Lap Man: Nice choice!

I've manage to get back to this and will try to sprint to the finish line. The assembly has been done for a while, so now comes the painting and the base.

I've started with pre-shading and applying the base wood color to the deck.

I've also begun the base. It is intended to fit in a trumpeter clear display case. The loading dock is a carboard sub-structure coated in a thin layer of DAS with a plastruct edge angle. The ground work is celluclay, but I had considerable shrinkage, so I did some repair with spackle.

Sal: I will be adding figures, but they will come as part of my Blitzkrieg 4 entry, which will is a Pz IV. So, they probably won't make it before the Railroad deadline.

Some more progress.

I painted the wood slats on the deck then used AK Interactive's Worn Effects to give some wear to the panzer grau paint job. I've also included a couple of replacement slats.

Sal and Jesper: thanks for the kind words. I've since put the base coat on the rest of the car and the wheels trucks, but failed to take pics, so I'll post them next week.

Still pluging at it. Loco is going into the paint shed this week. There is no way I'll finish the dio but will get the track layed once she's painted and get it in place before deadline. I'll have to settle for that at this point. Consider myself lucky I got this far.

Aloha: A small update on small progress. I finally got back to the base last night only to discover that some of the edges had lifted off the base and I had a big crack. I was able to cover some of the crack with more ballast but was hesitant to fix the rest of the crack for fear it might not be cured and would again crack the fix. I think I will wait a couple of days and then fix the crack and fill in the edges where it has lifted.

In the meantime, I started some plantings, but there is still more to do.

Overall I think it is starting to take shape OK, aside from the crack and lift issues.

On a side note, PhotoBucket just re-did their website and it doesn't seem to be as friendly to us. So far, it seems instead of being able to hover over the image and get the IMG tag to show up, you have to click the image, click "share", click "links" and then get the IMG tag. Then you have to click to the next image and repeat the process. Does anybody know a better photo storage site I might try?

EDIT: OK, so there is a less cumbersome way. After clicking on the image within the gallery, you get a image scroll. Off to the right there is a "Links" bar. If you click it, it will stay open and has the IMG tag to copy from as you scroll through your images. Not as intuitive as before, but not as bad as my description above either.

eMan: looks great. I really like the color variations.

I'm about 2/3 through the decals on the rail car and I worked on fixing my base with some more celluclay. Still need to paint the repairs and add more ground cover. Hopefully I will have photos this week.

Small progress. First some teaser shots of how the car sits on the base.

The decals are finished. I lost one of the "hook/claw" things in the middle just left of center. The decal for that is essentially a ribbon, so it very easily got twisted around. I managed to save two of them on the other side, but this one got so twisted I had to abandon it. I'm thinking I will try a white pencil to freehand it. I also lost a decal on the other side. It is the set of lines at the far left. Same scenario, the decal carrier is not any bigger than the line work, so it twisted up on me. That one will be less visible, so not to worried about it. Otherwise the decals are very thin and go down quite well.

Next is to complete the repair on the base and begin weathering. I've also begun painting the "load" for the Blitz campaign.

OK, some progress. Now I need to do the tops of the tracks and the wheel contact area. I think I will also put a thin coat of dust on the lower sides of the car, but I don't know that I'll be able to do this in time.

First the completed base:

Now the car on the base:

This has been one of the BEST Campaigns, ever! I need to find a way to save all of this.

Just hope I can be part of a future Campaign with the same idea.
