Hello Gents and Gals!

I was thinking about a Korean War Campaign, as this year will be the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War. As we already have a lot of campaigns going I was thinking of making this a 2011 campaign running from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31 2011.

I would like to makte this a Kitmaker Network-wide campaign and at least include Armorama, Aeroscale, MSW and Historicus Forma. In other words the Campaign includes any armor, aircraft, ship or person involved in that conflict between 1950 and 1953, any scale and of course dioramas are welcome. There are lots of options here, with a conflict that involves the last WWII and the earliest Cold War technology.

WWII aircraft carriers with early jets on board, Mustangs and Corsairs next to F-86 and F9F, M4A3E8, M24 and M46 with tiger faces, Centurions and Cromwells, just to get your mouths watered...

I thought about the ribbon of theKorean War Service Medal for an apropriate campaign ribbon.

Anyone interested? Thoughts?

I'd be interested. The long build time works well. Of course, if you moved the eligible dates forward to 1949 I could model my Dad, who drove trucks and guarded airbases during the build-up there and was just stepping ashore Stateside when all the shooting started...

Hmm... If we moved it forward we would have to open it on the other end as well, even more so as officially the Korean War isn't over yet... That way it would include anything North or South Korean plus any nation that had troops there since the armistice. I think that's too much and we should stick to 1950 - 1953. What do you think?

I'd stick with the actual war dates 1950- 53.

If so, I am in. You might want to post a notice over at MSW and Aeroscale for this campaign, You might get some takers with it being a year long. Most ships take 5-8 months to get done. I know of a few members over at MSW that might be interested in this type of campaign.

Yeah, I noticed that typo yesterday but since we can't edit our posts anymore I had to contact Gary, hopefully he will do something about it... Of course I meant 2011...

I was going to see what the people on Armorama thought and then post it over on Aeroscale and MSW. Ships taking a bit longer was one of the reasons I decided to make it a year long campaign. I guess the Korean War isn't so interesting for Armor guys, no Germans...

I would definitely be on for this one. I do not whether I will go for a tank or aircraft, but my support would probably be on the allied side.

Maybe a Sherman, a Panther, a Sabre......

That's ok - I was only kidding about modelling Dad. (He spent the shooting war driving Air Force vehicles up and down the east coast of the US, where the only shooting was Mob-related...)

Shoot, misread the date proposals! I thought you were planning it for this year.

This year I'm doing a Centurion Mk 3 for a show this September but I'd like to do AFV from the North side for next year.

The only thing I don't like about Korean War builds is there is so many choices. I haven't decided but I think I would like to do a vignette with figures. Love that ribbon idea, just hope we don't offend any vets.

Plenty of interesting AFVs available in kit form to choose from

US Forces:
M4A3E8, M26, M46, M16, M40, M24, M8, M20, M36, M7 etc etc

British Army
Centurion, Cromwell, etc

Royal Canadian Army
M4A3E8

Republic of Korea
M24, M36, Captured SU76m ?

North Korea:
T34-85, SU76m, BA-64,

You could even have a group build for operation Ripper,
(M4A3E8s and M46 painted as Dragons and Tigers)

I wasn't sure about that either but I don't think my Grandfather for one would mind. And it's not like we're giving out a real medal...

The Korean War was a UN action, rather than a US one, so as Stefan rightly points out, the UN Korean Medal would be the politically correct one to use and more acceptable.


A quick look in Wikipedia, gives the following countries for the UN forces:

Republic of Korea, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands,
New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand & Turkey

and for the North Korean forces:
Democratic People's Republic of Korea,
People's Republic of China People's
and unofficially the Soviet Union

E8 is good, I think we'll have quite a few M46 (I know Tom (brakingdigger) is planning one and I will do one as well). Lots of Tigerfaces. Anyone in for an M24? I already made one, so I won't do another one...

Howdy Y'all

I hope we can use the ribbon, I think it's a pretty cool idea if we don't offend any vets. I think it 'teaches' rather than 'exploits'. The Korean war had so much hardware and different countries due to it being an UN action.

Anyway, I wished I could make a USAF observer's jeep. My high school math teacher used one when he was a 2nd Lt. in Korea. I just don't know how to do the lettering and marking sequence for the air force vehicles. I just might settle for a Mig 15 although I'm toying with the idea of doing a 1/700 CVL filled with USMC Corsairs. I decided against Tamiya's 1/48 M26 Pershing because it has WWII track links.

One of the biggest gripes of the veterans was that the Korean war was simply forgotten by the public, I have even seen a book about the conflict called "The Forgotten War"

Perhaps we can add this into the campaign title ?

Stefan, I think that I will go with an M 41 since the price of $12.oo is too good to pass up. It saw limited service in Korea to iron out it deficiancies according to Wikipedia. Have you submitted it yet?
