Hello Anirudh, welcome on board.

Anything around dday in Normandy is allowed, check the rules, the elaborate a bit more on what is and is not allowed. So, if you want to model a horse, and you can show that that kind of horse was in Normandy on or shortly after dday, it's ok.

So, in theory, your 88 or vierling is perfect, just make sure that the type and the crew manning it were effectively in Normandy.

But you sure have a lot of possibilities here.

The rules, again

1. Any armored vehicle, Allied or Axis, that was in action between the Caen - Cherbourg road and the coast between June 6th and June 9th 1944 in any scale will qualify. Any vehicle used to storm the beaches - ex. LCVP, LCM, DUKW - or diorama of the D-Day landings will also be allowed. The same goes for the airborne landings.

2. Markings must be of any of the divisions - US, British, Canadian or German - present at the aforementioned time frame. Wading gear isn't mandatory, but strongly encouraged. The same goes for the Sherman DD, Sherman Crab, Churchill AVRE and other "Funnies" of the 79th Armored Division.

3. If the unit of the model you're building was in Normandy at the time, and it's been know that this unit was equipped with the model you're building, it's assumed that the model you're building qualifies. The model must however have the decals of the qualifying unit.

4. The model must be armored, so no jeeps and trucks or other soft skins.

Artillery does have some armor. ok, you could argue the same about an up armoured jeep off course. It's just, there were so maaaaaany jeeps and trucks that it wouldn't justify this campaign.

So, for the artillery question, it's ok, as long as you make your dio typically Norman, meaning thus you set in a bunker type environment, or being assaulted by airborne or seaborne troops, or anything you can think of. I think this way it sticks to the theme, but gives you a lot of freedom in your model.

Dave, maybe I'm over thinking this, but...

"3. If the unit of the model you're building was in Normandy at the time, and it's been know that this unit was equipped with the model you're building, it's assumed that the model you're building qualifies. The model must however have the decals of the qualifying unit."

I just need markings for my unit, but not the tactical number for a vehicle that was actually in Normandy on June 6-9? Only asking as I want to be as accurate as possible but I'm having issues finding enough pictures of the same vehicle to get the exact markings!

Either way, I'll be doing DML's Orange Box M4A4 with Verlinden's Crab Conversion.

Thus, I'll be looking for decals and transfers for 79th Armored, Westminster Dragoons. Using either

as references for vehicle markings.

Hello Richard, welcome on board, it's never too late to join.

Christopher, you're absolutely correct, the campaign isn't about modelling a picture, and there isn't photographic proof of every afv in Normandy, so as long as its plausible, it's ok.

Got my reference book for the Sherman Crab from Osprey today! Spent more on shipping than the book itself on Amazon. Some pretty clear photos in there; now I'll have the correct markings and can add some detail to the Crab setup.

I think I'll join in with a flakpanzer 38(t) (or perhaps a Panzerbefehlswagen) from the 21st panzer division

Hi Everyone,

I have been following all the builds on this Campaign and must say they are of a very high quality, I can't comment individually as there have been so many since I last posted, but well done to all those who have shared their builds.

I have now managed to get started with my Marder IIIM at last and have managed to put some of the hull together and enhance the drive sprocket and idler with photo-etch, here are the pictures...

The drive sprocket with the photo-etch detail...

The idler with the photo-etch detail...

The lower hull, I have filled in the hole for the exhaust, at the bottom right in the photo, as I am doing the version with the external exhaust pipe...

Hopefully I will get more done over the next week and post some more progress shots.

All the best,

Paul

Builds are looking nice fellas!

Dave - I have aquired a Humber scout car Mk.1 with 31st Tank Brigade June 1944. Im going to try and start this build by late April 2013. Does this qualify? It says D-Day on the box but im not sure if it came ashore on D-Day thru the 12th. Do you have more info on this?

Thanks,
Gary

Hello Gary,

It's the bronco kit, right? I have that one in my stash too. There's a picture of jinx in Normandy, should check it to see the date and area.

But let's say it qualifies.

Dave

Gary,

Check this out: http://www.warlinks.com/armour/11_hussars/11huss_44.php. This was an armored car regiment, 2 of the 4 squadrons (C and D) landed on June 9th at Juno Beach. B squadron landed on the 16th. It's very confusing and incomplete but they definitely had Humbers (sometimes referred to as HSC). B squadron is indicated as having a Humber AA (your model), so it would be reasonable to suppose that each squadron had one.

Here is a Humber driver's memories of Normandy: http://www.ddnf.org.uk/memories/m_guymer/.

I've been watching this campaign for a while now and have just joined up.
Doing some on the action around Caen etc and also Cotentin Peninsula (Cherbourg). The stash revealed a Sherman M4A1 possibly 2nd Armored Div? Also Panther A, and a PzrIV H maybe 21st PzrDiv or 12thSS.... Any suggestions?
Thanks Dave

Help needed! Will be using the old Italeri Panther A. Any ideas who makes AM track link sets for an A, search yields G model sets.

One reason, of many, why I love this site is the knowledge shared. A to G tracks - what's the difference? Trying to use up the kits from the stash adding gun barrels, eqpt, track etc. NOT vinyl track
Thanks Dave
