It´s not in German only anymore. There´s english version available and I have to say it´s a must for armored train modelers.
For example from here:
Sawodny

Looks like a great book but thats a heavy price tag

I know it is a pricy book, but I think you pay for what you get. If you want good info and it is the only info what do you do? It’s where I got the info on several of my builds. For instance my DKW NZ350 Dispatch Motorcycle on Rails, and the improvised Panzer IV Panzerjagerwagen.

@Sal, I found out what was wrong with my pictures. My monitor was getting darker. I didn’t relies it until until the other day. I was doing some work on my other computer and reliesed one was real bright and the other was real dark. So I swapped monitors. Everything is so much better..

All models are very nice. I also like the railroad Military. Actually I am gonna enter this contest/campaign with my latest models. The Leopold from HobbyBoss 1/72, BR-52 from HobbyBoss in 1/72 and a Um (UniModel) German armored railroad car.

Here is a possible ribbon for your campaign. I have sized it in order that it will scale down correctly.

The main problem with the ribbon now is that is must be reduced in size to 50x20 pixels. Unfortunately, the ribbons don't look as good once re-sized so some editing will need to be done.

Once the 50x20 version is to your satisfaction, it must be saved as a Compuserve GIF format file. Usually this is just a matter of choosing it from a list when saving.

Once it is in GIF format, refer to the TUTORIAL: For Campaign Leaders thread on how to upload the ribbon.

Well to keep you all aprized. the 1/35 Dora is now in the paint shops, if everything goes well, got a new way of painting large models, As I am used to 1/87 and 1/72, re new to 1/35. did some when I was in my teens but that was when they were made of stone.

The biuld was intresting, not a Dragon or Trumpitor kit, though. And why black??. Yes I could just paint it before, but was not to sure of the plastic. so now comes the paint and weathering or sould it have much, was just thinking a light rail weathering.

Next is the Trum K-5 leopold. and finish of the other rail equeipment. ie paint and weather.will post pic when done.

Nice job on the ribbon guys, looks cool. I stopped working on the base to keep within the regs for this one and have been P/U all the stuff I think I need to finish it up.By the way, is it November yet, I'm chomping at the bit again.

Ribbon looks good. Thanks Darren and Sal. One possible suggestion might be to change the cannon to outlines and fill in the rail wheel, which might shrink better, but it's a good looking ribbon still.

November will be here soon enough, but the anticipation is getting to me as well. It doesn't help that I'm working on my Command Campaign tank which is in the same box as my rail car sprues...

Happy Modelling, -zon

I know you are looking for 1/72 scale, have you looked at some of the 1/87 – HO scale stuff. Check out this site.

Yes, I know about HO/ 1/87 scale but I don't know if I put 1/87 engine on a 1/72 track that the HO engine will fit on 1/72 rails. (most likely not).

Ya I know 1/87 – Ho scale is a little smaller than 1/72, but what is there more of? There is a lot more HO train stuff out there than 1/72. Take for instance the lokos that Revell / Monogram had or have out. They are 1/87. It wasn’t until a few years ago we didn’t have any train stuff in 1/35. It is up to you.

This has been one of my pet peeves for a long time. I know the rail road people have been around longer than the plastic scale molder has. But why can’t we get the scales standardized? In trains scales you have N, HO, S, O, I or #1, G and some others. HO = 1/87, O = 1/48, I or #1 = 1/32, and G is a aodgepog of scales.
I gage and G uses #1 Track. #1or I gage is 1/32 scale. For a long time there was a few 1/32 scale armor kits out there, Revell, Monogram. Armor kits in the most wear scartered all over the place, 1/40, 1/48, 1/32 and so on. What they called BOX Scales. It wasn’t until Italeri and Tamiya came on the sine and flooded the market with 1/35. Even Aircraft model scales wear all over the place to, but least they got their act together somewhat. Don’t get me started on Figures.

Hi Martin

the only 1/72 scale german locos in polystyrene that I'm aware of are by Hobbyboss, who make the BR52 Kriegslokomtive (link below) which is said to be a nice kit

http://henk.fox3000.com/hobbyboss.htm

Armageddon (Mach 2) make a 1/72 scale armoured locomotive, the Panzerlok BR 57 as part of their BP-44 armoured train, but you have to buy the train with it (half or whole train) . But this kit is not cheap, and of the standard of a poor resin kit. Takes a lot of work to get this one together, poor moulding, & poor fit of parts, lots of sanding and filler needed.

http://henk.fox3000.com/Armageddon.htm

also in 1/72 scale:

UMmt make a couple of different russian WW2 armoured locomotives and train wagons.

UM make some self propelled german rail cars

ACE make a couple of russian armoured cars converted to rail.

All the above manufacturers are fairly good , though not up to Dragon or Revell's standard, so you will need to a little sanding and puttying up on some joins

The german rail gauge was (and still is) Standard Gauge, which is 4 feet 8.5 inches from the top of the inside rail edge, to the top of the opposite inside rail edge.

for metric countries (like Germany) thats 1435.0 mm.

In 1/72 scale thats 19.93 mm between the inside top edges of those rails

in 1/87 scale thats 16.49 mm which is HO rail track. This track is too narrow for a 1/72 scale model.

Some people have narrowed the axles on 1/72 train kits so they fit HO scale track.

Hobbyboss make 1/72 scale track, though it is a tiny bit overscale at about 21mm, it scales to closer to Broad Gauge.

I've found 1/72 kits of trains & vehicles made for rails come with a piece of track, so unless you intend to build a larger base or diorama, you have a piece of track in the kit to sit the model on, or mount on a small base.

Fred (Graywolfgang) re mixed scales, couldn't agree with you more, with the mess of scales out there.

good luck

cheers
Neil
