Would be an interesting mix....Sherman Crab from the 79th, Stuart, Dingo, M3 scout car and Jeep from the 7th Armoured and Universal Carrier from the 3rd Canadian infantry.

Could be a possible scenario

Thought I'd put a few pics up to show progress. The frustrating thing about macro is once you finish a figure and take pics you see bits that need touching up as my eyesights obviously not what it was! . Critiques or criticism more than welcome.

They've not been weathered yet and now I've found some of them need a bit of a paint touch up but thought I'd put them up anyway.

Hi Karl,
Good progress mate.My 4 figures are also almost done, they just need some touching up and their weapons painted etc.Just a few quick questions ...1)Which figure and heads have you used?2)In which type of setting will they be placed in?
Cheers,Shay

Karl,
Obviously you've sorted out the macro then What are you using for paint? it's looking a much better shade than I'm getting with Humbrol 26/29.

Very nice! How many figures are you going to be doing in total? A whole Division!? Any vehicles to show us yet mate?

Karl:
Re. The Axis info offer: Its not any specific thing, I just want to invest in some kind of Axis bible if you know what I mean, so I can keep referring to it. I'll keep pestering and searching, if I come across anything I'll let all know.

PS. Oh, and cheers for the Chateau pic, only discovered it the other day!

Hi chaps! I've used the Tamiya ones for these and raided my abbatoir for some different arms to vary them a bit. The heads are a bit of a mixture. I've used Hornet, Resicast and Ultracast heads as the tamiya ones were all pinheads :-) . Craig, I've mixed my own paint. I always use tamiya paint despite the slagging off it gets. Each to their own I suppose but I find it works. I used XF-52 (flat earth) and added some XF-51 (khaki drab) with a dash of XF-49 (khaki) to lighten it. Not very scientific but I just messed about with the colours until I was happy then filled a pot. I always thin it down with water so it's not all gloopy when I use it plus it dries quicker. My philosophy is if it's water based then why not use water to thin it? Plus if its really diluted its great for multi layer washes.

Hehe...thanks Matt. I've got 16 finished and another 6 I'm working on. I'm looking at a full platoon :-) plus a sniper team checking out their handiwork. I may even invest in a Vickers team as I like the figures and I'm sure I could accomodate them. I've finished one Sherman but I've lost one of the rear light guards so I may have to liberate one off one of my American ones from the stash. (Ho hum...). I think once I've finished all my British I suppose I ought to do my German POW's. I have a nasty feeling that this dio is going to be the same size as the Berlin dio which sadly I took to pieces. I've been having a dig about and found all sorts of bits just lurking in the magic cupboard so the Mr Muscles coming out next week!

Matt, while I remember! A brilliant book for you which I know you'll appreciate! 6 June 1944:Soldiers in Normandy...ISBN 9 782908 182323. It's one of the Histoire & Collections ones. I can't reccomend this highly enough. A whole section on British, American airborne forces and all the uniform pics are in colour. Usual format. Original items photographed today. A whole section on 12th SS with Divisional breakdown so that should be useful. This is definitely a uniform painting book due to the clarity of the pics. I've had mine for years so I don't know if it's still in print but if you can get hold of it it's a definite Normandy bible!

First Sherman completed! Just needs weathering now. I'm going to set the dio in a sunken lane so I think I'll weather everything when its done. Such a relief to be building British subjects for a change instead of German after German I'm going to have to see if Hornet do sad faces for all my German POW's :-) !

Another Sherman to finish off, then maybe a Churchill from the Irish Guards on the other side of the road. Hmm but then I've got a couple of Bren carriers and a Dingo in the stash I'd like to include. I suppose I could go for a traffic jam as is typically British :-)

Nice Sherman! Sounds like another big diorama to me!

I'm just about to finish my M3 scout car. Hope to do this tommorow evening. Of course I'll post pics then.

I've also painted my Sherman in it's base colour. Now the details and of course weathering.

I'm trying to include the British vehicles I already had in stash in my diorama. I think this will be the final list:

- Sherman Crab
- M3A1 Stuart
- Daimler Dingo
- Universal Carrier
- M3 Scout Car
- Jeep

Can't use more than that because the diorama isn't big enough for more lol.

I also already got some figures (Tamiya, Dragon, Ultracast) but I'll need some more.

Thanks Martin! I know what you mean about figures. I think I definitely need more! Been doing a few Jerries tonight for a change while I think of more British stuff to put in. This is going to be another big one...LOL

Hehe ok. Well my challenge is to make use of the things I've got already (except for the figures then) on a rather small diorama because I lack space and time for real large ones.

Hoorah! Gun Truck very kindly sorted out the campaign ribbon for me as I had no idea what I was doing. (A common complaint that has plagued me all my life :-) ). Now everyone can see what they're getting at the end of the build.

Hi all,

You can now watch my progress in this thread:

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/81075&page=1

Some pics already included :-)

Got a question as well. Seems like the British troops installed some sort of stowage box on M3A1 Stuarts next to the drivers' position on the fender. Does anyone has more information about that stowage box?

I have just joined this fine campaign - i plan on doing Tammys old Churchill Croc with some figures around it in a french villagesetting.

I found the Croc very cheep at 16$ and really couldn“t resist the temptation even if its a old dog.

I have begun the construction of the fuel trailer and the lower hull, so far i have encountered a lot of cleanup, filling and sanding... , but thats what modeling is all about :-)

So far i plan on adding new grabhandles, weldseam around the turret top and inside detailing on the commanders hatch.

Otherwise the overall look is ok considering the kits age - copyrighted in “77 and im sure ist gonna look like a croc

Hi Jan

I know what you mean , I am building the standard Churchill and had a few issues with the fit of the turret roof , but for such an old kit it looks great once built

Finished my sniper team but haven't decided yet if they look right. May have to give them a few tweaks. The ghillie suits look okay but I'm undecided. Working on a couple of German mortar positions at the mo to fill in a field where the sniper team is inspecting their handiwork. I'm thinking of a dead crew after being picked off by the snipers at a good distance and they've just caught up with the armoured column.I've got a mental picture of what i want but odds are it will change . Finished the Bren carriers but need to get a new Dingo as the one I was going to Mr Muscle is FUBAR but such is life! I suppose I could have it off road having hit a mine? I dunno it'll probably change again. I like to surprise myself :-) :-) :-)

Hi guys, well I've just enlisted for my first campaign and I think it's going to be one that I'll really enjoy.

My build is going to be a fairly simple one using a combo of Tamiya's 1/48 Cromwell Mk.IV and British infantry set in a small dio. I'll be using my copy of 'British Armour in Normandy' as a reference.

Cheers

Mojimbo if you're doing the Tamiya Bren carrier get rid of the Brens and use the Italeri ones from the weapons pack. I've just built two and the Tamiya ones look like .50 cals! The Italeri ones are really nice and you can still drill the barrels out with some patience and some swearing :-) . Plus the Italeri weapons pack is dead cheap and you'll have a pile of bits for other projects.

roger that karl! :-)

in fact i do have the italeri 'weapons and accessories' kit and the weapons looked pretty good, i might use a couple of stens and brens on it...

Holy Kaboo!!! I've reached a standstill on my Guardsmen! I need to get some more insignia from Archers as I've run out! I suppose I'll have to build Germans for a few days
