Peter, Gazza and Mark, thank you for the compliments!

First Sergeant, that‘s a wicked-looking Sturmovik - very cool.

I‘m calling my T-34 done. I have no idea why the 76mm barrel in the first and last pictures turned out so dark, because in reality it isn‘t....I must be casting shadows. Anyway:

Gaz, thanks a lot for a great campaign, and thanks to everyone who participated!

Jerry,
Great job on your T-34! I really love the weathering! What did you use to give it that faded/dusty look? She's really an eye catcher.

Congratulations on completing it!

First Sergeant - Excellent work on the Sturmovik. The white finish is great.

Jerry, the T34 is splendid. Patience paid off.

I'm still chugging to the finish line. Primary build is now complete, but the etch took some time to fit....

Need to lay some paint on now. Some progress pics:

Gaz and Peter, thanks a lot!

Peter, your Marder is coming along very nicely - I like the additional detailing and stowage. That etch does look a bit tricky.

To dust up the T-34, I was going for a multi-layered effect to increase depth. I first covered the base coat with chipping fluid and then I airbrushed on a couple shades of thinned dust-colored paint which I then mostly removed with a brush moistened with water - a type of dust wash.

Then I used oils, first dark brown for a pin wash, then three dusty shades (including light grey for an urban environment) to build up the effect, especially in nooks and crannies, and then another dark brown shade mixed with dark earth-colored pigment for a bit of a mud effect on the running gear and lower hull (not to mention a greasy black for the diesel exhaust stains).

Finally, I dusted on some pigments (a blend of light earth, dust and light grey tones, plus black for the exhaust), fixed them with thinner and after it dried, I removed some with a sponge, mainly on vertical surfaces.

Good luck to all still rushing towards the finish line!

Peter,
That looks great so far. Do you need another week?

Jerry,
Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'm going to have to give that a go.

Just to show I'm not meandering... or malingering. Base coats down, a little weathering and decals on. The kit comes with insignia for the 16th Motorised Infantry Div which were at Stalingrad, but the photos I have do not show these applied to the vehicles ( what you can see as much of them ended up under snow after being knocked out/captured ...)

Vehicle colour is lighter in the pics than it really is...

Sorry Jerry, missed your reply earlier.

Yes the etch was tricky. The mesh is all separate to the frame, there are small angle parts and bolt heads to add. If I was doing a later version I could have just replaced it with plastic card armour as the mesh was replaced later...

a Tad Tardy, but pics in the gallery. Not quite finished, stowage etc to go and will finish the weathering on the tracks when I add to a base.

Added a 'wood' floor from plastic strip. The kit comes with no floor, just open torsion bars and little else. Based on pics, there must be something for crew members to stand on - or they were very tall soldiers that crewed these.

Thanks for Hosting the Campaign Gaz, and your patience with me.

Good work on the Marder, Peter

I need to build some more early war stuff; the earliest piece I've built lately was from Stalingrad and before that a Marder III from the MTO.

The PE frame on the back would test my patience, though.

Thanks for the campaign, Gaz, and to all who participated. There have been several strong finishers.

Stellar job, Peter! Congratulations!

Weird that it has no floor. I hope my Tamiya one has a floor.

Thanks Guys. Would have been finished earlier, and completed, if not for the wife's accident. She's getting better and can drive herself, so a little more time to finish this properly in coming weeks.

Peter, magnificent work. And again, that‘s a very clean installation of that difficult PE!

Thanks a lot for the campaign and the ribbon, Gaz, and thanks to all who participated.

One more thing, Gaz, didn‘t you say something a while ago about an upcoming Tank Hunters campaign? I have a SU-100 waiting in the stash.......
