Great start on the scratchbuilding, love the rear bumper. Will you also scratch up the rest of the Hummer. Looking forward to your next post.

Looking good! The rear bumper looks very smart-some nice scratch work you've done there!
If my curreny build times are anythign to go by, this will be long finished by the time my dumvee is anywhere near done

Matte are you using a photo as a reference? I have a similar (slighter) bumper from the Pro Art Dumvee set and it is installed upside down compared to yours. There is probably HMMWV's out there that have rear bumpers anyway you could imagine anyway.

Your humvee looks like it is going along quite well. It is always good to see another humvee build and I do hope to see more. If you should need help, just ask. There is quite a wealth of humvee knowledge here.

Appreciate the comments so far. Here's the latest, and yes, I plan to scratchbuild as much as feasible. The ProArt stuff is nice, but sometimes doing it yourself is therapeutic.
I'm still waiting on the diagonal alternating bar treadplate from Accurate Armour. It will make up the bin covers at the ends of the bumper.

Ah. Now I see wht you meant. I thought you meant the bumper was upside down, but it's actually the shelf. Your photo shows why I chose to scratchbuild it. The ProArt sets are VERY nice, contrary to a review I read . I have had no issues with any of my ProArt stuff, either in casting, warping, or broken parts. But the one thing I wanted to change was the size and spacing of the shelf brackets. I wanted to show the bolt detail for the mounts. The ProArt brackets are too small and narrow, but it's not usually an issue, as you can see in the photo below, they're all but hidden underneath the shelf.

I assumed your rear bumper shelf (left) was glued to the model. You had it posed to show the details, I thought it was a permanent fixture. The shadow under the upside down tray made it look attached. So you are building two Dumvees at the same time then?
My Pro Art rear braces for the tray were full of bubbles and distorted (and small) likewise the braces for the gunners stand, the end of the antenna mounts. A little TLC though and they look fine.
What's happening to the front passenger seat?
Keep us posted, it is looking very clean.

I'm actually doing three, possibly a fourth (as one would invariably be down) and am keeping the shelf as pictured. As for the seat, I had to grind off the cushion as it was already cemented in and didn't want to comeout. All of the front seats are being replaced with Ceradyne armored seats.

Well I'll be darned and I stand corrected. That is a wild step up if I ever saw one. I guess all that design work to establish the high ground clearance on the HMMWV was lost on this little modification. I will keep my eyes open on these builds and thanks for posting the picture, it's going into the "variants" file.

By designation, there are about 30 everything from the original M998 (which still are being used suprisingly) to the newest M1151/52s. Then there are a few foreign vehicles that are near direct descendents of the humvee chassis. The beauty of the humvee is its adaptablilty to nearly any job, most of which were unintended by its designers which means there are so many variants.
Matte, if you have any other detail shots of the SF humvees or humvees in general, please dont hesitate to show them. Most of us love to see new photos.

Thanks. Yes, four is the goal so far. I've decided to stick with a total scratchbuild on the fourth. The trick will be giving each vehicle its own character, but still keeping them reasonably similar to keep them within a team's SOP. The different weapons will make for good diversity.
The major scratchbuilding is done. Now all that's left is the tedious small stuff. By the way, I built a few Academy kits long ago, but no Tamiya ones as of yet.

You're a very tidy modeller. I was looking at that Mini gun but only had the Jessie James program to base the vehicle on, I haven't seen any photos of it in the field yet, though I have no doubt it's there. Can you show us some of your previous Academy HMMWV's?

Nice collection of resin, I always wanted to try one of those Pro Arts SF sets, they look nice. How about them mini gun sets, are they worth it. Is the resin nice, clear and straight. Looking forward to seeing more.
