Good evening friends!
I've been busy outdoors digging foundations for a patio in our garden. I have developed a strong distaste for trench warfare which, besides having some obvious health issues, is rather hard work as well...
Anyway, I have managed a bit of modelling since my last post, here is a quick update:
Those rockets have had been on the agenda for some time: I have requested myself to finish sanding and cleaning up one each evening. It´s BORING cleaning up underwing ordnance. The armour guys have their roadwheels and we have our underwing ordnance to suffer through.
As far as I can figure out we are missing a few significant aircraft, among them a British Avenger and a French HUP-2 Pedro helicopter. I am quietly thinking of exchanging my Wyvern for an Avenger and building the HUP-2 for my French entry.
That leads us to a question: Have anyone seen an HUP-2 with suez stripes? There is a very nice page here: http://www.netmarine.net/aero/aeronefs/hup2/photos.htm but no stripes to be seen anywhere. I asked Tedmamere directly since he is located in the middle of Pedro-land (or rather at its eastern edge but that probably doesn't matter...) but he had no info. Can anyone help?
Regards
Magnus

Glad you had a good vacation Bjorn, glad to have you back.
Magnus, your Harvard is starting to look real good.
Entry No -1 is finished.
Its Heller's 1/72 Ouragan in Israeli markings.
I know that on about page 2 of this thread it is in camouflaged markings, but after some digging around i found that this aircraft was re-painted at least 3 times, so as i am a bit of a sucker for NMF planes, here's mine.
It didn't come out as shiny in places as i wanted, but I'm quite happy with her, ( apart from crappy Heller decals ).

Congratulations, Andy! The first one over the finishing line! And a real beauty of an entry!
The Ouragan is a very cool looking aircraft, and it truly represents the era of early jets! Straight wing design and all, it still managed to perform well in Operation Kadesh, even though it was mainly used against ground targets. I think that it scored a kill against a Mig-15, but I'm not certain?
I'm glad you went for the NMF one, since that was the one that I had booked you for in the list! I'm also glad that you chose to enter your aircraft in this campaign instead of the rather ordinary "Show your teeth" one (in which it would definitely have qualified!) :-)
Off to the Mig-15, are you?

Your doing a heck of a job on that Texan! A British Avenger would surely be a more 'unique' choice than a Wyvern. As it happens, Hasegawa has a British Suez Avenger in 1/72! When in New York, I paid a visit to USS Intrepid. Arguably, the Avenger was the most impressive aircraft of them all. That was one HUGE lady!!!
I have tried to find out more about the HUP-2 markings, but I have not seen stripes on any of the pictures. There are a couple of kits out there, see here.
I did find this great photo during my search, albeit not connected to Suez. Perhaps some inspiration for a future Helicopter campaign?
Speaking of Avengers, maybe TedMamere would like to check out this site. Loads of great pictures and info, not only regarding the Avenger but many of the french naval aircraft, etc.
Ps. You know that I'm only kidding about the "Show your teeth" campaign, right. It was awsome! :-)
Cheers!

Hi Björn!
As Andy already entered a model for the "Teeth" Campaign (and a MOM winner moreover!) I'm happy to share is talent with you!
Andy, that's a cool little plane! great job!
Magnus, what you wrote revived of some memories in me! About my recent T-6 build but also about digging foundations for a patio! :-) Your Texan looks good so far.
I received Frank's (Clanky44) Wyvern today! With Björn's Avenger, these two kits will be my entries for this Campaign:
A must Thank you again Björn and Frank for your generosity! What you did is another example of the spirit of this site. I hope I can give you something back one day in a way or another. To start, I will try to make the best models I can out of your kits!

Thanks Bjorn.
One fact i did find out was that two of these aircraft, flown by Captain Jaacon Agasi and Lt. Kishon during a mission on October 31, 1956, that they attacked and damaged the Egyptian destroyer "Ibraim al Awal", the vessel was so damaged that its Captain decided to surrender the ship to the Israelis, later they repaired the ship and put it in service with the name 'Haifa'.
Yes i am now starting the Mig. expect some finished pics soon, as its the old Airfix kit, and has got about 10 pieces :-) .

Progess! Tomorrow I'll paint the details, add the landing gear and other parts. I've ordered the decals, but I'm not sure how long the will take to get to me.
This kit is pretty good, it has loads of detail and the fit is good. But I can't help thinking that things could have simpler without sacraificing detail in some places.
Also, I think I've found my ideal modelling pace, if you know what I mean. :-)

Howdy fellas,
Really enjoying your Suez Campaign And excellent work by all so far {been lurkin'....what can I say? }
Even though I doubt I have sufficient time to join, I was wondering about a couple of things since you guys have obviously done your research....first, I was curious if anyone could point to any more info {pictures mainly} of A-1 Skyraiders involved with this action? And secondly...I don't suppose their were any Fairchild C-119's involved were there?
tia
Tread.
EDIT: How about Super Frelon's? My info shows the Frelon's being delivered to the Isreali's by Spring of 1966.....

Entry No 2,
Airfix 1/72, Egyptian MiG 15.
Built OOB, with the undercarriage in the up position as,
A- i haven't built a kit with a stand since i was a kid.
B- because the wheel and undercarriage detail was nonexistent.
Decals are from Hi-Decal.
The aircraft was stationed at Kibrit Airfield in 1956.
Andy (++)
P.S I think I'll end up building aircraft from all 4 nations as i have just got a 1/72 Sea Venom .

Here is my finished entry for the Suez Strips campaign. Notice the yellow paint with black strips. I wasn't sure of how many strips were accurate so I put plenty on the plane.
No, I'm only joking. It's not really finsihed, I still have to put on the wheels and canopy. :-)
This is my first attempt at preshading. Hope it turns out better than it looks right now.

No C-119s. There were C-47s, Noratlas, C-46, Il-14, Breguet 761, Hatings, and Valetta. I haven't seen C-119 mentioned.

Hi all of you!
I am new to the site and think this campaign by PolarBear is great! I want to add that my (first) entry will be a Israeli Dassault Mystère IV in 1/72 (the old Matchbox kit) with Isradecals and some aftermarket parts. I start my build today, looking forward!
Best Regards,
Peter

Hi again folks. Been a bit passive lately, but I've been hung up by the fact that I had no good digicam. Here are some pics though.
The first is one half in my superb reference book for Swedish Mustangs. I dunno if the artist made a good job copying Tamiyas 1:48-model, och both had the same drawing. It fits well though.
Next is both halves. I still work with brush on smaller things, but the "messy" walls look better in reality. Maybe it wasn't such a good camera after all.
Here is the tub. I cheated a bit, putting in RAF-belts, but it's far to the store if you live on the swedish countryside.
This one might be off topic, but it's the same airplane in 1952 when she was shipped from sweden to Israel. She's only waiting for "3506" to be painted below the stabilizers. The grey wing is from an Airfix Mustang that finally will become "Twilight tear", her first appearance.
I have to say that either Airfix was better in my old days (late -70's), or I've become pickier. The halves were bent, twisted and soft, and the panel lines didn't match from left to right. But she'll do for NMF-practice anyway.
See you around. And by the way, PolarBear, there might be a Vampire from here too. I've bought a loose pack of models, including 3 different Vampires, and I can't do all of them Swedish, now can I?

Hi all.
I think Bethyns got this campaign idea a bit confused.
You dont have to build all the suggested kits yourself Andy :-) :-)
At this rate Andys going to have his own Suez Crisis when SWMBO realises she has no space in the house anymore!
Youd better think about selling a fishtank Andy
2 more weeks and Im home and I can make a start on my Sea Fury

The plane bug got me...
... my AFV collegues fear I'm stepping over to the dark side...
I'm still strugling wit the Venom interior, but
I obtained 2 1:72 Heller kits on a local auction site; a Vampire FB5 (I love these jets!) and a T6-G Texan.
Now try to find some decals for them.
Dus, that gun looks great! That's gonna be an awsome LVT4!

Thanks Paul,
That turret has been a pig to put together!
The LVT is assembled so now I just have to paint it all, add stowge, make some figures and put it into a diorama sea base. Yikes!!!

Hey folks!
I just wanted to let you know that I ordered Italeri M4A1 Sherm
which I eventually turn into Israeli M50, thanks to John
aka DRAGONWAGON who has sent me his spare M50
turret .
I will still have to get some T54E1 steel chevron tracks for this
one, and maybe some pressed spoked roadwheels to mix
them with open spoked cast wheels as in the Italeri kit.
Cheers

Thanks Grant. your MiG has an interior and a engine, where mine had a seat, that's it just a seat not even a instrument panel .
Can't wait to see your MiG finished, looks very promising so far.
Keep up the good work campaigners.

007: Does this mean that you're entering an Egyptian vampire and an Israeli Texan - or will it be Syrian Harvard (= might be accepted)?
If I can find the right decals... YES!
Than I'm going for the grand slam!
But it's not official yet; as I said, first I need to find the decals...
