Hi all,
Manage to spend a few hours today trying out positions for the 'crew'. It's a bit rough and ready at the moment as I've had to do some surgery which will require filling, blending and cleaning up (see images below).
Need to finish painting the driver so that I can fix the front plates and add stowage to the front deck, then finish the rest of the crew before going back to the water and scenery.
Cheers, ,
G

The suitably miserable looking squaddies look great! After a day of"go here,go there" and "hurry up and wait" it does this to the best of men.

Hi Jerry,
They do look a miserable lot, , though I can't take credit for it being intentional, .
Having said that, I imagine the ride on a Carrier was pretty 'springy', the few bits of footage I've seen seem to show them lurching around somewhat, so it probably would be a bit of a miserable ride, .

Hi all,
Driver more-or-less painted, so now I can fix the front plates and add further stowage (see images below).
I'm struggling to get the stowage to sit right, especially 'softer' items such as haversacks, . Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make such items sit better? I had contemplated making putty ones, but I don't have that sort of skill?
All suggestions appreciated, .

I have started to make my own backpacks and other soft packs as well because it is way easier to get them to conform. You should give it a try using regular modeling clay first to practice. Not as hard as you might think. If I can do it I'm sure you can as well.
Having said that you may also try sanding flat the part of the pack you want to make contact with the vehicle. Then put a thin layer of putty on that flat surface and trim it to fit all around to blend it in. When it has gotten a bit firmed up, press it onto the vehicle. You may have to trim again but that should do the trick ?

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the feedback on the packs, I did have a go with some two-part putty, but not great, . However, because they were the right size and shape, and fitted better, I decided to use them, but covered them with a tarp, my thoughts being the crew would want to keep their kit as dry as possible when not carried on their backs, .
However, I will give it another go as I think it's always hard to make the plastic kit packs and pouches fit properly in most cases.

Hi all,
Decided to take a break from the Carrier and crew and try sculpting a dead tree stump in the back corner of the scene.
It's made from a piece of twig and two-part putty and has been given an undercoat to unify the two (see images below).

This shows the advantages of making your own. You can hang them anywhere and they will conform. This was before painting the high and lowlights.

Tree stump’s OK but maybe fill some of the gaps between the roots a bit more, looks like an all-in octopusses fight….octopii ? Whatever, at this super close-up range (which takes no prisoners) it all looks amazing, details off-scale & the figures/poses look ideal

Outstanding G , very cool ground and water elements and the carrier rocks !! Tim's got a point about the Octopus's Garden but I'm sure you're going to dress it up with foliage etc . after all it's still in progress .
I'm impressed man , every new step forward is working out way cool !!

You are making great progress, mate! The driver has a nasty smirk on his face, as if he likes to make the squaddies feel miserable...
As for the tree, it could be me, but there seem to be too many roots ? Ofcourse it depends on the type of tree you try to represent. Do you have an example that you used?

Hi Jerry,
Excellent looking Carrier, and the homemade packs are excellent, I'll have to give it a go.
Thanks for sharing, and cheers, ,

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the positive feedback, and the constructive criticism about the tree roots...you're not the only one to mention it, so I will be trying to amend, .

Hi Cheyenne,
Thank you for the kind feedback, I had to laugh at the Octopus' Garden comment...loved that song as a wee kid, .
Between yourself, Tim and Erwin, I've been convinced that the squidly-tree needs a few tentacles shaving off, .

Hi Erwin,
Thank you for the positive feedback.
I have tried looking to see if I could find a 'get out of gaol free' picture for my tree roots but, alas, only in fairy stories could I find them, ...thus far, .
