Some work on the concrete base. Paint, wash, and dust.



Seems the lighting washes out the gray with the gunmetal.

I have some "blue foam" board and some desert dust and desert "ground cover." I believe I'll have the time to do a little dio for this gun (as an emplacement). We'll see. Maybe add an Italian truck to it, if I can find a decent one.

I'm also not sure how much I like the color of the gunmetal I used. I may have to fall back to one of the other brands I've used in the past - darken it up some.

Mike, I see what you mean about the metallic being 'light'. Have you used the new Tamiya "Dark Iron"? That, a dark brown wash and a light metallic pigment burnishing is my favorite combination lately.
What else do you use?

It's time for me to join with a 8,8 cm. Flak 37.

Besides Tamiya's kit I'll use Eduard's PE gun shield.

Will build a Flak belonging to 1st(Heavy) Battery/the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Detachment of the Armoured Brigade/Bulgarian Royal Army 1944-45.

My plans are to build also a Trumpeter Sd.Kfz.7 to tow the Flak:

Fully agree with you, Peter!

After some hours of flash cleaning, parts trimming, ejection marks filling(although I found some unattended ones after looking at the pictures I've taken) and immense PE fun, I have completed the construction of my Acht-Acht:





I might add a bit more PE to the bogeys/trailers of the gun.

Next will be cleaning(need to get rid of those fingerprints on the gun shield), priming and painting,

Any word on whether or not this one is going to be extended. I think I might pushing it to finish by October 1st.

I've started on the lower hull. There are two different options for idler wheels. One set looks like 70s mag wheels like the rest of the roadwheels. Another set looks to be from a possible early version. I went with the set that more closely matched the road wheels.



I mounted the arms onto the lower hull; but left the wheels off for now. I'll mask the ends off when I start painting.

If someone knows the difference between the two types of idler wheels let me know.

Hi all.
I'm afraid I will not be able to finish this campaign, due to serious health problems. Hospitalization and some upcoming surgery the coming weeks, will hold me away from the workbench for the coming months.

Richard. The chassis is based on the GM series of tracked vehicles. Some older ones were made by MTZ and this may be the reason for the two different types of idler, else it may be a remnant of another vehicle model on the same chassis. Not sure what the two in the kit are, but most pictures show the 4 spoke with holes in the spoke and between the spokes...

I've used Tamiya's gunmetal and Ammo's GM. Tamiya's is good for brushing smaller details (otherwise it needs to be thinned for the AB). Ammo's is great for the AB (I've not brushed with it yet).

I reshot the barrel assembly with Ammo's yesterday and I am quite pleased with the "base" color - I'll dry brush some of the AK Extreme later today (I hope) and post up a "new and improved" gun barrel.

I knew someone would offer up a suggestion for an improvement: Thank you! (a pleasurable thing about this site)

Here is walkaround of the Krug in St.Peterburg's Artillery Museum-it has the lower part(T-55 type) idler wheels:

I guess the upper type of idler wheels is the early one, while the lower (star-shell) type are the late ones: in the late 1980's my country bought a battery of Akatsiyas for evaluation purposes.One of them is on display at the NMMH/Sofia and it has the same star-shell type idler wheels:

Here's the lower hull of the Krug / SA-4 with all the roadwheels, driver sprockets and idlerwheels dry-fitted. I haven't put the return rollers on yet. I'll wait until after they've been painted.
