Boggie-I hope you didn't misunderstand. Your projects sounds like a big undertaking, not the act of measuring the doors for you, which is no problem.

Frag 5 Doors:

Top to bottom, not including the small plate the overlaps the top edge: 3'5". This is the height of the main armored plate.

The width of the front door: 2'8".

The width of the rear door, from the front, to the short vertical portion at the rearmost part of the door: 3'2".

The entire window assembly for both doors is identical-1'8" wide x 2'6" high.

The interior glassed part is 1'2" wide x 1' high.

I'd really be interested in seeing your progress on these.

I understood, but I also know that there is a limit that one can ask another for such specific information. It takes time, proximity and willingness to do this kind of research, you are have demonstrated all three and then then some. There is a general willingness here at this forum, it must attract that in some people. Unfortunately lots of this information is one way, those that know share with those that don't know. Hopefully I will be able to share back.
Many thanks for the measurements, this is above and beyond. The closest I've ever been to a HMMWV is at a rest stop in Maine when a transport truck went by with two as load going 60 mph. They are kind of iconic machines that represent an era and an effort as well as a basis for development which has proven to be extraordinary.
When I get something that resembles these door you will be the first to see them.
This is like an early Christmas present.
Bill

Boggie,
That's pretty much it. Just make sure that your 3'5" height measurement extends up behind that thinner strip across the top. If you need a close up shot I can probably get one today.

How wide is that upper trim piece (A) and by how much does it cover the door, a guestimate will be good. What is the thickness from the base armour of the door to the thickest part of the armour (B). This image show the profile pretty well.
Photobucket
Jamie there was an issue (security) why the base M1114 couldn't be posted on Prime Portal, don't know the details, but there is certainly quite a few images of this Frag 5 configuration on the web.
Sorry for jumping your thread Matte, I am very interested to see how your build(s) are coming along.
Thanks for your patience Matte.

Boggie,
That top piece is four inches high, 1/4 inch thick, and overlaps the thick armor plate by 7/8 inch.

Now, I said I'd start on the 1151, but events have hindered that. Here though is what I was able to do the last two nights. First I was going to start by mentioning my lack of materials, but after seeing where Boggie is, I'll never complain again. That said, I did have to revert to using this for the fire suppression system:

Here are my interior pics so far:

And finally the interior itself:

I had to make the angle for the rack on the A/C unit with .030 and .040 strip because I don't think Evergreen makes it that small. Even if they do, it would take ages to get.
I'm not going whole hog on the interior because most of it won't be visible. I have decided to leave at least one door open though, in order to view the excellent commo gear by Pro Art Models. I guess that's the next step.

Looks like it's coming along good! Nice find on that fire extuingisher! Scratchbuilding is always a lot of fun! Try to find the right piece in the right place!

Excellent interior. In place of evergreen you might think about using spare brass PE or even paper with a little elmers. I've used both and they work great for making thin strips.

Good to see that you get time to model. This is the first interior I've seen of the 1151, is this a straight up example or an SF vehicle you're representing. Ingenious use of local materials! As always looking forward to your next installment.
I posted 2 views of my Frag 5 WIP this evening so not to jack your thread anymore, and thanks very much for your help.

I'm no expert on HMMWV's by any means, but I do see that CF use the anti-sniper netting on their turrets while SF do not. The benefits of superior situational awareness far outweigh the remote possibilty of getting your grape shot. (Now a googlemaniac will provide us with photos of SF vehicles with the netting, which is fine) As for the actual vehicle, in typical SF fashion, some have been reworked, ie. straight through exhaust with busted out catalytic converter, and some other minor, but visible mods.

Nice work, do you have any more images of the SF and Ranger Hummers with mini-gun?
I have been searching for a few years for good images and these are the best to date, Thanks a million. Mrosko

I saw your reply to another post so I knew you've surfaced back to your model table again. I'm almost ready to show you the glass turret top you so kindly provided the pics and dimensions for, thanks again for that.
How's your M1151 coming along?

Hi Bill. Yes, I'll hopefully have a little modeling time in the near future. No new developments on any of my stuff. I do look forward to seeing any of your newest scratchbuilds.

Nice.
I didn`t know, thah US has some MG3 machines guns. I mean, you can see a barrel of that on the back side of the turret. Is the MG mounted on the humwee? Looks like it is to me .

You are correct on the MG3 . It's mounted on the back of the turret as a supplement to the M2. Take a look at the body armor. These guys aren't just any US soldiers. They pretty much have access to anything out there.

Matte Black you're back!
Good to see you're in the land of the living. Great photo, bristling with gun barrels, what an inspiration for a model. How are your all projects coming along? I can't wait to see what you've done in the last three months.

If you see what I've done in the past three months, I think you'll be sorely disappointed. However, my long awaited Lion Roar etch sets, having nearly circumnavigated the globe, are finally here. Thanks for the tip on that set, whoever it was. A couple of bucks for this much PE is definitely a bargain. Too bad more people don't trust Ebay.
I'll sift through the three frets and decide what to use and what not to use, and probably have some more pics up in a few days. I may have to build a mount for an MG3 now.

I'm anxious to see what you've been up to. I think it was Rob that turned me onto Lion Roar, as a result I have a couple on hand just in case. Have you a MG3 in your stash or are you scratching that too?

Dumb question why an MG3, high rate of fire?

That is funny, I was thinking of your 1/35th scale stash, but a full size one would do a better job in 1:1 scale...
Is that a 240 B there in your stash? It would be nice to see a walk around of that weapon or any other of your stash that you'd care to show off.
Does the MG3 use different ammunition (belt fed right?) than the 240 or is it standard Nato rounds too?

Yes, the MG3 does have a pretty high rate of fire - something on the order of 20 rounds per second. And the problem there is... ?

It fires 7.62 NATO.

No, it's a 249. But I have a few 240B's lying around. A walkaround would be a nice thing, but you might find a better one at one of those defense sites. I just like to bring you the not often seen stuff, to wit:

And as you will remember, Haji Net is not very user friendly. I can do about a photo at a time before I either fall asleep or have to leave.
I'll post more if it interests you, but hopefully will get back to modeling too. I have to admit, I do get some cool stuff. I can always mount other goodies on the turret for more interesting projects...

No, don't worry about the 249, I'd rather wait for the unusual stuff you always seem to find. I can sympathize about the speed of your internet, our is slow as well. Tomorrow I'll be home to high speed again and warmer weather.
I look forward to your next SF images.
