Glad to see you here Robert!
Greg, can't wait to see the groundwork progress.
I have finally started my build for this great campaign! I'll be doing a build log on the Armor forums if anybody is interested, and will post a few pics here, too.
Cheers all!

Hi, I too am a Marder admirer.
The figures are whitemetal Dartmoor, and plastic ICM (yellow), and resin Gasoline. It's 1/48 scale so you have to shop around. Greg

@ Robert,
Nice work on the blouse - I do like the camo.
BTW: What kind of resin did you used for water effect? Did you create whole pond in one step or in few layers? What material did you used to make a form?
EDIT: Sorry for stupid question - you've already explained that in your build log. But my question about layers is still valid. Oh, one more: did you have any problem with heat? 2part epoxy is reacting with quite a hign temperature, am I right?

Thanks for the kind words. It starts to look like something.
To answer your questions aside from which brand I used which you found out already.
The original plan was to pour the water in one go.. However since my cofferdam was leaking I had to pour another layer to make up the loss. This is another lesson I learned... Next time I have to pour it when the first layer is not completely hardened. You can seen that I had to pour twice.
Material used for my form/cofferdam was styrene which was taped to the base. The styrene eventually proved to be a mistake because the resin stuck to it and was not preparing to let go. The tape proved to be a mistake because it did do a lot except keeping the resin inside the cofferdam.
Yes the resin got hot after pouring however I noticed a couple of things when I did my tests in plastic cups. Although resin gets hot it does not get boiling hot. So yeah it generates heat. The heat generation is linked to the amount of resin you pour. If you pour a lot then you get more heat. if you pour less then you don't get much heat. In one of the tests I mixed quite some amount of resin in a plastic cup and the whole bottom bulged from the heat generated by the resin. Later I did a similar test with less resin and the cup did not deform at all. Coming to my second poin t. The thickness of the plastic part also plays a role in the deforming proces. For my dam I used quite a thick sort of Evergreen. And the amount of water in the dio was not that big. So I was not afraid that I got a lot of deformation. Also the resin did seem to have no effect on the foam base.

Well, authentic Kar98k is a dream, but since I'd have to get licence for a gun in a first place, get allowence from the police, pay 4-8 times what I paid for this replica... I've figured out that it's far too much to do to have a real one... (though, if somebody would give it to me as a gift, I think I'd take an efford and proceed with all necessary paperwork and psychiatric tests... )
BTW, I have original Mosin-Nagant bayonet, so maybe this will be next replica I buy (right after MP40 )
Andrzej
I have 3 original k98 and they are wonderful firearms. I also have a PPSH41 and KP44 reworked from original parts sets that are also wonderful firearms

Hello,
@Robert, Your viginette looks great considering the cifficulties that arose during your "Water Treatment". Would you have used a different material for the cofferdamn/ different method to secure it?
@sourkraut, I've considered purchasing another K98 with markings, but the ppsh41 and a kp44, that is awesome. Those are both automatics correct? The ppsh41 is the soviet 9mm lead thrower and the KP 44 is the German Assualt gun Right? A friend of mine had an AK 47 years ago when he was in the service, but sold it because of the cost of a "Permit/Stamp"
The autos are really cool!
Best Regards,

No the PPSH is 7.62x25 and the KP44 ifs the Finnish 9MM sub gun.
they are semi auto, since they were built from parts sets. (to comply with federal law)
they are still wonderful fire arms though.

@ sourkraut,
I had always thought the PPHS 41 was a 9mm, Thanks for the correction. As for the KP44 I must have been thinking of the MP44/stg44. It looks like a neat firearm.

Boy, you guys are really steamrolling ahead here!!
Superb builds going on all over the place!
I finished my first campaign, the Blitzkrieg, so now I can focus on this one again. I am back at the front!!
In the mean time I have been researching and compiling a list of all FuG-variants and combinations used in German vehicles, complete with pictures of equipment and wiring. Comes in handy when you do a lot of command and/or communicationsvehicles. It isn't complete yet, but I will put it online as soon as I have an English version of it.

Hello All,
I started another project and almost FINISHED IT! I was planning on adding this into the dio I was working on, but the old Alan kit is just too ugly. This is the kit................
The chassis and lower portion went together quite well, excluding the tires. They were terrible. Absolutely no detail. I had to use my razor saw to do "The Groove Thing" on these. Very annoying considering out of the box they looked like drag racing slicks. The upper armored section was a real treat. Nothing lined up or fit. There is more Bondo in this kit than what I would normally use to apply zimmerit to a Tiger or Panther. The head light lenses I stashed for safe keeping and lost them. After a complete search of the bench and surrounding area, they were located only to drop them three times during assembly. The decals weren't bad, but very limited. I forgot to use the Micro-Sol on them, and to dulcoat everything to seal them up. I noticed after I took a couple of pics they were shinning at me.
I decided enough was enough. I'll dullcoat everything tomorrow and reapply the pastels.

Well you know how it goes... You just finished the water with a lot of problems and somebody comes with a tip on what I better could have done. He came with the tip that next time I could better use the strips on which in the supermarket they place the product prices behind. It seems that the resin does not stick to that.

Good result you got from it.
