Ardennes 1944 - Ridin High!

So, now only that Peiper group. I painted this complete after the example as printed on the back of the box. Figure 1 is painted Humbrol 149. Figure 2 has camo pants on paint in Humbrol 186, 84 and 29. His sheep leather coat is painted in Humbrol 63. Figure 3 was just painted black, Humbrol 33. And figure 4 is wearing a black panzer jacket, Humbrol 33, and camo pants painted in Humbrol 105, 120, 29, 155. Facial parts done again like described before.

Now everything what was to be in the diorama was finished. In the nightly hours I added all the accessories to the figures, like cantines, gasmasks, weapons, sigarets, goggles on one of the Jägers etc etc etc. So now I had all the figures and vehicles to place ready, only the base. This can be an easy task because with an Osprey book as guide, I can do this in a fairly easy manner.
The higher side were made with polystyrene foam which I coated with the ubiquitous railroad static gras from a bag. I used 2 different colors for it, a light and a dark green. Then I made the muddy road. First I coated the road part with un-thinned wood glue and sprinkled over used ground coffee. Then made the hedgerow from coconut fiber. This was made by making a cut in the enbankment and pushing in the coconut fiber.

When this was all done, I very controversially spray painted the whole with the airbrush loaded with oilpaint. There’s a thinner here on the market by Talens that is especially for oil paint. By opening the nozzle of the airbrush a little further you can spray it fairly well. The colors I used for this were Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna. Because of the thinning the paint does not cover 100% on the coconut fibre but it does on the static grass so the grass gets a nice green brown color. The road parts are just painted with Raw Umber so that you get an extra texture to the road surface.
