Hay all this was a very quick what if i did when i was board anyway here's the back story.

During the early 90's it became apparent that new opfor (opposing force) tank was required for training by the royal orcadies army. After some searching it was decided to buy 15 M60A3 from the USA the tanks ended up being gifted to the orcadies armed forces as they were redundant stocks anyway.

After some modifications witch included new battle simulation equipment sensors and a new paint job the tanks were deployed on to the south ronaldsay ranges to act as opfor by the duty armoured regiment.

John,

Thanks for your kind comments. The tracks and sprockets are King Tiger and the turret is from a Tamiya kit of an Australian M113. Nothing original, just a large spares box.

Regards,

Larry

John

I tried making guitars with sculty with no success what so ever. I will try again with other material when I build my diarama. First, I must reclaim part of my work space. Here are front and rear pictures of the finished tank.

Scott, I like the additional armor. Nice looking.

Given the nature of my rockin' WHAT IF campaign submisssion, I thought I would post this picture from the last Newsletter of Multi-National Force - Iraq.

Excellent entries in this campaign. Larry, I especially like your converted E-25.

I need to clear a few projects and then I will start my E-100 beast for this campaign.

Well here is my first tank that I have posted. I usually don’t post because... well... my tanks look crap in comparison to what I have seen around this site. I build more for fun then to get details exactly correct. ANYWAY, I saw this campaign and thought it was time I contribute to this awesome site!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My what if story....
The Russians are holding hill 294. A long dog leg of an outcrop, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. It gives them a field of fire in every direction, covering the best central routes to the supply East. The Germans come under devastating fire every time they attack or try to out flank. Several tanks and at least 100 troops have already become casualties.
The attack was to go in again 2 days later but an order from high command orders an immediate halt to the attack until a new reinforcement arrives. Slightly confused the men dig in and wait but are happy for the rest. A day later a supply train arrives in the rear. There are 4 new tigers and one tank under a camouflage tarp. The men gather around to see what is happening but immediately are ordered back to their posts. The next day the attack comes and once again the infantry move forward under the cover of 2 of their new tigers. As they make it to 300m to the foot of the hill they notice the other tigers charging at the hill from the other flank. The center tiger looks different though. It has a large disk on it. The tanks come under heavy fire but charge on. They disappear from sight around the hill. Then when they are almost on the first trench system there is a loud crack and a bright light that flashes from the other side of the hill. Then a few seconds later again a massive crack and a bright light pierces the sky. Troops from both sides slow their fire and are looking to the crest of the hill.
Then after 5 or 6 more loud cracks and matching flashes the trees on the top of the hill start cracking and falling down. One of the German storm troops yells with stunned amazement, that’s suicidal taking those tigers through a strong hold with this many pak guns! The commander deserves to be court marshaled for sure! At that moment the large disk appears at the crest of the hill and there is another massive CRACK! Lightening shoots out in every direction. In a split second the Russian troops that were in the bunkers 50m ahead of the disk have disappeared and the ground is smoking. Not sure what is going on troops on both sides stop shooting and look stunned towards the disk as it continues to break through the trees. It is now flanked on both sides by tiger tanks which are hosing down the trenches with their MGs. There is another CRACK and again lightening spits from the disk. This time the Russian troops are closer to the German men on the ground. They can see them get hit by the lightening and drop down into the trenches on the spot. The rest of the Russians put up their hands and throw down their guns.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By now I am sure you have guessed I have built a Tesla tank. I thought that the only chassis that would take the hardware would be the Tiger of Kingtiger. I wanted to give it plenty of damage as it would be charging into every attack and could only let loose when within the last 50m. The other thing would be that it would need cover from other tanks constantly while making its approach. I used an old tiger that I made when I was a kid, that was needing some serious attention. Anyway I hope you all enjoy!

In the Build...

Looking good Scott, cant wait to see the end result.

Love the E25 turret idea Lawrence. I was thinking it would be cool to get a flat top like the E10 and put a squashed turret on top, like from one of the cold war russian APCs. The E25 looks great. I am with Dan, cant wait to build the new E50 and E75 from Trumpeter. Then I can scrap my crappy custom builds I tried to make

Some great ideas coming through in this campain guys! Keep them coming!

Coming over to visit just to see what's been happening and . . . WOW!!! What an incredible amount of work from the participants. I have got to come over more often.

Nito74 with that cool camo E100 and Neil's one week Italian Panzer II. Andrew, well what can I say . . . you just keep adding more builds here and they are excellent what if's. Scott has some modern concept stuff going and Matthew Q has hammered out two concept Panther vehicles - saw your Panther SPG in the Photo Features. Dan has one interesting looking Tiger I with sloped armour and camo along with his large turret KV series tank. Michael's very detailed tank hull and turret. M4A2Sherman's long barreled killer T-34 series tank. And Steve making more progress on his wheeled thingy. Lawrence's SdKfz 925 reconnaissance vehicle complete with night vision, foulage and wide tracks. First time seeing a chrome wheeled KISS Panther by Tony . . . nice, complete with man's best friend riding on top of the turret. And Neo's E-5 - great concept and well engineered - waiting to see more on this one. Paul's “PAZUR” (or ‘Claw’) with that excellent crew figure having a go at burning his lungs. John's in progress E100 coming along nicely with some added camo loops on the turret sides - good idea!

And finally DazzaD's 'WHAT THE #$&K's CRACKING Tesla tank. LOL! I really enjoyed tha story. Super job on the camo and restoration job on that Tiger I. Hope that I have not forgotten anyone here.

Keep'm coming! This is one excellent campaign with lots of participants having lots of fun building and sharing. It dosen't get any better than this . . . and still 7 months to go.
