November 25, man that’s a long ways off. Ok. I will save the rest of my Ironside kits for the build. I have the Box Car and a Panzertarggerwagen also from Irsonside to build.

Sal: You're a lucky guy to get that for you birthday bud! That's a way cool kit, really like how the car/gondola is set up for the 38(t) to set down in it like a bunker with only the turret and part of the upper hull exposed. It's essentially another armored train car with a turret

Wolf: You have some really good work going on there with your train collection. Looking forward to seeing your work in the campaign.

Hello

I signed up recently for this campaign. Looking forward to the start date

I'm enjoying reading what everyone is planning to build, and seeing what they are currently working on.

I've made a number of military railroad subjects over the past couple of years, all in Braille (1/72nd scale)

Most recent completed were a Panhard rail car by RPM, and a BA20 rail conversion for rail from ACE which I made for the Braille Battlefield campaign (pics below).

So far this year I've been working on a BP-44 german armoured train by Armageddon, in 1/72 scale, It has the whole 13 cars, and is a dog of a kit with poor moulding and bad fit of parts, but I'm working through it. I'm just building 7 cars through to completion for starters to make a half train, as each car takes a lot of work. I'm about 80% through getting them built to where I can get a base coat on them.

Then I'll take a break and build something different from this particular train.

For anyone that doesn't mind Braille scale there are a number of inexpensive options out there for german and russian rail vehicles, some are better than others, a few have casting and fit issues to look out for.

For anyone building the BP-42 or BP-44 armoured trains, the right gauge is 4ft 8.5 inches (1435mm) , as the germans had converted all captured russian raliway lines to standard gauge by the time the BP-42s started to be released before the end of 1942, and those they hadn't converted (Kharkov to Stalingrad for example) were not used by BP-42, but instead were patrolled with captured russian armoured trains. In 1/35th scale standard gauge equates to 41mm distance between the inside edges of the rail heads (the top of the rail).

Not sure what I'm going to build for the campaign, probably will make a few different subjects, and am looking forward to November and kick off time, and seeing everyone's work.

cheers
Neil

That is correct if it has steel wheels and is on a rail it is welcome, so let your imagination run wild

@ Neil, Welcome aboard

@Jeremy, yeah it is way cool its gonna be hard to hold off on building this one

Never signed up for a build campaign, but this one sounds fun and the start date allows me to get my summer chores done and have something to look forward to! Don' know what I'll build, but I have some ideas.

See you in November!

Hi all!
I have never posted photos here on this site and just decide to give it a try.I created a album and put in a pic just for a test.It worked.I then deletd the album as it didnt pertain to this campaign.
I have also never entered a campaign on this site.
I am thinking about entering this campaign with a few rail cars coming out of a factory.I also have a BR52 That I just bought from Milvefan, but this may be to much of a undertaking for now.
My question is do i just load them to my gallery for the entry?Do I just load all of them to my gallery and people then link through my post to see them?Just wanting to make sure I am doing it properly before enlisting into the campaign.

I'm working on your banner Sal. It's going a little slow because I have to use a friends computer until I can find my software disk. Hope to have it to you tomorrow

Hey guys if anyone is looking for inspiration for this campaign I just watched an old, 1964 black and white movie called The Train. It takes place in France and is about a Nazi Colonel who is trying to steel a bunch of art out of France. Besides the typical box cars and flat cars they show some good shots of Panzerlok BR.57 Armoured Locomotive and Kommand & Flakwagen. Lots of station and depot shots as well. Worth the 2hrs of watching

I thought yall would get a kick out of this little build. I call it!!!!!!

My Tinny Train
This is something I through together back in 08. I got the inspiration from some pictures my Dad took of a local train in Ghana, West Africa many many moons ago. If I remember right they wear taken in the mid 60’s. There wear two cars hocked up. One for passengers and the other was for baggage. The baggage car was just a simple flat car on four wheels.
The Dio was made of HO track and an old truck from an old HO train car. The coach was scratch built. The figure and Donkey are from the parts box. The canvas top is painted tissue paper. I had plans to do the baggage car but just didn’t get around to doing it. One day I will.

The train, the movie with Burt Lancaster, that one? I thought for an old one it was real good. Saw it about 2 months ago. Don't know where it was filmed though.

That's the 1. It said in the opening credits that they thanked the French national railroad so I would assume that at least part of it was filmed in France

Supposedly based on a true story but so outta wack "Hollywood Style" that the true historic value is lost. Lancaster is "over the top" in his roll but never the less worth a a rainy weekend. Speaking of which..... Have a nice weekend everybody !

At two in the morning and 999 channels with nothing on, it wasn't too bad.

Also watched Von Ryans Express last weekend,, A cool movie, just wish I could find a german WWII boxcar kit ,(Cheap and in plastic). Keep On Modelin, milvehfan

I agree with ya there but seams like the only 1 out there has been discontinued

http://www.internetmodeler.com/1999/september/first-looks/boxcar.htm

If I may, why not forget the pricey resin kits out the that are hard to find and make your own boxcar. Mine is built up as a G-10 clone...hardest part is finding specs and line drawings to go by. I took the DML high side gondola and made this boxcar and if I can do it I know you can. The German Eagle decals I tried to make turned out bad - otherwise I like how it finished up.

I also used evergreen siding for the car body and plain sheet stock with texture I added for the roof.
Interesting campaign....Hmmmmmmm

@ Bob, nice work on that box car, this campaign doesn't leave the station until November 25 so you got plenty of time to come up with an interesting build,

@ Fred, all your photos look like they are taken in a fog is something covering your lenses there

Hey Sal how is this one look? I guess it was me trying to lighten up the pictures MC Photo Editor. They looked alright to me though. And too I’m still figuring out this camera.

Hmmm...pondering a few things-
Choice "A" build-
A
or
Choice "B" build-
B
Last train campaign I was nearly going to build one of those and passed on it - not this time!
Next question is to build in 1/25 or 1/35 scale.............I gotta go find where I stashed the plans for one of the two of those lil Macks.

BTW...I'm enlisted!

Fred: nice little vignette.

Bob: nice boxcar. For your build choices, I find option B more interesting, but likely more complex to build.

Happy Modelling, -zon

This is getting more interesting and a little stranger each time I check in. First strange one was the bicycle powered platform which was so cool I thought about adding one to my dio, and the second was the mule powered one. Was thinking where to get boogies for a scratch built tanker I wanted and the answer comes up from Bob C. All aboard that is a board. All that aint, is a plank.
