I got mine a couple weeks ago but I think I've got a bit of a problem with them. There were three paper instruction sheets: one with the decal layout, one with the decal placement on the four rail trucks, and then a duplicate of the truck placement sheet. Is there one that shows where decals #15 thru #19 and a few others go? I've tried emailing Peddinghaus thru Ebay where I bought them but the language barrier is apparently insurmountable. Can any of you guys help me out here with the missing sheet. I'll gladly pay for a scanned copy by email or a snail-mail paper one.

I agree the quality of these decals is quite good but trimming them will be pretty difficult as the white images are REALLY hard to see against the background release paper. At least mine are. Maybe its just my old eyeballs. Anyway, I'm half-way tempted to buy four PanzerKorps K5e 1/144 kits just to get enough decals for my 1/144 Dora.

Hi Rgeraci,
Are we talking about the 1/35th or 1/144th here? Mine are the 1/35th.
I've got a similar problem in that I have the correct instructions but they cut the top of the page off although you can easily work out which are which.
I'll see if I can scan them and post them here...

Yes, the 1/35th ones have the instruction issue. I wasn't very clear about that was I. I'm about to build the 1/144 version as kind of a test bed before I tackle the 1/35 one and I think it will look a little bare without some kind of markings. I'll scan my one good 1/35 sheet as well and maybe between the two of us we'll have a full set.

Well, here is the #2 instruction sheet. Mine is missing the very, very, top and is slightly washed out on the right side but still useable.

Rick

I just mailed you the PDF for the missing page. I can't seem to get it to come up on here so maybe you could post it for the benefit of everyone else.

You know what the strange thing is about this kit? I was at a model show in Belgium a few weeks ago. There were two retailers selling this kit. One guy for 480 Euro's and one guy for 540 Euro's. That is a 60 Euro difference! For those who don't know how much a Euro is: A modern 1/35 Dragon kit costs about 35 Euro over here.

lesson to be learned: always compare prices before you buy

cheers,

Thanks, lain. Here is the sheet scanned to a JPG. I couldn't get a PDF up here either. Glad to help out anyone else crazy enough to tackle this beast.

Good job Rick

For the record those hand written numbers and arrows are mine since the originals were cut off at the top of the sheet....you would think for the cost of the decals that Peddinghaus would at least check their copier once in a while....
Then again I'm still mystified why Soar Art couldn't include decals in the first place as they must constitute the cheapest component in the kit.

I'm quite fortunate in that my modeling room is upstairs over a three car garage. I have the Dora currently on a 8 foot folding table at one end of the room. It stands out quite well and is low enough that you can see it. Other than that maybe there is hope for some museum that would like to have it.

The bad news is that the Taube book is now officially out of print. I've written to Motorbuch Verlag in Germany to bring the new kit to their attention in the hope that they might reprint it.

Here's a very useful link to a Potuguese site for all of us who can't wait for an aftermarket set.
This guy is doing a sterling job the oldfashioned way with plasticard and wire...

Thanks to all that have viewed this thread and have commented on the build. I always encourage comments as they help me become a better modeller. I offer again that I will do close ups of any area of the model you want.
I would also like to hear about anyones experiance with the decals from Germany.

Thanks again,
Tom Moon

All you have you have to do is buy her something of equal value.
This will make it a very expensive kit.
You might have to add a room onto the house so you can display it.
Hmmmm, the cost of this model is getting very expensive.
Maybe some day some computer software vendor will come up with a virtual model building program. Just think of the perfection you can accomplish in that environment.
Oh Well! that is what dreams are made off.

Good Luck with she who must be obeyed.

Hey Tom, you did a really great job there....
As for the German decals all I can say at the moment is that they seem to be well printed with register good on the two-colour ones.
The only downside seems to be having to carefully cut them out as they are printed on one continuous carrier film.
I'm thinking of substituting them where possible with the Archer rub-down set produced for the ordinary flatcars....Archer AR35087...you would need to buy 4 sets obviously but at $4.95 a set this probably works out cheaper than the Peddinghaus set if you are ordering stateside.
Maybe if we all petition Archer we can get them to release an expanded set?

Hello again,

Well, I've finally got round to starting my build - "Oh S**t - what have I done". This thing is really a monster. I guess that it's going to be a case of taking 1 bite of the elephant at a time. I think the thing that really brought it home to me was my son's comment (a 12 year old who I'm building it with) who said - "Dad, it's bigger than me !!!." - he's not wrong - I hink I'm going to increase my carbon footprint just by the amount of paint I'm going to need for this thing.

To this end, I've started a "refresher course" on model building - with a Tamiya Sd.Kfz 251 Ausf D 'Hanomag' and a Tamiya Pak40/L46 anti tank gun that I want to include in the base setting for the model. I know it's not on the same scale, but I haven't built ANYTHING for the last 25 years, so this beast is a bit of a jump.

When I did used to build models, something like this would have been a dream (or a nightmare, depending how you look at it). However, "In for penny, in for a pound", as we say over this side of the pond, so I'll try my best to do it justice.

Anyway, thanks to all of you for the information and tips featured on this page. I'll take them on board and try to do you justice over the next several months .

Regards

Jim

I will be leaving the photos up for about 2 more weeks. I then need to delete some to make room for new photos of my next build.
That is unless someone has a better spot to place the photos other than the space available here on Armorama which is limited.
Thank you all for your comments especially the ones that we help me become a better modeller.

Regards,
Tom Moon

Page 30 Step 16 - There are two large wheels (G8) shown attached to the frame (L8) but when you actually get the parts together there are no locating pins or marks.

Could you use the small holes in the sides of L8 at the front and insert some rod through to act as an axle for the front wheel (G8)?

How about the rear "wheel", just wing-is location at the rear of the frame?
Maybe it's a spare and just sitting there for storage, and the front one is the working one?

How about part C4 (still step 30) where does that joker go?

Are any of these details shown in the Taube book?

Thanks
