Update on British Paras vs German Flakpanzer Ostwind
Posts will come fast and furious with 2 weeks to go!!!

Adding the broken tracks to the Ostwind. Curiously, this was something omitted on Mr. Paine's original diorama....oops!

Replacing the atrocious vinyl tracks was totally worth it. They look 100% better. The drive sprocket did need extensive reshaping to fit.

Paper mock up to get the layout correct on the diorama. I'll use the templates to make the demolished buildings.

Thanks for watching. Good luck finishing your entries everyone. 2 weeks to go.....Crunch Time!!!!

Well, I ran into a bit of a problem seem to have lost the window for the right rear. I have spent most of my free time over the last couple weeks looking for it and just Today found one left over from another build! I may not finish in time but will keep at it and posting.

Here is some of what I have got done.

Cheers Rob.

Richard, thank you sir.
Ezra, I'm glad you like it.
Rob, I feel your frustration. I'm glad you found a replacement window for your P-61. Good luck on the finish.
Chuck, thanks a million Brother.

With a week to go, it's white knuckle time. Good luck to all finishing their projects. Bill

Update on British Paras vs German Flakpanzer Ostwind.

I made a foam core board base, and then added thick cardboard sidewalks. The ruins were also made out of foam core board. The insides of windows and doors were covered with paper strips. Also, the broken edges of the buildings were layered with putty.

I textured the buildings' exteriors with putty, and added shell/small caliber impact damage. The cobblestone street is embossed colored paper.

Hopefully I'm still on track to finish by the deadline. Good luck to everyone on finishing their projects. Bill

Looking good guys.

I'm pushing it for the finish line, but still swinging. Some 'as it stands pics' on the Tamiya Horch:

I was re-soldering a break in the brass wire bench seat frames when I accidentally dropped the soldering iron onto the model when putting the iron in its coil holder - melted the top panel as it dangled from my hand and melted one of the rear door stops as it rolled off. Repairs have set me back a bit, but it could have been a lot worse.

Found some old Airfix aircraft parts from 30 odd years ago (that long since I built one) that donated a round rear light (no idea what it was originally), a ribbed strut that when trimmed down was perfect for the distance indicator light when glued on a piece of styrene and an oleo strut that will do nicely for the Bosch Headlight support when I get to that - but everything else is hand made.

Anyway, have to get back to it or it won't be done for sure....

This is the last picture I took showing all the turret greeblies. I now have these all painted up and the model is almost complete!

This is a mixture of Milliput bedrolls and kitbags plus I snagged a few items from an Academy tank accessory kit to fill the basket that just squeaked in with a copyright date of 1996! Also visible are 2 tissue paper rolls that will be headrests and my scratch-built track links to which I have since added the guide horns. Tonight I will put it all together and come hell-or-high-water tomorrow is photography day. That gives me 2 days lee-way "just in case"!

FINAL REVEAL of my British Paras vs German Flakpanzer Ostwind.

I had a wonderful time participating in this fun campaign. I enjoyed viewing the other entrants' builds. Lastly, my deepest gratitude to Mr, Shepherd Paine for sparking the love of this great hobby in a small boy......me.

So here it is, an M60A1 of 3rd Infantry Division, somewhere in Germany in the 1970's!

Built using 1970 Tamiya M60A1 kit, 1970 Tamiya US Tank crew (with Tamiya German infantry heads!) and a few accessories from 1996!

I really enjoyed making it and I hope you like the end result. See you in the next campaign!

@ Nick & Lap; You made it! Well done!

@ Nick; I am so wanting to do that camouflage pattern now. I have been looking at it on a number of occasions now. What colours did you use?

@ Lap; great work. Would have loved to see bigger pictures to pour over.

I agree I think it could win a 'cutest colors' tank contest haha! I will do my best to recall the paints used as they were all custom mixes (enamels).

The sand brown was a mix of Model Masters Armor Sand FS 30277 and Humbrol matt white.

The brown was MM Italian Dark Brown 2111 and white.

The green was a MM Dark Green FS 34077, Testors OD Olive, Humbrol 94 and white!

Black was toned down with a touch of brown.

PS I don't know if anyone is frantically trying to finish or post, but I would argue they have one more day to post since the campaign was listed as running to 8/1.

Wow! A greater dropout rate than basic training!

Great finishers though so a very enjoyable campaign!
