Steph - thx for the links man, i appreciate it.
Sal - I sure would like to try those tracks on my next Panther build. It will be a Flak Panther with D. chassis.

Hi Dave,
For the Panther you could always use Tamiya's indy-link "G" tracks. Dragon's Magic Tracks are better, but a bit like hens' teeth to find.

Gary,
I never used then just saw them while trying to help Dave out with his question
I'm not a big AM guy i use what comes in the box unless I buy something from a guy here and he includes the goodies in with the kit

Dave,
The panther A used the same tracks as the G. Bronco makes a set that is new and less expensive, but the most accurate and best looking is the Model Kasten set.

Hi Everyone,
Things are progressing slowly, mainly to domestic pressures on my spare time. I managed to get the running gear fixed in place and one run of track added. The UM link and length track is easy to fix and looks quite good when finished. Anyway here are the pictures of progress so far...
Hopefully I can get a bit more done this week.
All the best,
Paul

Hi Everyone,
Some really nice builds going on at the moment, excellent work. I have made steady progress on the Marder, and have got on quite well. I finished the tracks off from the last post and then added the fenders, I included some photo-etch detail for the supports, this isn't quite finished as I have to make the forward support appear fixed to the glacis plate - I will do this next week. I then had to scratch build the driver's compartment as the one provided in the kit is the cast one, which is incorrect for a late version. It was also a welded fabrication so I had a go at producing weld seams using stretched sprue, seemed to work. I put some large rivets on the side of the cupola, although these are supposed to be bolts, I couldn't find any hexagonal Evergreen strip anywhere and I didn't have £60 to spare at a local model show for a punch and die set (outrageous prices for some of these tools). I shall finish off the hull and then think about scratchbuilding a Pak 40 for the superstructure, I say think as I don't know how much work will be involved, but the gun provided in the kit is not very detailed at all. Anyway here are the photos of the progress so far...
The fenders and supports fitted...
The drivers compartment, I left a little ridge all around so I could put some stretched sprue in to make the weld seams...
The stretched sprue in place...
And made into weld seams by melting with liquid glue and detailing with a scalpel blade...
The driver's visor and rivets added...
Finally, I am replacing the bolts that were lost with sanding and modifying the hull...
That's it for now, I will post a new update when I have some more work done.

Paul

It's been a while since my last update. It's a long story, but I might be changing subjects and putting my 82nd Airborne scene on hold for a bit.
Anyway, I was thinking of maybe going with a Bren Carrier. I've always wanted to do one in wading gear. I think I have some date appropriate Commonwealth figures around here somewhere.

Hi all.
I've already entered the group build with an M7 Priest, but I've decided I'd rather build it as a late war vehicle somewhere in Germany.
So I'm build a Tasca Sherman III as either a member of The Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment or the Canadian 1st Hussars.
The date I started was August 31st if you can't make out the picture. Sorry for the delay in posting this, my wife and I just had our first kid and a 5 month old makes a hell of a dent in modelling time.
Here's where I am with it now, 1st attempt trying to create some casting texture and it looks pretty good but it's impossible to tell from this crappy photo. I totally mangled the antennae and had to use one from an old DML kit. I also added a commonwealth style stowage box to the rear hull deck from the same kit. Only other out of box changes is some copper wire handles and a lion mark barrel. Favourite Sherman kit which figures as Tasca kits are a royal pain to get in Canada.
Cheers
Jeff

Got the Sherman III primed and ready for paint.
I'm planning on using Gary's build log for the Hurricane as a bit of a guide line for this build. If I get half as good a result I'll be very happy. Hopefully I'm not becoming a thread killer because this was a fairly active campaign for posts till I came along.
Cheers

Andy, nice little Cromwell!
Dani, great progress! Good job!
All of you, great work here. I'm in a bit of an aircraft period right now, but I'm still following this campaign and will soon start with my project.

Great work all around.
What's your opinion on the AA Crusader? I've been wanting to build one for a dogs age, but worried the kit wasn't that great. It looks pretty solid from your build.
Cheers

Here's an update on the Sherman III. I had the camera out so I snapped a couple pics. I decided to go with the 1st Canadian Hussars.
Looking through photos it seems like the Hussars were sort of inconsistent with where they put unit and formation signs. I saw them in various spots on the transmission and on the hull, so I went with the hull because why the hull not .
I still need to gloss it to add a bridging decal. Need to finish painting quite a few details, get the stowage more to my liking, tie that down and finish the track before I can get to the weathering stage.
Take care,
Jeff

Moving right along
Got a start on weathering. 1st time doing the oil dot system and I'm fairly pleased with it. Still need to dust up the nose and rear of the hull, pin wash, do some mild chipping and paint a figure that doesn't look awful. Got an Mxpression figure painting dvd in the mail so hopefully my figures will stop looking like I paint them with a paintball gun. I also got to glue down that tarp so it sits more naturally.
One issue I have is because of the working suspension, the front wheels are riding high. Anyone else encounter this problem and have a solution. I'm thinking of taking a trick from plane builders and gluing 2-3 ounces of fishing sinkers in the transmission.
Thanks for looking
Jeff

Jeff---that is a sharp looking Sherman. Great finish on it.
Dani---Like your Crusader. Good to see that one in the campaign since it is not a particularly common vehicle.
Andy---Outstanding looking Cromwell. Very nice!!
Bst wishes, Ian
