A tastefully well done diorama.

I think it is a great, well done, artistic diorama. Is the subject controversial? Maybe. That is for each individual to decide. If they are offended by such subject matter, they don't have to view it. But, it is history and therefore has earned its right to be told and remembered.

I think it makes a very positive statement for this piece of work to be featured here and I am very glad that you Jim, have decided to host it.

very thought provoking and makes us stop and think..

I'd like to relate a little story here that is relevant to how history is sometimes seen.

a few years ago my brother in law took his family to the Holocaust Musuem in Washington D.C. his daughter then about 15 was talking about the trip and said.. and I quote here..

" I don't know why they need a musuem about it. Its over with so why can't people just let it go and forget about it."

after she said this everyone around just kinda kept silent so I took it upon myself to educate her... and replied that "we remember so that maybe it will not be allowed to happen again". ... at the time the answer didn't really sink in..

I have been to the Holocaust musuem in D.C. and it is not as kind to eye as this diorama.

so everyone who is critical of the "tastefullness" of such a diorama I can only say..... remember...........

Very well done, tasteful is it could be taking into account the subject matter. History frozen in time.

Keith has chosen one of the most emotive subjects of WW2, and produced a tasteful yet thought provoking diorama around it - I hope he acheives his aim and it goes to a good museum.

Out standing work we must always remember.
A reporter once said to my father "its sixty years ago its along time " to which my father replied "To me it was yesterday " and every service man that served did there bit to stop the very thing that this diorama depicts.

I think it's excellent.

I think too, that the use of the word "controversial" is out of place when the subject depicts facts. It's not a-historical and it forces others to think and to remember....Very well done.

I am very impressed by the way such a sensitive subject is handled. Realistic without being a carricature of itself. Hat off for such a feat.....

We don't need to see lots of blood to remember the horrors of war and other atrocities committed!

Keith Forsyth (docdios) masterly handled this situation and was able to make a wonderful diorama, that could look almost innocent if we didn't know the end result of that trip!!!!

May Keith keep his wonderful works and that this diorama can be placed in a place for all to see!!

This is a very well done diorama. Everything about it's construction is wonderful.

The history of the Holocaust article that went with it was extremely educational as well. I learned some things about what was going on in Germany before WWII that I never knew before. Thanks for that.

This is one of the subjects in human history that shoul'dn't be forgotten, how painfull it may be.
Keith, you did an outstanding job on this dio, and I mean that in two different ways:

1. The true craftsmansship, with which you made this beautifull diorama.

2. The atmosphere captured in the dio, one can allmost feel, and touch the immense pain and sorrow these people are suffering.

This is truly one of the best executed dioramas I have seen.

I did a similar "subject matter" piece which was reviewed elsewhere on this forum (Warsaw Uprising- "The Sewer"). While most liked the work and felt comfortable with the subject matter, there were a few who were a bit vocal in depicting anything relating to the persecution of the Jews. I feel to a great extent it is impossible to ignore what they went through.... it was a compelling reason for the war, and the ultimate justification of the overthrow of Hitler's Nazi regime.

I'm pleased to see this on display again. This is an outstanding dio, covering a historical event of such importance that it should never be forgotten nor ever allowed to happen again.

Unfrtunately, there has been mass murder and genocide since, in other countries by other dictators and despots.

Masterfully executed it shows how the trick of resettlement was implimented by a truely evil regime, what's harder to protray is the collusion often found in the occupied countries by those taken in by Nazi propaganda.

The seeds of this evil were sown much earlier in German East Africa, where theories of inferior races were being tested and implimented, compounded by support from a large range of 'academics' who by and large were highly thought of at the time. Just goes to show, be very careful who you listen to and believe, the justification for such horrors is often portrayed in the most logical of terms.

A wonderful masterpiece full of detail but done tactfully ,well done it's good to see something that gets overlooked due to the nature of the subject content but like Keith has shown if it's done right you can still tell a story but without intentionally upsetting anyone
