Just thought I'd see how everyone's getting along with their projects as it's been quiet for a bit. I've reached a bit of a break as I'm waiting for a couple of of boxes of the MB POW's. Once I've got them and built them I'm ready for the groundwork. Mind you having said that I was bored today waiting for my kits so I've managed to modify the DML Bren crew to a PIAT crew. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet but they're almost finished :-) . Just out of curiosity is this sea foam stuff any good? I've read that it's a good bit of kit but expensive. Anyone got any thoughts?

I've got a link somewhere onmy PC for a way to do some sea foam that comes out really sweet. Let me see if I can find it for you.

Nice one! Thanks Steve! There's a florist near where I live so hopefully they'll have some in. I have to admit I'll feel a bit daft asking for it but hey...it's modelling :-)

Been working on the MB German POW's the last couple of days. They're bloody good! very impressed.Easily modified and they actually look quite sad :-) . I've got a Kubelwagen in the post (e-bay job) to stick in a ditch with some dead Jerries. It's all coming together now. .Just need to get some new wood for the base and it's all systems go!

Hi Kevin and greeting all,

Like your snipers, very nice from what I could see. Sounds like there is a lot of progress being made.

I better get on and get my base sorted out.

Looks like there will be some great kits is this one.

Cheers all

Thought I'd put a few pics up to show progress. The frustrating thing about macro is once you finish a figure and take pics you see bits that need touching up as my eyesights obviously not what it was! . Critiques or criticism more than welcome.

They've not been weathered yet and now I've found some of them need a bit of a paint touch up but thought I'd put them up anyway.

Karl, they look very good indeed! Can I ask about the shoulder insignia? Did you paint these or are they decals? If decals, where did you find them?

Here are some progress pics of my Churchill for the Normandy campaign.
It is by no means complete as yet ,I still need to add some detail to the comanders hatch and of course the side escape hatch ( still working on a figure climbing out ) plus a few touch ups here and there.

Now I can start on the dio groundwork

Ian

Ian, that looks great. I'm building a Churchill for my dio and ill have the hatches open. Can I ask you a couple of questions?
Firstly, what mix of pain did you use for the green of the tank?
Secondly, did you scratch the interior? If so, what references did you use (and can I nick 'em? ) If not, which kit did you use?

Hi Sean

Thanks very much

I dont have an airbrush so my Churchill is painted from a spray can which is Humbrol light olive drab
I then use a darker green filter to tone down and deepen the green and let it settle in the recess and corners ( almost like a post shading).
I then mix a sand/yellow filter to fade the paint and give it a slightly "warmer" colour on the horizontal surfaces.

The interior is scratchbuilt so is not exactly 100% accurate , more of a representation :-) but the layout is correct its just the smaller details that I used a little artistic licence.

For reference I used internet refernce a good place to start is

http://www.mapleleafup.org/vehicles/cac/churchill2.html and

http://www.tanxheaven.com/referencepictures.htm#allied

But a Google or Yahoo search will also give some great results

That's a great finish without an airbrush - I wouldn't have guessed.

Thanks for the links - I don't need a 100% accurate interior - like you a representation will do.

Thanks again

Hi Sean, thanks! The insignia are from Archers. My hand is not steady enough to paint that small plus my eyesight is not what it was :-) so I've taken the easy option. I'd highly reccomend these as they are superb.

Hi guys, its not to late for me to join is it?

I've got a part started Revell 1/72 Cromwell and a completed diorama base for it to go on.

I decided last night as I was battling the AIrfix TSR2 that I needn't to build some armour and save my sanity!

Here is a picture of the part completed figures from a while back, they're all done now, I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight

OK, here's my completed base (Milicast)

Here's a close-up of 3 of the crew having a brew and a fag. Middle figure is Milicast, outside ones are AB Figures

I simply adore this guy - AB Figures again.

Here's the Cromwell after a coat of primer. I finished the main construction last night - a very enjoyable kit to build, only took 3 leisurely evenings

Just given her a coat of Tamiya Olive Green out of a spray can. Could probly do with another coat to catch a couple of bits I didn't quite cover properly.

Thanks for looking.

Nice looking job on the Churchill Pilgrim. Most impressive, the straps on the helmets are very cool and your interior looks great.

Cheers

Well its time to start the scenery for me at last! Finished a Kubelwagen (Tamiyas new one. Lovely little kit) to stick in a ditch, figures are done. 40 odd British and 20 odd sad looking German POW's. The Masterbox POW set came out quite nice. Bit of trimming on pockets for 1944 herringbone peas pattern SS cam and they look okay. I think I may have over built on vehicles (2 Shermans, 2 Bren carriers, 2 Churchills and a Dingo. Oh and I got an M3 half track a couple of days ago) as i don't think they'll all fit but I suppose i could use them for something else...LOL

Hi everybody,
I really enjoy your posts in this thread and really like what I see. I have to admit I am not a dio builder usually, but I hope you like my entry anhow :

It's more of a tank display but this campaign inspired me to choose THIS Sherman from my stash.
BTW, will we have a folder to upload our pics anytime soon ?

Finished my Cromwell. Weathering is maybe a little heavy, was trying to go for that "caked in dust" Normandy look. I was also experimenting with different backgrounds for the photo, hence the weird variation in colours & brightness

The model is superb, one of the best I have ever built - any subject, any scale. Biggest problem was getting the Allied Stars to conform to rivets and things

Neil try Microsol and Microset. Looks terrfiying when you paint it on as the decals go all crinkly but they settle down and go over all the bumps, rivets etc for that painted on look and sink into the nooks and crannies. Stuff stinks but it works well.

Finally decided on the layout and made a start . I was going to use the halftrack I've just finished but there isn't room :-) . That'll have to go in another dio! I was going to go for an iron road but it's not wide enough so it's going to be a dirt track (much easier as well...LOL). The only problem with sticking the Pak in is it means I now need to do a dead crew after seeing an ideal pic on the IWM site. Mind you it means I get to use my snipers! Hows everyone else getting on?
