Yes, the platform is for breaching through second story windows. And I do have several photos of the inverter, but my computer and I are separated for the next several days. If you install the inverter there's a small roof plate you need to add from .005 syrene. I've got photos of that as well. I'll get them to you when I can. I can tell you that to do the finned heat sinks on the back of the inverter, .010 x .020 and .010 x .040 sandwiched several times works well.
Glad you guys like the photos. As for the radio, you'd have to ask a commo dude. I just thought the thermite grenades (note the initiators) were noteworthy.
I never paid attention to which version of the HMMWV these are based on, but I'll be using the Tamiya kit and just doing the best I can with it.
I should have some M1165 photos soon enough. I don't know if I want to use the MiG M1114 for that or just do it myself. It seems kind of expensive for something I hope won't be too difficult. It's just a matter of having the time.
Note step on rear of this one:

By the way, thanks MattF1 for uploading that video and posting the link. I've also uploaded it on Photobucket under mattegblack.

Glad I could help. Simply repay me by updating your blog when you can. This is a fascinating thread to read. Do you happen to work around these hummers for a living? How do you get these amazing pictures?

Ok Matte, holiday's over. You must have received your tread plate by now and I'm in need of a fix, so how's about a peak at where you're at with your builds???;o)

Well, the "vacation" is over I guess. Without boring you with the details, my personal computer with my pics on it was in one country, my modeling supplies on another pallet were in another, and I was here, with no access to my mail. Accurate Armour delivered my order promptly as always, but had it not been for a ring flight, I still would not have gotten it. The closest mailbox is two hours away. Anyway, here are pics of the inverter for you:
The mini-gun ammo feeds through the turret opening into one of three large (40mm) ammo cans with a special lid. i don't have photos of it but just feed it into the top. Put a triangular shaped piece across the lid about .040 thick, from one corner to the other.
Now that I have my stuff, I'l try to get going on my projects, if time will permit.

Great to hear from you again, and you remembered my inverter pics very nice of you to post these. The best shots of this item I've seen. I only knew it was there because Jan Goos said there was one there in a picture he'd sent me and I could only see the corner of it. This is the ultimate inverter walk around, should be on Prime Portal!
I'm in a similar limbo though I have some rudimentary modeling stuff with me, it is never like my home shop where I have all my gismos.
I'm sure there will be a lot of folks interested to see you back in the saddle again and I for one look froward the development of your builds.
Regards

Now I have a question I hope you guys can help me with. Does the Eduard PE for any of the HMMWV kits have the rivet strips as shown below? As Boggie said, I don't have my gizmos with me either, or I would emboss rivets on the back of a strip of brass with my riveting tool. (gear off of an old Tamiya tank gearbox)

I don't have my Eduard PE for the M1025 with me but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have the bit you've indicated in that set.
http://www.eduard.cz/ and search for M-1025 and you can see each etched sheet and or download the instructions (I'm sure you know about this though.
I wish I could have been of more help.

What the Eduard kit contains is two little "sheets" of PE for the cargo area sides. Those sheets have the rivet strips youre looking for incorporated in them. Hope that answers your question.

William and Gary, thanks for the info. I know about Eduard's site. The problem is that I'm using something we affectionately call "Haji Net." It is to the world of telecommunication what Afri-Cola is to the beverage industry. Needless to say, it is EXTREMELY slow, so sometimes searching for something or even getting the site at all is a daunting proposition. Add to that the fact we only have one computer to share among several guys... It's one of the reasons I can only post a few photos at a time now.
Anyway, I can't believe I forgot to add this photo last time. It shows the wiring from the inverter. It runs down the B pillar and disappears underneath the seat:
I had an opportunity to work a little on the CIF HMMWV last night. I may have time tonight as well (16 hours days are really cutting into my modelling time!) and if I do I'll post some progress shots.

Can I ask where you are? You said in one of your post that to find out what the radio was I'd have to ask a "cammo dude", so I assumed you were not military.
Off Topic but I have a similar issue with bandwidth here in the Canadian Arctic. The company pays a flat rate for so called high speed and when we use up our alloted data transfer we go to dial up. One of the guys spends off hours downloading movies and music so our account is usually dial up.
Thanks for the new inverter picture, very helpful and much appreciated considering your circumstances. I look forward to updates on your multiple builds, good luck.

Thanks Chris. I may have to look into some night when it's not busy.
Her's the latest on the CIF HMMWV. The hardest parts are done. Everything was based up opon success here. If the turret ring doesn't look good on this one, ther's no point going further, as it's pretty much the focus of the vehicle:
The rail system was actually pretty easy. Everything lines up in the same angles as the real thing:
The ring installed, but removable.

I see you have your trusty frag grenade and smoke can close by your modeling table just in case you're interrupted... nothing like handy scale references eh ;0)
Nice job on the weapons ring, can't wait until the next installment.
Chris, which Lion Roar set are you referring to, for the M1025?

I forgot to add that all of the interior recesses for the windshield had to be filled in, as the newer windshield will protrude forward from the existing frame. That's why you see the white strips.

Yep- I started working on an uparmored Humvee and used that set for the general details - well worth the $.

Busy day today-no modelling. But I thought I'd post photos of the interior armor I used for my builds. Use .005 sheet for the framing over .020 sheet for the armor.
By the way, is anyone else thinking of doing the CIF HMMWV? If so, I can save you some time by telling you the dimensions of each material to use. (Unfortunately not the actual dimension of the real item, as I just like to eyebell it.

What exactly does CIF stand for. I did do a search and what I got was an armour upgrade, is that about right? Yours however look a lot more than a simple armour upgrade. A lot of work to armour the interior walls isn't it?
I have sent you a PM.
Thanks for the posts the images are great.

She's really starting to take shape Matt, your scrathbuilding ability is impressive. On the roll bars, how did you bend them without kinking.

Joe-I curved the roll bar over a small radius and then held it close (but not too close) to a heat source until it stayed where I wanted it. Sometimes you get lucky and if the radius is large enough you can bend it farther than necessary and it springs back to just where you want it. Thanks for the comments guys. Work starts on the 1151 tonight.

Here's a final shot of what needs to be done for the power inverter on the GMV. Only the ones with the inverter have this plate on top:
Boggie, I hope to have those measurements for you soon. That's going to be quite the undertaking.

Good detail reference I remember you mentioned this hatch a while back. Inadvertently you answered another question I've had for some time, how the extended ammo rack attaches to the weapons ring, BONUS!
Off topic sorry
I know I know, I feel bad asking for those measurements, I wouldn't blame you for blowing me off, that's a lot to ask.
BUT if you do do them it'll be a first.
I've asked Matte to measure up a HMMWV frag 5 door so I could more accurately scratch one. It is a complex bit of steel.
Many thanks to you and Frenchy who has been working behind the scenes sourcing photos to assist in my quest.
Regards
