Thanks Phil ! I'm glad I'm not the only one ... sometimes after messing something up I really wonder if Murphy's isn't hanging over our shoulders when I'm on my workbench..

Now the STuG is really for paining .all the bits i wanted to do has been done and many thanks to Paul one part which really annoyed me is now looking great
Right here's the pics .
First off the extra armour ,tracks of course and since they are Fruil i had to cut the centers out to match the tracks already on the tank .
and now the new hatch covers
Now the rest of the goodies ..

Before I start my Stug, anyone have any advice for getting track sag when using DS tracks? I thought they would be a bit better than standard rubber ones, but I'm kinda disappointed
Any suggestions?
-Conor
Conor;
I have yet to work with DS tracks so I really cannot tell you the best method. If it were me, I would try pulling down gently where you want the sag and use a small amount of heat from a hair dryer.
AND I mean a small amount because the plastic surrounding the tracks can be affected too.
Or, using a pin vise gently push down where you want the sag and drill a small hole into the hull, then use the same size of the hole a straight pin or small wire brad and glue the pin into the hull, thus forcing the track section down a small amount. Then just paint over the pin to hide it.
There are many tutorials here on Armorama like this one http://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/13266&page=1 on how to paint tracks that cover the sag method, I just cannot find it at the moment.
Hope this helps some and maybe a few members can add to my description or have a better idea.

Phill that Stug looks great! Lots of detail on it. What are you thinking about camo?
I managed to get some paint on mine. It still needs a lot of work but the camo is on.

John, your tank looks excellent, What brand of paint did you use for your base colour?.
I was going to use Vallagio Model air Dark yellow for my base colour but I think it will be to dark.

John, i'm digging that camo pattern.
And then there's Phil's StuG F. Another top notch build by him.

Jeff, I thought i saw somewhere that you could stretch the DS tracks some to give extra length and maybe enough to create sag. But it could be too risky. Just a thought bro.

Hi Conor,
I´ve not yet used DS tracks but if they´re anything like Tamiyas newer style tracks you can add sag by glueing them to the top rollers one after another and end up with desired
sag. heres one I did in 2009.
@Phill: glad I could help, now I´m envious because I´m no where near paint yet.
@John: cool paint job, as I´ve just said it´s going to take a couple of days yet till I get that far.

Picture time.
First up we have a picture of both hulls. I marked them somewhat clearly; "E" & "C/D". I am literally building the two side by side. This picture also shows exactly pre-existing work was already done to each.
I went ahead and addressed the kits' gun mounts. I slapped a piece of scrap styrene at the rear and clamped them. It helps to keep the guns from loosening up or the mount actually coming apart.
Front and rear views of the vehicles. Both fighting compartments dry fitted with gun mount. The rear decks are mostly assembled. Exhaust, tow shackles (front & back) are done.
I hit a bit of a hiccup so I went ahead and started the wheels and did some preliminary black painting. I sprayed the inside of the road wheels, the main gun openings, the exhaust, and the inside of the air intakes.
Black paint dried, I started clean-up and assembly of the road wheels. And yes, I did mask off the centers where they glue. Anyway, you see the wheels in each stage of cleanup and assembly. And then there's the picture of both sets of wheels assembled.
Anyway, that is where I am at.

Tearing into my Stug tonight!
And just to prove that I haven't been doing nothing...
Oh, and this is my tentative solution to the track sag issue:
String! But that's probably only going to work in a winter diorama Which the Stug will meet its end in!
Photo's when I'm back from Cape Cod
Happy modeling.
-Conor
(PS since I've looked at those photo's, all I notice are errors here and there )

Great progress everyone! I was planning on finishing my other campaign's before starting my STuG III G, but I couldn't resist. I will post some photo's tomorrow.
Sal and 'Nito' John - Great looking builds, all the more amazing because your both building for multiple campaigns and leaving me in the dust.
Trevor - I second Mike's comment, your 'unorthodox' build technique will be educational to watch. I really like what I see so far.
Phill - Damn! Digging that detail work. Those clamps and hatch mechanisms are amazing. It will almost be a shame to cover them in paint.
John - Nice ambush cameo and that IIIG with the remote MG and Saukopf mantlet makes my STuG look like an old clunker.
Conor - Dragon is really shy about packaging molded zimmerit and magic tracks together for some reason . All the Tiger I's with Zimmerit I have seen also come with DS rather than magic tracks. The zimm'd King Tiger 6303 does come with both .
Nathan

Lots of great work coming out.
@Nathan,
my copy of Dragon's Henschel King Tiger with zimm (6303) only came with Magic Tracks. DS tracks may have been a later addition.
@Erhan
How many versions does that kits allow you to make? I see two fighting compartments for Gs. I see a barrel for a StuH42. I even see the early spherical muzzled gun for the early Fs. I don't see a roof or radio boxes for a F though.
@Sal,
Looking good.
@Phill,
Looking good too. Those hatches look great. Liking the schurzen rails.

Hi Alex,
Trumpeter has different boxes 4 StuG III, 1 StuG IV version. Combination of parts used for all versions.

Oops. I meant 6303 comes with molded zimmerit and magic tracks. You're correct that the kit does not come with DS tracks.
Alex, (and everyone building early STuGs), there are some really nice early STuG photos posted on Missing-Lynx here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/thread/1341602396/Ebay-+various+items...
