Most of the Shermans I build are less expensive DML kits, so this is a real treat, this thing is like a dream to put together.

Pedro, I concur wholeheartedly. I just finished the Firefly Ic and it's hard to think about building anything but Tasca kits from here on out. Of course, then I get a look at my build pile and reality sets in Nothing really outrageously wrong with any of the DML. AFV Club, or what have you in my stash, it's just that their not quite Tasca quality!

Cheers,
Rick

Rick,

It's only my second Tasca build, I own several others but ration them out one every few years. If I don't do that, I'm afraid I'll build them all before I touch any of my other Sherman's. most all the tascas I have, I bought at reduced prices. A few years ago dragon usa online cleared them out of their catalog and I picked up 5 of them for $150 bucks plus shipping and tax. My only regret was that I didn't buy more. The other day I snagged up a couple more at a local hobby show for $65 this build is one of them. I also recently added two more at the special price that pacific coast models is offering the recent version of their m4a1 DV USA kit. Those came with free aber barrels to boot. Right now I saw sprue brothers has one of the firefly versions for $34! But, for some reason the site doesn't recognize my account information anymore despite the fact I've ordered from them several times in the past. I read a few months ago that they were having virus issues, maybe that has something to do with it.

Been a while since my last update for this one. Not a whole lot to show. Most of these were taken a while back. I lost a lot of the pictures. And I've been stuck on how I am going to proceed with this one. I've some ideas brewing though. Bewtween the lost pictures and plans changing I almost un-enlisted. I'm going to try to soldier on through though.

I may have this one up here already. I didn't see it in its library on my Photobucket account. Anyway, running gear and lower hull.

Turret. I backdated it and removed the gun shield piece. I rigged up a MG mount and will probably use a Browning 30cal instead of a 50cal.

Some of the upper hull assembly.

Turret on hull.

That's it for now.

Here's a couple more photos of where I am with the Sherman's base.

Sorry the photos aren't great used my phone pretty much because I got too lazy about setting up a tripod last night.

Working on shutters, and trying to figure out how to make blinds. All I've figured is foil is ok, but I need a curtain rod smaller then a toothpick.

Scratched up a shelf and a chair, but planning on cluttering up the interior a touch more too.

After that figure painting which terrifies me, but picked up a painting DVD so hopefully I can translate some new skills into presentable or better figures.

I hoping to enter this in my 1st contest early next month so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Don't plan on placing, just hoping to enjoy the experience.

Cheers

Jeff, tremendous work! If you don't mind, I would like to know what you used for your grass and what colors you used to paint it. Everything looks fabulous look forward to seeing it finished

Thanks for the compliment.

I used Noch Wildgras XL (12mm) that I picked up at a local model railroad store. I didn't paint it, but I did hit it with a wash made of water and mig allied faded green.

Het Guys,

It's about time to start my own contribution to this campaign, one problem, I can't choose!

I can do one of the following options:

- my original choice, tamiya centaur + aber wading stacks
- tamiya Cromwell + black box hessian tape
- AFV Club churchills: I have several of them
- Bronco's Humber recon or armoured car
- Tasca Firefly: several options
- Tasca Sherman III: Balaclava or Charmer with lower wading stacks
- Dragon Sherman M4 with full wading stacks
- Bronco's new jeep
- Dragon Priest

So, which one should I pick?

Thanks!

I am considering going firefly myself. I hit a snag with my 6th AD M4A1 and will probably switch over soon. Dave, were there any firefly IC landed on dday? I also have the Tasca VC kit, but been wanting to build my dml IC for a while.

I vote for an AFV Club Churchill simply because I love watching them go together.

I found some firefly VC d-day alternatives in my stash. Turns out I had some older kits and also some kits that I had little interest in buying originally but got them anyway because they were too cheap to pass up. One is a 1/72 scale DML kit #7303 i picked up red tag for $4! the other is the ancient 1/35 kit #6121 I dugout from the bargain bin at my LHS at least ten years ago. now i plan to build it mostly OOTB with a couple of improvements including fixing the welds and cutting the tub by almost 1/4" in the back to the proper length. If anyone has done this fix before any information would be greatly appreciated.

The only things I've ever built that was not 1/35 scale have been a couple of AMT 1/25 trucks, some old 1/32 scale monogram Shermans, some tamiya 1/48 Sherman's, and an old ertl 1/24 scale bulldozer. So I'm kind of curious to try the 1/72 kit although am not sure if my eyes will hold up and I have zero experience painting and finishing something that small. Both the #7303 and the #6121 have decals to make a Canadian firefly named "blitz" that belonged to the 27th tank regiment of the Sherbrooke Fusiliers. I believe they landed on June 7th 1944 on Juno (white beach) as a reserve unit, but quickly ended up facing an ss hitler youth panzer division. Blitz was knocked out early on in that battle according to the information in Steve Zaloga's d-day armor book. I'll post box pics I took this morning later on.

here are the pics for the additional builds I will be doing for this campaign. I might still finish the M4A1, but for now my focus has turned to the 1/72 scale firefly #7303 and the ancient DML 1/35 #6121, some pics:

last night I spent a couple hours working on the #7303. these kits are more detailed than I thought, but they have a lot of that detail already molded and they are simple and quick to build. I think each bogie unit has like 4 pieces

anyways, I got one side of the suspension done, the hull is mostly put together and I started the turret. I had to split my time with another build that I'm doing for the Sherman Only Campaign because I was straining my eyes too much even with my reading glasses on! I just need to pace myself with this one, but I think she'll turn out okay. Definitely a new experience for me but its been fun so far as long as I can avoid eye strain headaches.

I'll be starting in on #6121 today with the primary focus on the turret and upper hull as I'm still trying to find information on the lower hull fix. I remember there was an article on this issue somewhere, but that was like 10 years ago

I found the article on the DML M4A4 lower hull shortening fix! I'd forgotten it was written by Mike Canaday. So I decided to take that on first for big "Blitz". I ended up doing some welds and the turret sanding and rounding fix, plus other extras in the lower rear hull hull area where DML did not include the side plates that cordon off the exhaust deflector. here are the progress pics for today.

this surgery took about an hour.

and a few more:

and a pose with little "Blitz" I just realized that the #7303 painting instructions show blitz without the blanket box, so I am going to have to take it off little blitz, that is why I didn't put it on big blitz.

made more progress on big blitz and now am full on focusing on DML#6121. Today I test fitted the AFV T-62 tracks on this sucker and I am blown away by the snug fit! Not too big or too small, these things fit the DML Firefly like a glove. I am so used to having to take out a link or two or add a link here and there, but not this time, this is a sweet fit. I also cut and pasted the hollow wheels as a have a ton of spares of those to make sure the wheels have back detail. I also cut the board/base that it will be mounted on when finished. Check it out:

I'm going to Normandy in may, I'm sure ill find some inspiration there.

Hey nice building. Only suggestions would be to muck up the inside and outside a little. When a house has been blown apart it gets pretty messy. Nice work tho.
