I recall attempting a build of this scale earlier in the year, though sadly the attention to detail I was striving for meant that my patience was beaten down after a while.

Where did you get the tiny letters from, I want some!

You can get some Aber´s PE for lettering, or Archer´s decals (they did not work well in this case for me) I simply made silicone mould and got the letters as resin castings, then I used them on the crane. Working with them was much easier than with this size PE´s, however the whole head casting will have to be checked, corrected and finally used to get a new mould for perfect casting (I´ ll do this in the future, for my build is good enough casting I am getting tonight, because my water crane is gonna be older, weather worn one).

All right, here we go, I have got finally first castings for the water crane, the results are absolutely cracking. All pieces look just perfect, and there wont be much cleaning. The feeders can be cut off using the knife, and then just light polish with sand paper. Work with resin parts can be done even without much mess. Similar kit in styrene could hardly bring out this level of details without production difficulties.

Libor, I've been watching this since you were working on just the railcars, and the whole time I've been amazed at how much effort you put in to get everything right. This whole project is terrific!!
The water crane is absolutely amazing. How you can pull off that kind of detail and that kind of craftsman ship is beyond me.
Keep the posts coming because your work is a true joy to watch.

Bill.

That´s very good!!!
I also have some castings of a scratchbuilt-model, which are non-existent and I´m pleased to build the "kits" into a real model.
Your castings are very good!

And here is the rest. First castings have some flashes, but they wont be there next time, once the mould is checked, how it goes.

That's excellent! You make it look easy (whic h I know it isn't) and hopefully is will lead some more modelers to try scratchbuilding things

very impressive work on the scratchbuilding and the casting look very good, do you use a pressure or vacuum system for casting the resin parts ?

Thank you, Steve. I use vacuum system of making moulds and pressure casting. Truly said, the results are better than most resin kits I had ever in my hands
Now, I have started building my own kit

Thank you, guys, for your kind comments.

Steve, PM answered

Bill I used Aber´s PE lettering, then I got resin casting with letters, which was used on the master for the crane head mould. The application of resing letters was much frindly than PE, but anyway, the lettering will be reworked and fixed on first casting now, and this one will be used to make perfect final mould for the future. For my dio, I will use this one.

JBA, PM sent. Thank you for supporting, in that case I will stick back to my dio work

I have finished my bike today (fresh pictures in my gallery at my website), so I can work harder on the dio again, although there is another kit arrived today, also the dio piece, which I will start soon as well. Just very bad pictures for now.

Nice to see your progress!
I am pleased on it, what I can make with my resin-copies. (3 soviet spacecraft, in another topic)

Thank you, budy. I have checked your topics, that seems to be very interesting idea. I am looking forward to see more.
I´ll be gone for my holidays in two weeks, so I hope to finish the water crane before that, and to get more progress done on my dio. The BR 86 build will begin soon, and that is gonna be cracking one. By the way, I will spend a few days in Germany, some museum visits in my mind, first Bochum, then again Neuenmarkt and finally, if the time allows, Chemnitz - that one should be near to you, isnt it? I suppose a few thousands pictures will be taken

Most parts together, the lamps just dry fitted. Tomorrow I will stick on tension ropes and then start painting with surfacer.

... if the time allows, Chemnitz - that one should be near to you, isnt it? ...
Yes, Chemnitz is "near" from my homecity. Distance to Leipzig is ca. 90 Km (shortest way)
My build with the "copies" would be very difficult, because the lack of good references.
But I´m on the right way, to get a good start for it.

So... back to your build:
Nice to see the progress of your watercrane! It looks fantastic!
Also I´m looking forward, what you make with the BR-86 loco-kit.

greetings...

Hi Libor, I just stopped by to say Hi and tell youwhat a wonderful project you have going on. Can't wait to see it completed. I really liked the outhouse toilet - funny. I also saw that you are going to Germany for a vacation. You probably know about the narrow gauge railroad that goes through the Harz Mountain area. I never saw so many working steam trains at one time in one place EVER! There is 132km of track, 25 steam locomotives. It's a leftover from the DDR/Soviet era. Their logic was it works why modernize it. So we now have a true gift from the cold war era. Have a great trip ! Tom
