Looking great Jeff! Since you took the time to scratch the tow cable clamp and fenders it would be nice to see the exhaust pipe bored(if I may suggest). I like what I see Jeff. Your eyes are still holding on? It's pretty small a thing

Hey Philippe,

OH Yeah! shes looking sweet. Flakpanther is just a cool looking machine. The quad AA MG's turned out very nice. What are some of your concerns before you paint?

Great job Phil!

The main concern is that The info is d**mn scarce and nobody seems to have built this fine piece of machinery before!
if you can catch some info on that... Except for the box review and the order sheet from abt.653 there is not lot a infos , I know they were in tarnopol on april 1944 and I'm gooing to base my paint scheme on this unit at this time. I,m going blind on that one not even a bad pic... The good part is that I got some time : the links to clean.
Thanks Gary.

Hey Phil,

you will definately get to use some "artist intepretation" or "artistic liberties" as they say. I have not seen a completed example of this kit either. do you plan on doing the 3 tone camo pattern referenced on the kit box?

Hi Gary,
I will indeed use the 3 tone camo on this kit using the same colours you used on your jagdpanther It seems to be the good thing to do, and the nicest to!

Does anybody have an idea on marking on the flakpanzer in general? Or since they were unique in units they had none
Thanks
Phil.

Hullo all, First up I'd like to says wow some great work going on in here (after crawling through all 25 pages so far). I hope I can present at least something 1/2 as great.

Anyhow Darren has given me permission to join late (with a slightly started vehicle)). See below

Dragons Panther G Smart Kit, with Griffon PE, AM barrel, Bronco tracks and possibly the engine out of the Tamiya maintenace set, Kit will be painted splinter cammo.

Here's where I'm up to

Hope to get some bench time today with it updates then.

I'll be interested to see how you find the Bronco tracks - my opinion of them is not printable.

Now thats worrisome as I have Sherman and Leopard 2 Bronco tracks in my stash. . Might try putting some together for a test. What was/is the biggest concern in your opinion?

Edit it, just did one sprue worth and not disapointed or worried with the results. Much better than rubber band tracks and while the detail is not quite as fine as Dragons magic tracks, I'm prepared to loose a little to have the workability in the tracks instead of glued rigid.

Apistofreak, didn't you care for the Magic Tracks supplied with the kit ? I'm thinking they would be pretty easy to install on a Panther.

I have used magic tracks twice, First time I decided I didnt like them, second time I sold my first born to satan to help me with them.
Actually I mainly dont like the fact you lie them all down, glue them, put them on to set. Then either you leave them there and they are a pain to paint or remove in sections, paint reassemble in sections, in which case they are a crap version of Tamiya link and length (which I dont mind but many seem to hate). I Almost prefer rubber band tracks over magic tracks.

Apistofreak

My problem was that the pins which should have held the links together kept breaking off, which meant that I had a large pile of small pieces, not whole tracks. In the end I gave up and used the kit tracks.

I wish you luck.

I have put together 3 sets of Magictracks,a Panzer,a Sherman, and a Panther.Yes they take a little time to put together.Yes they are tricky to fit.But to Me they are worth the extra effort because in my opinion they are just so much better than the"rubber band"tracks. There is just no easy way that I have found to get the one peice tracks to look good.Just look at the Jagdpanther I'm doing.I know it's 1/76 but I have an idea I would have had to do something along the same lines in 1/35.Just my 2 cents.J.T.

Thats why I said magic tracks are "almost as bad" as rubber band tracks, not worse (the extra effort is better than using rubber bands). I have got Dragons Panzerjager I,
I plan on using the kits magic tracks (and they are tiny).

enough with the track thing, lets start another feud!
I'm not serious here but look at what the postman brang me this week: voyager towing cable for panther ausf a/d and eureka XXL for panther ausf a/d.

I've received the voyager first and tought to myself: God if it is at right scale those thing must have been huge. So I decided to wait and what do you know? next day got my eureka.

If I follow my instinct I'll go with eureka XXL cable.
Where I'm getting at is: People of armorama, panzerholics, wich one are accurate?

Thanks.
Phil.

Phil...The Panther F I just finished, that you guys helped Me out so much with for an other campaign had two choices for cable ends.Big and bigger I don't know if it was the correct thing to do ,but I used the smaller ones,as the big ones just looked too big. Here's a couple of pics

I don't think they need to be any bigger.Hope that helps.J.T.

Phil...I built this kit for the Whatif2? campaign. You know, what if Germany won WW2,post world meltdown, that kind of stuff. It's a great thread.Check it out.Back on topic. You had to have a back story.Mine involved this tank being found underground in a secret room in Hitlers Bunker,so it had a lot of dust and storage dirt on it.In the process of getting it out large amounts of concrete dust and chips where dislodged and fell on the F.It does look a little like ice and snow though.Hadn't thought of it that way before.Check the last two pages of the whatif2 thread for more pics. Thanks,Jeff T.

Haha! Sorry Jeff, must be because I live up here in Québec and it is winter that everything is snow related
Now that you tell me, it is obvious. Sorry again, it's been a big week for me Still I would like to know the technique you have used the effect is great.
I've just went on the what-if campaign and I think you are mistaking on my identity, I,m not the big guy with the gun...
I'm another Phil, Philippe to be exact!

Phil

The Panther tow cables (and the one around the winch on the Bergepanther) were 32mm diameter (1 5/16"), so at 1/35 would be almost 1mm in diameter.

Imagine trying to lift a few metres of that !

Rob
