Hi there,
I love OOTB, makes you try a bit harder. Any hoo, my build for this is the Tamiya Jagdpanzer L/70 Lang. Looking forward to this build. I will post a pic when i can.

Randy: That's a fantastic looking Abe kit, I can imagine that building the tracks could turn into some kind of Buddhist exercise in patience but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end. And hey, what's an Armorama campaign without at least a couple of Abes!!
I also took a fairly long hiatus from modelling, one of the biggest changes that I noticed on returning is huge amount of reference material and techniques advice on the net these days. I also find that the encouragement and support from fellow campaign members can really help when interest starts to flag during those inevitable 'tricky moments' during any build (like those tracks maybe?)

Joel: Thanks for the good advice re filling the gap on my teeny tiny Abe, luckily it's not as much of a problem as it might look in the photos. I haven't joined the upper half to the lower half yet to allow for painting of the running gear, with a little light pressure the gap closes up nicely so a drop of liquid poly should do the job nicely.

Cheers,
John

John, after a 30 year layoff the biggest changes I found was the shift from enamels to acrylics, the level of detail and accuracy in the new kits, and of course the Internet. It's like belonging to multiple clubs. Tons and tons of information, great hobby shops with equally great sites like Sprue Brothers and the Squadron Shop.

Scott, that a great oldie but goody there, I built that last year for the Panzer IV Campaign. But I think that would be a better kit for the Totally Tamiya Campaign

Well then, i love Sunday. After dinner, boy out playin, so i cracked on and began to build my Jagdpanzer, Began and got to stage 4. i love retro kits. But on a serious note, can we use putty to fill spaces. Heres the initial photos of the kit work so far.

Loverly sunday.

Thank you Scott for starting this campaign. OOB builds are great since they do not take an eternity to complete. I finished my build and posted a pic in the gallery. Here are some more shots of my finished 1917 Ford Model T ambulance.

The one issue with this kit OOB is that there are no clear plastic lenses for two main headlights. I ended up applying about 6 drops of Tamiya Clear Gloss in each one over a ten day period to build them up. They still do not look great.

... can we use putty to fill spaces?...

Hi Scott,
I'm not responding re the official ruling, but I tend to use kit sprue as the filler of choice anyway. Stretched sprue makes a pretty good gap filler (stretched to roughly match the width of the gap, and flat number tabs or the larger sprue identification tabs can be filed into all sorts of shapes. It sounds like a waste of effort, but the real plus is that once the poly cement (liquid poly in my case) that holds the sprue in place has fully cured the patch is exactly the same hardness as the original so it gives a really good filed/sanded finish. If you're building older kits you might get a fair amount of thin flash, that stuff is just fantastic for filling because each layer melts very easily and conforms to the original surface, and you can quickly apply several layers to build up the filler (eg when filling sink holes).
All this is IMHO, but maybe an OOTB campaign is the perfect place to try the sprue filler technique (try it on a few hidden internal surfaces if you don't want to jump straight in with an untested technique.

Jim,
The ambulance looks fantastic and it's a really interesting subject. The weathering is great, it really looks like it's picked up a few extra pounds of the Somme.

Scott (Sudz)
The truck is coming together very nicely, I haven't built any ICM kits, but after seeing this I might have to consider some purchases.

I've decided my Abrams really is way to yellow, so I'll be applying a second more appropraite colour. Shoulda checked my references before jumping in with the paintbrush!!

Cheers to all
John

here are the pics of my jagdpanzer so far. I have finished the vehicle main body and wheels. Plan to begin painting tomorrow.

Quite a straight forward build, good, old tamiya. Couple of minor fillings to do, will use stretched sprue and liquid glue. to fill them. Cheers for the hints:)

Jeepers Scott, that Jagdpanzer really is a blast from the past!! I think it was my first ever Tamiya kit, a Christmas present circa 1976ish. It was so long ago that I've only just recognised it and bizarrely it was the figure I recognised first. But now I look again the kit is familiar.

You're making a 1000% better job of building it than I did all those years ago - to start with I rather doubt that you're twisting the parts to get them off the sprue!! (how young and foolish I was then... I use a hammer and chisel now;) )

Wow, it's great to see this old campaigner again!! I'm looking forward to seeing it built the way it should be.

Cheers
John

Howdy Scott

Good choice! I can smell the plastic of my youth. I always wanted that kit but couldn't afford it as a kid. Can't wait to see more.

@ Jim great job on that Model T
@ Scott love that old Tamiya kit looking forward to seeing it with some paint
I surprised myself and got started on my kit earlier then I thought. This is my 1st Trumpy kit and I found it so far to have a little more excess plastic then other kits and the connector to the spruces are pretty thick and whoever wrote the directions dont know the difference in numbers or how to spell . Finished step 1 which was all the wheel then moved on to step 2
Photobucket
So step 2 is where the PE starts and The front tow brackets are PE but it says to use wire thats not included so being that tis is an OOB Campaign I guess i have have to go with the plastic 1's

Maybe we should get a ruling on this one from the campaign leader. I know some kits that provide the hooks for tow cables but tell the modeler to use string for the cable itself. Could that still be considered OOB?

Not a problem I will use the plastic 1 that came with the kit and save the PE 1 for another build. But 1 would think that with 5 cards PE, 2 other size cables and all the other goodies that come with this kit that they would have thrown in some Brass wire
