Colin,
The more the merrier. Between you, Ian, and myself, there are now 3 fireflies going on at the same time and all three types produced, VC, IC Hybrid, and IC rolled plate. Can't have too many Fireflies IMHO. BTW, you're really doing amazing things with that 20 year old kit.
If you don't mind me asking, what AM photo etch kit are you using and what type of bending tool do you use?
Thanks Pedro! I am using the Eduard PE kit, and as for tools I am using two razor blades, flat end tweezers, Xacto knife and various bits of rod I had lying around. Seriously thinking about getting a tool from the Small Shop though!

Pedro,
That is a beautiful Firefly you've got there! Impressive construction.
Colin, hope to look over your thread later today. And welcome to our endeavour!
John
Thanks John,
How is the Achilles coming along?
Pedro,
A little slow, but making some progress. Wanted to have a less than 100% ammo load in the ready racks, so was trying different things. I ended up with making some 'brackets' with sheet styrene, so I can load only some of the ammo canisters in the sponson storage...
So in the pic above, where there is not the 'circle' (which is used in the kit to center the ammo), I will not have a round. So this is the center piece on each sponson, so have 4 sections each with a different number of ready rounds.
Now have to paint them up and load the ammo. The rest of the interior needs a wash and detail painting, then can glue the hull together and start working more on the turret and gun.

That looks sweet! Looks like a solid little kit, how has it been build wise?[/quote]
Thanks Pedro. It's the first bronco kit I've made and I've been very impressed. The legend stowage set is excellent and the kit defiantly needs it. The basic kit is a little bland otherwise.
The kit builds pretty quickly and easily but does have a lot of small pieces which isn't a huge problem unless you're like me and have a habit of dropping it and causing it to smash during the painting or flinging the piece across the room... I'm still looking for part of the exhaust!
Looking forward to your paint job on the Sherman. Looks like a fun build!

Hello again everyone..
Thought I'd throw out the photos of my painting, step by step so everyone will see where I go wrong..
Here is my base coat on the M-10 Achilles, I'm doing the black and Khaki Green version.. It looks cool and goes beyond the basic Olive Drab.. (painted with Humbrol #155)
by the way anyone familiar with the Sherman variants exhaust on the back. the directions call out for red brown which prob means rusty.. does anyone know if these had paint on them or were just a burnt metal color.. (I'm looking through my reference also but any help helps..)
thanks

Looking good Delby, that is a really nice sun beaten OD look. For exhaust, I use a brown and black combo for the base and then work my way out with lighter and lighter browns and oranges for a rusty look. Then some pigments help to add texture and make it more believable. Here is a link to one of my gallery photos of the exhaust on a Matilda I built earlier this year for the KO'd campaign.

Thanks James,
I'm seriously hoping that Bronco gets into the Sherman mix. I've been hearing great things about their kits and the new little locust is calling me every time I walk into the LHS. It looks like a mini Sherman so I think I'm going to break down and buy it one of these days.
The DV Firefly has been a real blast. The two kits that I've been using are so compatible that it is really not much of a kit bash. I almost just literally swapped the upper hulls. Both of these kits are derivatives of the M4 Normandy kit and therefore share a ton of parts. Most of the sprues in the boxes are the same.

Keep up the good work John, I'm almost ready for paint as I am going down the stretch here and must now start planning the paint approach as some parts of my Firefly did not burn. it is difficult to tell from a black and white photo so some 'artistic license' is in order.

Colin, do you have a set/kit/part # for Eduard? Apparently there are different sets and I want to make sure I get the one that includes all the tool brackets and stuff. I'm getting tired of making those myself from PE sprue.
TIA,
Pedro

Howdy..
I've been working on the Achilles, doing some masking.
I'm doing the black on green version that kinda looks like a modified mickey mouse look..
its really hard to get curved bits of tape for masking but I think this will work.. photo of masking so far.. it goes slow.
here is the box art showing what I'm kinda shooting for.

howdy everyone.. me again..
Gary, I'll be watching. I have that one sitting in the stash right now..
Well I finished up the masking of my Achilles, and airbrushed the black.. I chose a color called weathered Black because I wanted a faded black, not a dark black..
This is my black on green camo. I'm doing the full 4 views because I think it looks pretty good.. this is the most complicated masking job I've done on ground vehicle.
these are quick photos under bright lights so the colors are not dead on exact.. lol
so far so good.

It's nice to be right every once in a while. When I saw the carefully planned pre paintwork I knew this camo scheme would kick ass. Looks awesome Delby, you really knocked it out of the ballpark.

James, very nice build, just one issue. Canadian Staghounds did not mount the side fuel tanks.

Hmmm thanks for that information. I'm not a stickler for accuracy i.e. unless there is photographic evidence then it didn't happen and anyways it's too late now so this one will have them mounted. I could not even imagine trying to remove them now.
I built it as per the box instructions so ill have to blame bronco this time
Ill keep it in mind if I build another one in the future. Glad you like the build. Ill be looking forward to finishing it before the campaign end!

I am not a big stickler either, as I said very nice build. And their may be one out there with the tanks.
Here a couple I have found without.
Now the Aussies did leave the fuel tanks on theirs.
