All,
Have decided to have a bash at this train thing - time to try a subject area I have never even considered before.
Still working out what to do but it could be a little Bn2t steam engine in 1/24th scale (have just downloaded a card model so just have to transfer that on to plastic sheet - yep - the lazy method ).

cheers

Second, the plan/attemped to build a dio, with BR 81, thor, 2 flats with shells, one scratch build box car, and a flat with the ammo carrier.
Hope to finish for the Victoria train show in Sept. 2012.

All,
well the decision has been made and fabrication has started ,
this is the wee engine I'm going to attempt:

WWI Axis narrow gauge engine, scale will be 1/24 and 100% scratch (must be insane - my first loco model ), and here's my starting "kit" :

Just about to crank up the lathe and turn down some wheels and axles.
Wish me luck - think I'm gonna need it .

Most definitely GOOD LUCK!
At least it appears to have disc drivers and not spokes.
Is it a Riesa?

Cheers

Way to go Roger! That is one cool little loco. I'm sure the results will be, as always with your projects, completely awesome!

Now that's one cool little loco. I want to see it all done up. Right now I found out that I put too much white glue in my plaster mix and am trying to sand down the roadway for the cobble stones, what a P.I.T.A.! Already took out part of the sidewalks and this is going to take some time. Good thing we have a year for this. This thing has been around going on 14 years so the campaign is the insperation to get it done. Waiting for the camera to come home so I can get pics out, ( kids, you either love em or want to send them back where they came from depending on what they do ) lol

All,
Will - no it's not a Riesa, I'm still waiting for all the info to be sent to me (friend of a friend) but all I know at the moment is that it's an Orenstein & Koppel (O&K).
Sal - - tell ya what, once all the bits have been made I'll chuck them in a box and we can call it a "kit" .
Jim - long time no speak. yep it's a little cutie, helped make the decision to build a train that bit easier plus it's a bit left-field compared to what most are building .
Bob - "little" being the operative word, the posted pic is almost actual build size (computer screen size depending) with a 600mm track gauge = 25mm @ 1/24th.
Need a new parting tool insert before I can finish the wheels so thought I'd have a crack at machining up some track rails, gonna cheat and do them as short portable type.
Hope everyone else's projects are progressing as planned.

Roger.

As planed? Picture this. This started out as an experiment 14 years ago because I felt the plaster buildings were too thick for scale. I did my own pour of plaster and scribed the bricks, doors and windows, added a R/R track ect. Then when I moved to Indiana, I figured that with the R/R car there, you would not see the figures or lower part of the building. This was on a base about 12"X18". So I cut the base down to the building size and got my brother inlaw to build a real nice walnut base that messures about 22'X41 1/2".I guess I got kind of carried away but I had to add 2 rail tracks and a warehouse. Now comes along this campaign and I figure what the heck. Here's my insperation to finish this thing. Well of course I couldn't leave well enough alone, and today I am adding a gantry crane to unload the trains. I think Iv'e run out of space for this thing to grow ( at least outward wise ) but I still have the radio directional tower to add to the 1st building. Question comes to my mind, where the heck am I going to put this thing when it's done.

I guess I can start now. Two kits one build.
I don’t have any pics of this. All I have is what I got from my train info.

Here are my kits. Doing the 1/72 scale BR-52 locomotive, a Morser transporter and its appropriate vehicle. I might add a flatcar with a schlepper later on.

This may prove to be too much to chew for me but hey, live large, eh?

Hello everyone,

This campaign has generated a lot of interest which is great for me...I have read all the information intently, interested in the German box cars, a couple of companies appear to produce one. Any one interested in giving me some feed back on any of the models offered for sale by any of these companies? Some have beautifully detailed undercarriages with a lot of PE which look great but a lot of PE is not for me.

Whoops! Maybe someone here can help. I had gotten reference photos off the net years ago and now I can't find them. Also not having much luck with Google.

Would anyone happen to have some good reference photos of the RR wheel conversion for the jeep? I seem to remember that they were based on the rims of a CCKW 2 1/2 ton truck. Any good wheel shots would be helpful.

thanks!

Jim,
just a little tip - try Bing image search, I've found it often has a more diverse selection of images.
Just punched in "jeep railway" and got a quite good selection:

something to get you started anyway

Thanks Roger!! Those links are perfect and answered several construction questions. It looks like the examples shown mostly had the five hole 1/2 to 1 ton truck rims popular in the late thirties. I have some nice six hole deuce rims that I thought I was going to be able to use but I'll scratch up some five holes instead. After all, it may be a goofy wartime conversion but I might as well get it right!

thanks again!

Sal: looking good in spite of the oop's. Stay safe around that Occupy crowd. Some don't look too stable.

Ed you can enter with the flat bed, the loco looks like it has too much work done on it but I'm looking forward to seeing them both completed

I know this isn’t Rail Road, but I had to post it any way
This must be the ultimate Christmas yard decoration

The site is near the Oak Creek Bridge on the St. Michael’s Road [MD 33]. The folks who own the property always have eye-catching displays celebrating various ‘holidays’ through the year… this year they have certainly outdone themselves!

Merry Christmas

Here are some progress pics of my Br52 by Hobby Boss. This kit has its high points, but it is a challenging kit. I have built many difficult kits, scratchbuilt things and build bad resin and vacuforms, so overcoming the challenges with this one are not going to be show stoppers. HUT, for a modern kit, I would expect a little better. I trashed the steam brake piping that the kit supplies as soft rubber. Once test fit, it did not actually fit, the lengths of tube were too short by 5-8mm, too much to try to stretch out the rubber. Besides, knowing a little about trains, it just doesn't look like piping. I replaced all that with soldering wire and am satisfied. I'll have pics of that later.

Here are some early progress pics. I am enjoying the build immensely despite the kit flaws.

Fred: Can I borrow your photos and email them around? That is just too good not to share!! F-104 is a favorite of mine and a few of my friends. I'll give you credit for the pics.

I briefly started but didn't get very far and probably won't get back to it until after the Holidays. Anway, this is my start shot.

Sal: do I need a newspaper? Let me know and I can reshoot, as I know I won't build more for at least another week. The photo was taken 12-23-11.

Happy Modelling, -zon
