Hey Guys Does anyone know the history of these gun trucks. Particularity if they were used in WWII and by who.
DEC 31, 2011 - 10:41 AM
Al, so far as I can find out they were only used by the Free French in N.W.Europe and then possibly in Indo China and North Africa post-war. There are a few photos I found on Google of a model of one in the desert with added side armour as well, but I haven't seen any other info on this.

32 were built. They were only used by the 22nd Colonial Group of the 2eDB anti-aircraft land forces, with a total of 17 enemy aircraft shot down between August 1944 and March 1945. (from Boniface & Jeudy GMC A Universal Truck) . They were used later in Indochina where some were uparmored like this one : A less sophisticated variant was also used in Indochina. The 40 mm gun was simply mounted in the cargo bed of an unmodified GMC and some armor plates added : HTH Frenchy
