Hi,

This campaign is really motoring, lots of allied armour and Shermans, nice work those that have begun their builds. I have just got my UM Sd.Kfz.138 M Marder III and will be beginning that shortly. I have to send off for a RB metal barrel and some Photo-etch to detail it. It is a nice kit OOB, but I want to detail it some more. Here is the starting photo as required....

I am looking forward to getting started, this will be probably my first build and hopefully I will be able to squeeze in another opponent in for all that Allied armour.

All the best,

Paul

Hey Tom,

I'm afraid, I have some bad news... Your Sherman is an M4A3, and if you go to the beginning of the thread, you'll read that there weren't any M4A3's in Normandy on dday. Jeff can tell you all about it.

Don't see how you'll be able to convert it a qualifying Sherman though, so I'm afraid I can't allow it for this campaign.

Sorry, but I don't want Jeff on my neck.

Hey Paul,

Your Marder III M was surely around on DDay, from which unit are you gonna build it?

And of course, welcome a board!

Dave

@Jesse: great job! Which size of styrene are you using for the different molds?

@Kieran: I'm glad you find your pics.

@Gary: the stacks were removed quite soon, so, its not a necessity for the campaign. You can easily find pics of hurricane without the stacks. But of course, it looks better with them. I've ordered stacks from the Tank Workshop, I'll let you know how they are. You're not going with the Black Dog's stacks then?

Tom, there are lots of suggestions! Shermans, churchills, cromwells, panthers, tigers, pzkw iv's, and so much more. Just not an A3.

What do you have in your stash?

Gary, don't worry about it, they aren't needed... Just something different then the usual stuff. It's totally up to you.

Ok, Tom, let's try elimination, what do you want to do, allied or axis?

If allied, you can go with almost any Sherman, just not the A3. You'll find the M4, M4A1, M4A2 and M4A4.

Churchill, mk III, mk IV, mk V, AVRE...

Cromwell, or Centaur

Stuart, M3A3, M3A5

I think I can go on here for some time...

Just make sure you build it with the right decals, but that shouldn't be a real problem since they're readily available for the 2nd AD, the different independent tank battalions and brigades, 7th AD, etc

If axis, well, let me know if you prefer axis, then I'll list some others. Also, there are plenty of examples in the thread.

Tom,

For allied vehicles, the M-10 was there as well. The picture of the Churchill IV ARVE I'm building on Sword beach has an M-10 Wolverine parked right behind it.

Dave,
Thanks for your help.
I have Tascas 35016 British Army sherman V (M4A4)
Is that a good one?

Tom,

The Sherman V should be ok. Just watch out, there are no decals for a D-Day version in the box. So you should look for decals of one of the different armored brigades (8th and 27th British and 2nd Canadian or the 7th British armored division).

But this shouldn't be too difficult to find. Enough kits have decals of these units in the box, so you should be able to easily do some swaps here. Other options are bison decals or archer fine transfers.

Can any one help Tom to find a picture of a Sherman v in Normandy on or before June 10th?

If you have any more questions, shoot!

Would the Dragon 6121 Sherman Vc Firefly be acceptable? It has decals for 27th Canadian Armored Regiment 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade Buron France 1944? or the decals only for the Sherman V?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm building the Dragon/Cyberhobby M4A4 at the moment (same basic hull as your Firefly) and I wouldn't wish the pain on anyone! Leaving aside details like incorrect welds etc, the basic fit of parts is poor at best. You'd be better off building the Tasca kit and scrounging some decals for the correct unit. The markings in Tasca's Sherman III (35018) would do, and I'm sure there are folks here with spare sets of those...

Due to my poor choice of a kit for this campaign therefore I'm submitting a new kit for the project.
Dragon 6511 M4 Sherman 75mm Normandy.

Please let me know if this kit fits the category.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

The M4 will fit the campaign perfectly and leaves you lots of options, since a lot of M4's were there.

Good luck!

Hi Tom. Nice to see its all sorted out man.

Got a small update. Got the bogies all together and attatched. They went together very nice but there was significant mold seams to clean and sand on every piece.

Thats all for now.
