but why make more of the same aircraft? The Wyvern squadron seems to be able to fix that by themselves :-)

I am leaving the Wyvern squadron, moving ship to HMS Bulwark and will be entering an Avenger instead for a British entry! I have been contemplating this for some time and LongKnife´s remark really tipped the scales! :-)

I have also found an old Mach 2 HUP-2, which I will build as a Pedro. I have seen better models but I will at least give it a try!

For an egyptian entry, I am waiting for Eduard´s long awaited MiG-15...

No T-6 update due to lack of progress, I've spent time playing trumpet and gardening lately. Hopefully some progress next week!

Hi all!

Björn, I started the Avenger and here are the first build pictures...

Overall, the Mach 2 kit is pretty bad I know I shouldn't say that because it's a French kit but it's really poor both in detail and moulding. Anyway, trying to make the best ouf it will be fun and I already made a new vacuformed canopy because the injected one was way too thick. Maybe I'll regret it later because the cockpit is ugly and it would probably have been better to hide it under the kit's "Panzerglas".
Thank you again Björn for giving me the opportunity to build this "gem". I think I know why you sent it back to France! :-)

I hope it's OK to enter my ground target of a French M47 from the 1956 Suez campaign?

Hi all!

Just a little update on my Avenger build. Still a lot of filler to send away!

Hi TedMamere

Will that be a French Naval plane?
Will it be difficult to get the panel lines back after filling and sanding?
I don't often build aircraft myself and have wondered how aircraft modellers get everything smooth and detailed again in places like wing roots where there are curves.

Cheers

Hi Dus!

Yes, it will be a french Naval plane with Yellow&Black stripes of course.
As for getting the panel lines back, well... I have the following technique: filling, sanding, rescribing, priming, filling again, sanding again, rescribing again, priming again etc... until it looks good enough! :-)

Your diorama base looks good! What did you use to make the underlayer? Plaster? I suppose the blue color is the first coat of paint and after that you will add the water product. Will you use clear resin? I know I ask a lot of questions. But I'm not curious, I just wan't to know! :-)

Hi Jean-Luc

So it is just lots of hard work to get the panel lines back, no magic techniques. :-)

The base is built up from polystyrene with plaster on top. I mixed paint into the plaster and some glue to make sure that if there were any chips it wouldn't show up.

I have some clear cast resin to use next when it dries, I will experiment and paint in some different shades before pouring it on.

I will post some more pics soon

Sweden - England 2-2

All Swedes n' Brits are excused if they've been unable to work on their projects the last couple of hours... What a second half!

And now we have to meet Germany on their home turf... yikes!

Well, Dus - There is one magic technique that works pretty well with smaller gaps. It's called filling without sanding and can be found here.

Your Lvt4 is starting to look really great now. Have you given any more thoughts about adding a couple of figures? How about one swimming? (see my diorama here) Albeit, my diorama depicts more peaceful times...

What! No folded wings!?!

Just kidding! Looks like you're already up to your neck with some pretty tough work, my friend. A la bonheur! It is good to see in progress pictures that really show of the despair of the not so perfect kits. Give it your best, and I'm sure that you'll achieve a great end result!

It will look really nice next to your F4U Corsair. How about a small diorama on board the La Fayette?

Bring it on, Gary! Welcome to the campaign!

EDC - Sans markings and sans romp! I would love a close-up of the cockpit if possible. The detail looks so nice!

Can anybody give a good advice... should i be PC and correct structural flaws, och just go with the fun part - detailing?

My advice is to go for the detailing if that is your cup of tea (as long as you'll be happy with the end result).

Vanize!!! Great to have you back! Go easy in the beginning. Remember - you have a tough duel comming up in November!

I was certain that Andy would have finished a couple of more kits by now... Hmm, he must have been watching the game instead...

Personally, I'm making slow but good progress on my aircrafts. The cockpit detail is amazing in both kits, but for some odd reason there where no seat harness for the Vampire! I'll fix! Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to fix my camera yet. I hope to post pictures soon!

Cheers!

What game :-) .
I haven't progressed with any kits at all since the World cup started, as i have watched every game so far
I now have the decals for the remaining 2 kits, i just need a break in the footie to be able to do anything :-) .
All the entries are looking good so far. There is a nice mix of subjects.
Keep up the good work fellow campaigners.

By the way....we aren't being graded on this are we?

Thanks for the link, really cunning, I think that will be useful for AFV's too.

I like the idea of the swimmers but I don't think it would work on this piece, I do intend to build a figure or two, just want to get the main bits nailed first.

Thanks for the info Pedro but I didn't see a reference to "when the build was started" in the rules. One of the models I entered is something I started after the campaign began and another is one that was a work in progress although I started it before the campaign began (the M47). As the subject is one of the themes I build in anyway, I thought I would include builds for the sake of the subject matter. Please let me know if I am in compliance and I will make any changes necessary.

Many thanks to PolarBear for creating a campaign for one of my favorite subjects and good luck to you all.

Hi Gary! One of the basic rules of the Armorama campaigns is that the entries should be built during the campaign period. I believe in the "live and let live"-rule (we are doing this for fun, right!?), so if you started dry fitting a little early or even assambled a couple of parts before April 28th - no sweat! The entry will be welcome. However, if the tank was more than half way completed, then you might want to sign in with a new subject as your official entry. There is still plenty of time, as the campaign goes on until October 28th (more than four months away!). Hey, we still lack British armour!!!

Ps. I saw your gallery photos! I'd appreciate if you want to post some of your Suez-related work here, even though it will not be official entries. Your work is quite inspirational!

Cheers!

OK Ok OK........ :-)
So here is where my P-51 stands right now.
The strip decals with the kit won't work because they are made to fit in the wrong places, so I'm having to paint on the yellow and black stripes. The yellow is already applied and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do the black stripes now. With any luck I should have this baby all finished up in a couple of weeks. Yes, the camo is airbrushed freehand and it's not the greatest job anyone has ever done but for my skill level I'm pretty happy with it so far. Any comments or advice from you guys will be appreciated.

EDIT: Hopefully by the time this build is finished I'll have a better camera and be able to provide some more detailed pictures.

Hi Hermon!

I see nothing wrong with the freehand camo!
It looks very good to me. The colors seem to be the right shades and the surface seems to be even. Don't be to rude on yourself! :-) But in another way, it's the best way to improve!

Looking forward to see it finished... soon!

Hi again. No update now, but my T.55 Vampire has been started. I will throw my ideas of correcting the fuselage overboard, along with the cockpit colour. Black cockpits are boring!

VonCuda! Nice camo. One of these days I'll have to get an airbrush. I rely on Tamiyas cans right now, so I'll have to mask.

I hadn't decided wether to go with the greenish blue as shown on most profiles, or the more blue colour as painted on the Israeli musei-Mustangs, but your looks so "out in the field" so I'll stick to that too.

Nice one.

Thank you very much PolarBear for your comments and clarification and many thanks to Pedro for pointing out something I wasn't aware of. I will try to take your advice about a British Armor build. As far as your comments that my work is inspirational, you are very kind. I am quite intimidated by the work I see on this site and I wouldn't begin to compare my work to what some of the talented modelers have built here. I prefer not to use an airbrush which limits me to hand painting and weathering. Some of the builds I see here regularly are really incredible and this site is extremely enjoyable. I am still learning from you guys here so again thank you to all!

Good luck to everyone on a very satisfying campaign!!!

Hey Gary

Don't feel intimidated mate.

This site is for everybody and all different approaches and skills, not for comparison but for showing and talking about what we are modelling or interested in.
I must say I find this one of the friendliest model sites and I have received alot of help from people here.

Get stuck in and lets give those wingy things some more targets!

VonCuda - Hi Hermon! I have to agree with Jean-Luc! You're being way to hard on yourself. In my view, the P-51D looks great! The camo gives it a very different look than the OD and the NMF! I'm really look forward to all the Mustangs in this campaign!
&:)

gbkirsh - Gary! If your thinking of British armour, then perhaps this site can be of help.

Then again, there are plenty of Egyptian subjects still missing (T-34, Sherman, Su-100 etc)... Check the list!

Cheers!

Well, here is what I have managed to do so far on my Tamiya FB VI Mosquito:

I have sandwiched the True Details cockpit inside. Note the control stick isn't really painted yet and the pilot's seat is still absent (it sticks up and is fragile, so I am leaving it out till I get the canopy on.

Niiize cockpit Vanize. I love cockpits, but I guess I'll have to do a few more until I dare climb in them with the camera

Is she going to be NMF or blue-brown? I frankly don't realize what the reason for the blue-brown camo was, because the planes ought to stick out more than they blend in, but with yellow stripes and a red spinner, they do look awsome.
