers no matter how much I tried. Lesson learned.
Marcus
In my VERY limited experience with the link/link plastic tracks using the Testors liquid cement you need to time the assembly. 20 minutes after gluing proved a bit too long, the tracks had a hard time bending realistically. The next trial was only ten minutes and the tracks kept falling apart. Mebbee fifteen might be the magic number?

Richard - I can hardly take my eyes off the interior of your Blitz. The seat fabric looks like butts bounced along on it, the 98k looks like it was just taken off a shoulder and your dash looks like it has seen a lot of miles. I could go on and on, great work!

Linus - great work on your little 38(t). I like your grey paint, it is dark enough to look like the color photos of these tanks and contrasts well with the white crosses. The weathering looks right.

Jan - I sure understand about life getting in the way of model projects. I'm glad to see that you are making progress with a not so easy build.
Posted: Monday, May 15, 2017 - 10:58 PM UTC
Alvaro - Those tiny tracks are looking great! What glue are you using?
