1⁄35Ardennes 1944 - Ridin High!
Now I could continue my tank. But fate struck. The head of my airbrush, the
fine head, failed. So, I had to postpone spraying until I had the time to head
into town to buy a new airbrush head assembly. To keep from falling to far
behind I started putting together the Fallschimjäger. Putting them together was
not really difficult but because there were suddenly so many I lost the big
picture. In the end I assembled all the figures one by one to keep the overview.
For the Jägers’ camo coats I used the following Humbrol colors: For figure 2
from box 2 nos. 102, 186, 93. For figure 3 from box 1 nos. 63, 105,98. For the
remaining figures the coats are painted in Humbrol colors nos. 63,105,98 but
this scheme is different than the one on figure 3 from box 1.
The camouflage pattern for the remaining figures is a hard-edged, square
continues shape, while the camouflage patterns on the other two figures have a
more feathered appearance. The pants on all the Jägers are painted in Humbrol
155. The deeper parts of the paints are painted in a darkened Humbrol 155 and 33
(flat black - ed.) mixture. The higher parts are drybrushed with a lightened
Humbrol 155 and 34 (flat white – ed.) mixture. To give the Jägers’ coats a
greener appearance, I gave them a wash of Tamiya Forest Green (XF-49)
afterwards. This is ideal because the paint is an acrylic and you can thin a lot
but it will still give the needed effect. The faces and hands received the same
treatment as the tank crew. When this was all ready after a week of hard work in
the evening hours, I went by the shop in the day time after my normal work for
the fine head assembly for my airbrush.
And then you have a look at the shelves and you find something…. in this case a
kit by Academy, box no. 1377, German Infantry set ‘Battle of the Bulge 1944’.
Don’t think about it and buy the thing…
