OK fellas, I'm calling this one done. I may add some figures later. This has been a fun kit, and a great campaign!
Since this was OOB I used the kit headlight lense. I may go back later and put in an aftermarket one.
I was failry happy with the weathering overall, but especially on the rear of the hull.
Again, a great time. Thanks guys!

Thanks Ian.
I'm trying to learn to use the pigments, but so far I haven't mastered them. I keep ending up mixing up some celluclay and adding the pigments to that for color!

Guy,
First your T-34 looks good.
I recently finished a Dragon T-34 for the Vietnam campaign and one of the things I was most happy with was the headlight. I painted the inside MM chrome silver trim and dipped the lens in future came out looking real.
Cheers Rob.

Rob, I have to agree with you. I was surprised how much I liked the look of the headlight that came with the kit when I put it in. I may just leave it.

Ok I'm calling this done, its also the first campaign I've done here.
The base is something I knocked up quickly to use as a base to display my builds, I have no intention of leaving it on this base.
Cheers.

While I haven't been too active lately I have been following the thread and WOW, some quite impressive builds turning up.
While "technically" finished, my Chi Ha Early was not what I considered ready for Prime Time. I've been working on a few other projects so it sat forlorn waiting for final detail and weathering. Ambition struck today and I attacked the lower hull, lower hull sides and especially the tracks. Still lots more to do but I am pleased with the tracks so far. I allocated a couple of hours to the tracks and I'm quite happy with they way they turned out so far.
Next on the agenda is further work on the road wheels, sprockets and idlers to be followed by the upper hull.
Cheers,
Jan

Guy - Nice and muddy T34!
Max - Great looking model and I love the pastoral scene! I hope Hans doesn't singe the flowers when he fires off those rockets.
Jan - The tracks are looking good, amazing detail on that little fellow.
I'm making some progress, I got a first coat of paint and the tracks mostly assembled.
Still plenty of painting and weathering to do.

Slowly but surely I think that I'm getting there. It's taken a few sittings but I'd guess that the beast is about 90+% complete. The turret needs a bit more work and not sure how to handle the mufflers and the muffler guards need some more work.
Might need to touch up the tracks a bit too as they got dulled out a bit in places by the other weathering.
Cheers,
Jan

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments, some great looking builds being posted now that we are near the business end of the campaign.
Looking forward to all the upcoming builds, with so many great campaigns I'm having trouble choosing which kits to build.
Cheers.

Sal - It's just a matter of time! You now how it goes, just one more little touch here and there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting closer still and maybe 98% done on the tank (images as of yesterday). As always the pictures show a few spots that need some attention such as the Japanese character on the right side of the turret. It's a bit too clean or bright. I've been working on the base and of this writing I'm just waiting for the glue to dry. Should be ready for final pictures tomorrow.
This seems almost like a marathon but it's been quite the learning experience.
Cheers,
Jan

Jan, nice build. Your build has convinced me that I need to break out of my rut and finally build one of the Japanese tanks in my stash. Great job.

Ian, thanks for noticing this little tyke and trust me it's more than dry-brushing. I created my own acrylic washes used with craft paints and also had paint mixed with what they call "extender" and "glaze." The purpose of those two additives is to give the acrylic the attributes of artist's oils. I've used them before but never with this much success!
Guy,, I'm glad that you can see some potential in Japanese subjects. For the most part, they are a mix of a late 1920's, early 1930's look but with a few unique more modern features.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, as far as this campaign goes I felt that the Chi Ha was ready enough to upload pictures to the campaign gallery. I kept the base fairly simple so as not to detract from the model too much. I might work on it (the base) a bit more, might not.
Here's a few pictures to share with those in this thread. As the model is barely 3 inches (7.62 cm) long I took the pictures with a 5X macro. Despite diffused lighting the images really don't show it as well as the naked eye.
Here's a blow-up of the rear engine area that really shows the difference between the Early and Late production variants.
It's been a interesting and fun campaign and I had actually hoped to get another build in but with other commitments I don't think it will be finished in time. I'll keep dropping by to see how everyone is making out and to answer any questions anyone might have about my entry.
Cheers,
Jan

Guy... Looking good, I like the weathering, and its good to see tracks that are not totally rust red.. btw what color did you use for the tracks. :>
Max, nice job on that 251, esp on the wood crates. I like how you did those.
Jan
That is a great looking project there. I can't say any one thing stands out because the entire build is excellent.
and just so everyone knows, I take notes.. got to improve my skills somehow.

Thank you for the compliment and I hope that some of the information in my build might be helpful to you.
I perhaps should have had this reference picture in my last post to add clarity to what I was referring to. Here's a similar rear area on the Late version.
For anyone interested, the Blog for the Late version can be found HERE

Delbert
Thanks,
I first paint them with Tamiya buff then apply oil paint and remove excess, I read how to do this on another site but someone posted a how to here "I think". This cart was my first attempt at using this method, as you can see if there is some wood grain in the kit the results are very realistic.
cheers

Hello again.
Here is another update on my project, the Sea Vixen.
Decals part 1..
this thing has a lot of em.. The paint isn't the greatest either, I had to strip the white once already and diecided not to redo it again. For some reason it did not want to spray correctly. I am hoping I can even out my bad spots with a little weathering.
