Hi everyone,
I'm ready to jump in to this one now.
My Unfinished Business is the Trumpeter T-62 Mod 1973.
It was the first kit I built upon coming home from Afghanisatn in Dec 2011. It's a great kit. I built it all the way through (OOB), but got bogged down and frustrated during painting. I wanted to portray it as a Syrian tank with the green/sand/gray camouflage, but at the time I had no air compressor for my airbrush. So there I was, trying to freehand a cammo pattern with cans of propellant. Yeah, it didn't work out. I tried tricks, like using a masks made from index cards and trying to control the air pressure by submerging the can in hot/cold/lukewarm water, but it wasn't giving me the clean, soft-edged look I wanted. Alas, I had reached the edge of the techniques I was comfortable with. So....after much cursing and several cans of Propel, I put her away for a while. And there she sat, in a box, waiting for me to leave my comfort zone, stick a crowbar in my wallet, buy an air compressor and figure out how to use it.
(dramatic music)
It's time.
Here's where I left off: (SO CLOSE!!!)
Wish me luck.
Chris

Hi all,
Hope it is not too late to jump in on this one, I have a 1:35 Jagdtiger kicking about looking to be finished, planning to set this up as a little diorama with a motorcycle orderly and ammo loading crew. ran out of steam on this build about a year ago and since I have the opportunity to finsh it off, I may as well take it
here is the current state of the beast
Yes, that rubber band has been on the gun barrel for over a year. I'm pretty sure the glue will have set by now

Is there a minimum percentage of a kit being built to qualify?
Everyone knows I have a few that I didn't finish! LOL

Ok, so I have the modelling attention span of a ferret drinking Mt Dew by the gallon...
Latest and greatest attractor of my attention, the ancient and pretty cruddy Zvezda Mi-8T.
TERRIBLE fit, fragile rotorhead, finicky weapons pylon fit, cruddy decals and abominal weapons options.
Built to 80% completion long long ago and then it sat.
So, Akah paints, a little Mig finishing product filter and wash, some DML rocket pods and spare Begemot stencil decals ( good lord do them boys loves some TEEENNNYYY TINNNYYY print) and we're here.
Whether I manage to stay focussed and finish is anybody's guess (but dont bet on it..)
Next time we do one of these, Unfinished buisness, Gettr Done, or Hangar Queen campaigns, we oughta have a "Triple Crown" award for finishing off three kits from different genre, Armor, Air, Ship, figure, or Sci-fi.

Update on the jagdtiger
firstly, I had a small track malfunction to fix
Added a little bit of a warn metal look to the edges and objects like handles and so on that you would expect to wear, using a HB pencil, it looks a little messy at the mo, but will clean it up when I move on to weathering the thing
This is a quick snap of what the same effect looks like on th road wheels
and this is the effect that I am aiming for, let me know what you think, any feedback s welcome!
more to come- I'm hoping to get the figures done some time next week

Brent,
Those are some nice kits. Good job, I'll have to look through the stash for my Cromwell kits one of these days, soon.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Moving right along...
I added the camo pattern to the turret, and fixed the camo on the hull, and did a little dry brushing of the base color:
Thanks for looking

Thanks! I'm pleased you like it.
First I applied mixture of water, plaster, paint and very fine sand. It was rather thin and pale. I just wanted to add texture.
Next was layer of powder pigments. To add more interest I used different shades. Layer was rather thick to add even more texture. After one side was finished I sealed pigments with White Spirit. Soft brushed with long bristle dipped in White Spirit was just touched to surface.

Two more done. The ancient DML T-80u and T-80SMT.
But photobucket is acting all wonky, wont upload and wont update.
Besides 7/4 is not a day for Russian tanks anyway.

Pics for these two. Ancient DML beasties, T-80U and SMT
No great shakes, but done and finished to a modicum of modern standads. I would have LOVED to be able to finish these this well back when I stared them.
And yeah the smoke grenade launchers are unwired and glued at the wrong angle on the SMT, but I'm calling this one done.
