I'm really exicted about this one! I did a tour as an MP in Baghdad in '06-'07 and have been waiting for a good reason to do a dio from that tour!

Hello All,
I am going to do a Figure Dio of MP's during WW2. Wish me luck on painting the figures. The last one I tried made Mr. Potato Head look like a work of art.
cheers,

Hello all! As this is my first campaign i am very excited. I am planning a small vignette with one german MP - WWII. The figure is from the MiniArt kit - 1/35 german feldgendarmerie. A sentry box ( scratch built) will keep him company . Good luck to everyone. I'll be back with pics.

Hi guys

Thsi is also my first campaign (well this and another that will be starting soon)

I'm working on an Irish MP CJ3 from the Congo circa 1961 with figures

I'm looking to depict an MP (or two) with an infantry man handing over a mercenary prisoner after the "Battle of the Tunnel".
I'm using some really rare photographs as reference material, I hope it will be an interesting dio when its finished

quick back ground to the dio;
In December 1961 a fresh Irish Contingent of the UN mission the 36th Inf Bn arrived in the country and within two weeks they were involved in the fierce close quarter Battle of the Tunnel, in Elizabethville, during which three members of the unit were killed. The exploits of the Irish troops in taking the Tunnel were recognised by the 14 distinguished service medals awarded to ‘A’ Coy personnel.

I'll post some photos next week and keep updating along the way

This is the kit from MiniArt. I'm doing the one in the center.

I'll post some more as i advance . Cheers

OK guys here's some photos of my contribution to this campaign so far.

I'll attach my reference photos first and then my work, I lost my earlier photos of the Jeep conversion but I'll make up for it from here on in.
I've moved on a little since these photos of my work were taken..

Above Photo of Irish MP in Congo sitting in CJ3 Jeep

Above Photo of Irish MP with Landrover in Congo.

Above photo of Irish Infantry setting up Road Block outside Elizbethville (unknown uniformed man to left of photo)

Above photo Irish Soldiers guarding "The Tunnel" shortly after capturing it

Above: Mercenary Prisoners been taken by Irish Infantry after fighting

Above: Irish troop on Patrol in Congo with Ford Armoured Car NB Helmets
(british type MK.III)

Now here are my model photos. As mentioned earlier I'm depicting a scene after the "Battle for the Tunnel" in 1961. The Dio will consist of three Irish Soldiers including one MP & a mercenary POW.
I have converted a Tamiya willys jeep into a CJ3B variant and have mounted a vickers 303 Machine gun in the rear bed. Although not shown here I have reference to this gun being mounted in the rear during patrols.

I'm also still working on the third Irish figure for the rear bed so stay tuned for that too..

Above: Irish Infantry Soldier

Above: Irish MP

Above: Mercenary POW

Above: rear bed of CJ3B Jeep

Above: CJ3B with Vickers Machine Gun (resicast)

..let me know your thoughts guys, good or bad, I hope to post more photos tommorow night

Hello Roy,
Looks like you have a handle on your build. Thanks for the photo's of the Irish in action, I keep forgetting that they were in the Congo in the 1960's.
Your Jeep looks great, Good looking weathering. Your figures also look interesting, Where did you get the POW one?
Thanks for the update and the photo's.
Cheers,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce!

In regard to the POW its from a verlinden set OIF 2003. I reworked the nose and chin area slightly to produce a western appearance of the figure. The POW will represent a mercenary, most were from European countries including Belgium, France and Germany, not to mention any other hired gun that money could buy back then..

I'll try add more photos later tonight

apologies in advance for poor quality in some photos, they are taken quickly and "on the move"
I promiss finished dio will have proper photos taken with more care and attention

Hope to more updates tommorow

Nice work Roy and good to see Irish Soldiers represented. I like the Carl Gustav SMG. I was an MP in the Irish Army in the 80s and we still used them. Dangerous if you didn't handle them properly as there was no real safety catch on them

Thanks for your comments Pat, Indeed the Gustav was a legend!

..I spent some time in the 2nd Garrison, you'd be surprised if I told you some corps units were still using them up until the turn of this Century. There gone now obviously, Its all Steyrs and H&K these days but not as much fun!

Top class as usual Roy. Although I have to say the guy with the FN looks a wee bit too goofy!

My M1117 Guardian arrived today so work will start real soon......

Hi Guys,
I am jumping in late on this campaign as I am building a WWII US MP with a captured Kettenkraftrad. It's based on this photo:

I have started the figure & building the Tamiya Kettenkraftrad as a quick build getting it ready for the IPMS show in November.
Phew! got my work cut out.
back to the studio (okay the garage )

Blimey,Roy
Your finished before I started! ,
I like the layout of your dio & which Verlinden kit did you get the prisoner from?
I didn't know vicker machine guns were still being used then but doesn't surprise me.
i have laid some paint on to the MP figure & hope to post some progress pics tonight.

Thanks Mark

POW figure is verlinden set from Iraq circa 2004 (ish i think)

As far as I know the British Army only retired their Vickers MG's very late too, dont quote me but I'm sure someone out there has more knowledge of this than me..

post some pics when you can mark, no rush

Hello All,
I contacted the Powers To Be about making this thread a "sticky", Getting a gallery opened for the photo's and helping me get the ribbon loaded. Hopefully it will not take alot of time to get it done.
@ Roy,
Great looking Dio, What are you doing next? I have not even started yet. I like to wait till the last couple of weeks to get mine done. ( I think that the figures look great, To me)
@ Sean,
Welcome to the campaign. Good choice for a MP vehicle.
@ Mark,
Sounds like you have a good plan or your build. Thanks for the photo.
Cheers,
Bruce
