I did something totally different this time with my build. I used Testors Flat Black as a primer and then used Tamiya's Olive drab as the primary coat. I usually use Primer Gray for the base coat. I think the Black on the underside made for some good shading effects as well as the grill areas.

The equipment on the Stryker doesn't have any colours set on the instructions.
The Jerrycans can be painted in black and khaki, how about the various bags and rolled canvas ?
Does it depend on the theater ?

In this one, the jerrycans are all olive drab and dark green for the rest of the gear.

Anyway it isn't rocket science... greens, browns and khakis some will do. I hope.

Hey guys

Check out this pic I found on Prime Portal. You can see the jerry can color pretty clearly. Looks like a kahki/olive green. The water buckets appear to be desert yellow, and are made of plastic so a semi-gloss might look good.

Robert - Using an airbrush, I painted my Stryker with a base coat of Flat Brown. Then I painted the flats of all the panels with blobs of Buff. I thinned down a mixture of Desert Yellow and Buff and misted the model with several thin coats until I had good coverage and it looked cool. I then repainted some of the panels and high spots with thinned Buff. All Tamiya paints.

Andy - Thanks for the help, but I think I would have to create a whole new account to change my callsign/user name. Oh well.

@ Duncan re: callsign...

I'm sure if you appeal to Jim Starkweather (pm him if you like) who is the site owner, he will probably arrange to change your callsign for you without you having to ccreate a new account. That's probably preferable to having two accounts. Jim, do you have your ears on?

Jan, thanks alot for the help. It worked!!! I can't wait to download more stuff. I hope to someday help you as you have helped me. Thanks Again!!

Mike, thanks for your acknowledgement and offer. I was only too happy to be of assistance to you and others that have been having difficulties with uploading images. We all win when we get to see the results of other peoples work. The right image can inspire others to start or complete their own projects. ;-)

Cheers,

The slow and troubled progress on my Stryker:

Latest problems, one of the front wheels was difficult to get in so I broke a suspension arm.. also a rear view mirror was glued upside down..
The decals are not very good, still have to apply the Microscale set, also painting the jerry's, equipment, antennas...RWS.. lot's of work...

I've made some progress on my Canadian LAV III over the past weekend and will need to update my build blog with pictures. Essentially I've finished building the hull and turret and have started applying paint. I'm on the hunt through my spares boxes looking to stowage to add to all those baskets.

Still building the RWS and painting the extra equipment, also found some card boxes, and will build some scratch equipment.
I'm looking forward to build another Stryker, maybe the Trumpeter 1127.

Hey guys

Andy - lets see some pics!

John - looking good bro!

I'm working on the stowage. I mocked up this option. I'm not sure if I like it.

I want to add some MRE boxes too. The Tamiya paper MRE box seem like a challenge to make look right. Anyone have any experience with these?

I plan to make the tie down webbing from tape. I wish the jerry cans and water buckets fit in the side shelf/bin. %$#@*#&!! Trumpeter

This is, by far, the most ambitious project I've done. All thoughts and recommendations are welcome.

Duncan,
I managed to shoot some paint onto the sides of the hull and will finish the top tonight. That will be the basic coat of paint. I'm still in the process of looking at images and hunting down stowage items for the build. I plan on using lead foil for the engine covers along with some of the tie-down straps that are part of the RM/Eduard photoetch set. I will make it a point to get some photos onto the net tonight.

Finally got started on my 1128. The main bits are built seperatly: top, bottom, rear & gun. I want to paint the vision blocks & around the slots before putting them in, then I can put it together for main painting.
Here's some pics, though not very good:

They're not actually put together here:

Looks cool Andy. The painting process is my favorite since you really get to see the model come alive. Will you be weathering it?

Bob,
Yes, I plan on adding weathering. I've got tons of photos for inspiration. I just want to get a base coat of paint onto her so I can see what I need to work on. Problem is that I don't have any Canadian decals so I'm on the hunt. I plan on spending most of the weekend working on the kit.

awesome mockup of the stowage Duncan. Where did you get all the stowage? Most of it looks like the items in the trumpeter kit. Is the rest from the spare parts box? I just need to add more stuff to mine. When to find the time.

Greetings all! I've got to say that there are some pretty impressive builds happening here. It's been pretty slow going for me but I'm starting to see the Stryker at the end of the tunnel.

I've added a number of pieces to the hull and started on the RWS. You wouldn't believe the number of parts to the latter or how frustrating it's been trying to handle them, especially the smoke dischargers. Here's some progress shots so far.

Start of RWS

Different angle of RWS

Dischargers in place and .50 Cal cradle installed

A few new parts on the hull and the .50 Cal installed

An don't even get me started about cleaning up and/or sanding the parts. But then again, don't we all like a challenge!

Cheers,

Jan,
Save the frustration and move to 1/35th Scale. Nice build going.

My SWMBO saw your message, Andy. She said "1/35? That's the bigger dust collector. Keep it up and there will only be room in this house for that next size down." (1/144?)

I forgot to mention, I was thinking of some storage but most of my spare parts box is more appropriate to WW II builds. I'll see what I can come up with in the time remaining.

Treads ahead?
