On the Tamiya fuel drum brackets I've done almost the same jobs which you've done

I haven't cut the arms which Tamiya has provided to fix the brackets to the hull

In my opinion they were very good because garanteed a perfect alignment

However i'm sure you'll be able to do a perfect job

:)

Hi Matt

yes thats right, Tamiya did misplace the mounts...may be worthwhile getting a copy of Ospreys modelling the T-55, Nik Cortese did a great job on the engine deck and rear plate etc of a Polish built tank...

Well done!

In my normal infinite stupidity I chose a very awkward way of making it, I started with a plastic tube (a good start, considering its called a snorkel tube), but then instead of just cutting some little circles for the ends and fixing them on, I decided to face the tube with very thin plastic strip, wrapping it around and fixing with ca glue, took flippin ages and was a stupid idea

That's not stupid at all. Maybe to difficult but it does make sense. Personally I've done it gluing little circles, but with your method maybe the concentricity between the tube and his larger edge could be more exact

Every time I look at this thread my jaw drops! The interior of this alone is a masterpiece, pure and simple.

Hi Matt,

I gotta say matt, and it might sound weird, but this is probably the prettiest, and cleanest build ive seen. looks like it would be the box art for an upgrade set or something. just fantastic work matt!

Rather than clean it looks IMPRESSIVE!!

I've rarely seen a model with a similar amounts of extra details and improvments

Regard the cleanness, my Willys jeep is soaked in soap and water now...but I think it won't be as clean as your beast after its wash

Are you doing a Diorama Spider ?

People only do a Willys Jeep when their doing a diorama

Yes, I'm doing a lend & lease Russian Willys. And you guess, I'll insert in a diorama with (probably) a Kv1 tank.

People always do a dio with Willys because it's very small so doing just the model could be not satisfying enough. I' 've been trying to improve the Tamiya kit so, as usual, it will me take ages to finish it ...

About your job, as i told you in my opinion is incredibly good. I notice that you've modified the Tamiya search light, and that actually is one of the (few) flaws of the kit

I have just one doubt about the inner side of the main engine hatches but unfortunately i haven't found reference pics.
I don't know if they are flat and smooth as they look in your model

Anyway, it's just an observation it isn't a criticism.

That's really well done

Cheers

This from about 5 posts back -

"Anyway, engine hatch, this about the 4th time I have attacked the engine hatch and it's about 99% finished, made a few changes, added some bits, and pritty much just sorted it out a bit, the detail on the inner face of the engine hatches is not done yet, I am looking for better pictures, anyway, main changes are -"

....I'm sorry

Hi Matt

Please feel free to add anything you find in your research to the tweaks list i compiled a few years ago... It can be found in the sticky thread on How to build a T-55....

Cheers
Andy

Matt, this has been great to follow your progress.
I have the same kit and CMK sets waiting too, just added 3 sets of PE from Aber and a KMT-5 Mine roller, tracks and metal gun barrel, actually I''m waiting for the last Aber set to start building it, I will review your build over and over before starting my own.

You've made a terrific build so far, extra detailing, clean build, I can't wait to see the paint job.
What scheme will you use ? Russian markings ?

12. Casting texture on the turret is wrong, from looking at photo's all turrets were cleaned up with some kind of machining process or grinding, leaving a sort of wavy machined texture.

Like I said, all just personal opinion, so dont want to start any arguements thankyou very much.

I totally agree with all the points of your list except the number 12

In my opinion Tamiya casting turret texture is very good. You intend that some exemplars looks like this

That is an iron treatment which is always visible on T-62 turrets

But almost all the t-55 pics which I've seen look different

Of course, that's not an argument, just an opinion

Cheers
