Sal, I just figured out that you need some space to set all of these builds and wondered what SWMBO thinks

Bob

Hey guys thanks for the positive comments and I posted a photo in the Gallery

Bob, SWMBO has me doing my work in her kitchen so I guess she don't mind, keeps me out of the bars and she knows where I am. and yes I am running out of room I'm gonna have to start building more wingy thingies and hang them from the basement ceiling

Ok, here's what I'm going to participate with. I built the old version of this kit back when I was a kid (I think I was 10 or so) and loved it.

Hi all.

Here is my Dragon Orange Box Panzer III Afrika Korp. Straight out of the box...
First a few progress shots..

Amazingly only one of those photo etch chains got kknocked off in the finishing of the tank.

And the finished product.

My camera makes the paint appear to be even more faded than it looks to the naked eye. I painted it with Tamiya XF-59 first then over sprayed with some light, dusty colour I can't recall the number of at the moment.

Anyway, I am calling this one completed.

Neal: Another 232! Armored cars are making a big showing so far

Warren: That was fast! Well done, and don't forget to post a final photo in the official campaign gallery!
Any tips on how to pull of a successful "speed build"?

We are now at 5 finished entries fellas, great work everyone!

Unfortunately my laptop isn't working anymore, and all of my campaign files and other important things are stuck on it. I will have to create new files once I install the software on this one, unless anyone knows of a way that I can recover the original files from my other computer?

Thanks Jeremy and Anthony.

Speed building is easy, just make sure you have everything you need before you start the build and with a little bit of organising, and another kit to work on in the lulls, you will finish your build in no time.

As to the decals, even though Dragon neglected to show where the tactical marking go on the tank, the decals reacted very well to SolvaSet and they snuggled down nicely.

Cheers

Jeremy, how dead is dead? I'm assuming it's a Microsoft beasty and not Apple or Linux as an OS. If you can fire it up in any mode at all you should be able to fish the files out via Windows Explorer or if necessary DOS. If it can't fire up even in safe mode then you'll need somebody who can remove and slave your hard disk to a healthy machine...

Best I can do from an ocean away!

Ok Warren, I have figured that your work bench is the size of (2) conference tables to be able to hold all of your builds BTW the Mk lV camo looks nice.

Thanks Bob. Actually the clear space is about .. well here is a picture of the area in all its messy glory.

That's my 1/32 P-40B in the portable spray booth I use.. But I will be expanding the bench soon as I am tired of always having to move stuff around to get the spray booth there.. A new board for the top of the cheap Ikea workbench should increase the size I have to work in by about 50%.

Jeremy: As long as the hard drive itself is not fried, you should be able to get the data. A couple of years ago my laptop OS went bad and my IT guy pulled my hard drive and made it into an external, so if I need somthing from it, I just plug it in. Any computer repair shop should be able to help you out. HTH.

Warren, that P-40 sure fills up the area in your paint booth. If I remember correctly you did a write up, has it been user freindly?

Bob, it is great value and does what it says, filters out the nasty paint particles before they can descend on the furniture etc..

Hi Zon,
Sorry for the late answer, but my job stressed me in the last week too much.
I would say dust in Iraq creates the same, or at least similar, look as in Nothern Africa.
Probably more rust would be possible, due to the fact that the area has some more humidity because of the Euphrat/Tigris there and some different sand/dust colours.
But from reading here, I am quite sure that their are some (ex)soldiers here which served in Iraq and could give more adequate answers.

In the meantime I have started my 2nd build, a Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.G, DAK “Hybrid” Dragon 1/35, as I will call it:

I have found a interesting subject in Concord Publication „Armour of the Deutsches Afrikakoprs“, showing a Panzer III Ausf. G, of 2. Komp./PR8 der 15.Panzerdivision, with the tracks and drive wheels taken over from an (probably) cannibalized Ausf. H.

Keep you updated.

Tom, it is a Microsoft beasty and I can turn on the power and all the lights come on and the hard drive and fan start spooling up, but nothing happens after that and I am left with a black screen and a bunch of green lights on the buttons.

I'm pretty sure that it's not. It was working fine a few days ago, and I put it to sleep. The next day it would start to wake up, but would never give me a screen. I'm hoping that if I can't get anything to happen that a repair tech will be able to do just as you were saying. The ironic thing is that I just got a portable hard drive and didn't have a chance to download it.

Warren: Do you have the link for that review still? I would much rather paint inside than risk getting pollen in and on everything each time I have to paint .

Erich: Looking forward to it!

Now I can't ever remember doing a review of one (I bought mine) but here is a link with details about them.

http://www.hobbytools.com.au/prod1145.htm

I am sure you can get them in the USA but I don't know where.

What I do know is that it is very handy and does what it promises re the remaoval of paint fumes and particles.

I think those booths are by Model Expo, and started out in the States so you should be able to find them there. I picked one up over here and I love it. However, I have heard they aren't safe with solvent paints. (That came from the shop owner who sold me mine...) Anyone know if the motor is sparkless?

Thanks guys for the encouragement on the SdKfz. 232! I've been away from building since the late 70's...I got the bug again after helping my 10 year old son with pointers and some direction to help his modeling addiction. Needless to say, I'm re-addicted and wanted to start with the 232.

Getting on with the suspension and exterior transmission work....have some mold lines to clean up and gaps to fill here...

And some cleanup underway....

Thanks guys, I'll keep an eye out for one and see if I can find a good deal. I like the modular design, that could prove to be very useful if one has the extra money.

Neal: The bug never goes away my good man, it just slumbers sometimes
