Huge! & hugely fascinating – will there be a boot? Painting/weathering all that concrete will be quite a challenge, I’ll be interested to see how you tackle it

No u boot ,
Painting wont be a problem it is not my first bunker.
The only problem i have is ....
The bunker was painted in camouflage colors, but i do not know wich colors the Germans used .
Hard to tell from black and white pictures
So it might be just concrete color and weathered.

I believe green should be plausible...Check out the "then and now" pics of Keroman bunkers here:

I can see definitely blotches of camouflage paint, was the complete bunker painted in one overall color (oker/ yellow /) with patches of Green or other ? or patches over the bare concrete.
And what do you think about the darker upper parts wet because of rain ?
Any input on what you guys think on the Paint colors used
are appreciated.
Thanks
Maarten

I would go with strips of green and black over the bare concrete. The paint has been aging for about 70 years and is very faded. I really doubt they would have painted the whole thing ocher.

In fact, it looks like the faded color patches we can see in contemporary pics are the remains of camo nets, not painted concrete...Just check out this view :

You can notice the torn net in the left background...

I think the same (now) that the colors patches and stripes were painted on the bare concrete.

Yes i know of the nets there there to protect the public from small pieces of concrete falling off .....so the tour guide told.
But the bunker was definitely camouflaged with paint at some point in the war..

Very interesting research – I’m no expert so can only offer a couple of amateur observations. One is that the most or all of the ochre stains are likely to be the corroded rebar leeching out rust.
The other involves imagining how would you try disguising this massive structure from aerial and/or naval attack? Either way common sense suggests giant “dazzle”-camo shapes breaking up the actual outlines with contrasting shadow-coloured areas (as used spectacularly on WW1 & some WW2 warships including the Bismark) but there doesn’t seem to be any sign of that. I’m not sure how the relatively small abstract patterns in the Keroman II pictures would fool any bomb-/gun-aimer...quite the opposite...so perhaps it’s hard-edged evidence that the Todt Camouflage Dept had already been infiltrated by the Resistance
