Does anyone have any photos or information as to how and what kind of gear would be stowed in the bed of the MATV.

anyone have any pictures? I've caught glances of loaded trucks but you can not really make out whats in the back as its blocked by the spare or plywood/hesco attached to the side.

Here you go gents, sorry for the delay, been in the field for the past week.

The first thing that was on every vehicle was the TALON littler and aid bag. You'll see these on virtually every MRAP. I never saw a truck without one somewhere on it.

Besides that you'll find chock blocks, chains, ammo, MRE cases, tough boxes, coolers, more medical stuff like back boards and litters, folding aluminum cots, civilian style camp chairs/stools, assault packs and ruck sacks for the crew, things like that.

Great thread everyone!

I took a quick skim through just now to see if someone had already inquired about this and I couldn't see it so here goes....

What is the thin white (?) surround on the side windows all about? Is it tape, velcro, part of the window glass/armour?

I've looked and I can't find the answer. Anyone?

Thanks

It's just your perception of the thickness of the glass. Unless there is some type of white tape inside the bracket I'm not aware of, which is of course always possible.

Hmmm...some of the photos in this thread seem to show a white line around the outside edge of the side windows, particularly the drivers and front passenger's glass. This doesn't appear to me to be a perception issue but I'm not in a position to argure the point because I admit that I really don't know much about this vehicle at all. I'm just wanting to find out so my Kinetic model kit can be more accurate.

Thanks
Bob

Ooh, okay, I see what you're talking about now. I have no idea, I never noticed it before oddly enough. I wonder why it's only on the front windows.

Thanks for posting the pics Pascal! The ambulance would make a great conversion.

Here's a dumb question..the headlights on the first pic almost looks different in shape? The light almost has a "crown" shape to it?

LED headlights. Same type that can be fitted to most MRAP's, the MTV series, HMMWV's, HEMMT's, etc...

Great ideas & posts to all. The M-ATV is not one of my Fav's
Of MRAP's, but excellent data & info. I completed the MRAP
Course @ Texarkana in 2010 so I have trained on 6 diff. models of MRAP. In my warped modeling mind, I think I would attempt a Trumpeter LMTV/CAIMAN conversion. Although my FAV
Is the BUFFALO

If you're looking for ways to make your truck stand out, look for some of the more colorful and interesting "truck art" that's out there.

Pascal had made a comparison between several manufacturers with the real dimensions of the wheels and you can see that the Blast Models and the DEF Model wheels are a good option for the Panda Model kit

Finally, I got the courage to start the Kinetic kit.
Too lazy to do a step by step new topic, so will post some pics of the finished model -whenever it happens....-
I have a question based on these pics : where the h#ll does the crew store all this equipment, mainly the support weapons as rocket launchers, etc. ????
Inside the beast? I find the interior a bit crowded...
In the bed at the back of the vehicle? I could not find a pic showing this...

Thans!

There is hardly anything in that truck in the link, hardly a combat load. That truck has been downloaded since it's on the FOB and they don't want their stuff ganked and or they don't go out very often. You need a number of things to make an effective and realistic load out for an operational M-ATV.

Hardly anything???? Where would you sit if you crammed any more stuff in there???

Am I correct in thinking that those seats are mounted purely via straps? I can't see any mechanical link between the truck and the seats??

Nige
Welcome to the second biggest complaint users have of the M-ATV. To illustrate what we would take on missions, check out the pictures below. This is a MaxxPro of course, so we could fit more, but this isn't even that big a load.

The largest load we ever carried was in my RG-31. I had 1,500 rounds of .50 and almost 6,000 rounds of 7.62, 2 AT-4's, and a Javelin and CLU all inside the truck. Then add in a few thousand rounds of linked 5.56 for the SAW's and a thousand or so 5.56 in pre loaded M4 mags and extra 40mm 203 ammo and frags smoke and associated bang for the dismounts. That's just ammo of course, then you have extra fuel, water, food, the coffee maker, speakers for the iPod and an assault pack for each crew member and dismount, and that's just ammo and gear, now you still need to fit 5-6 people in it and it fills up quick.

When looking at these pictures, this was after our final mission when we were turning over our trucks to our replacements, so we were a bit light on some things. Also keep in mind that a Cougar, MaxxPro, and RG series all have external stowage compartments in which a lot of that stuff gets stored. M-ATV's don't have any stowage compartments, just the bed.

As for the seats, and this applies to MaxxPro's as well, they are designed to compress during a blast so as to absorb the energy that otherwise gets put right into the passengers body breaking their back/legs/neck etc... They are suspended through a series of ropes and pulleys as can be seen on the walk around posted by Chris Green on this site that I linked to above. Rob Skipper's CD is excellent for interior shots of the M-ATV. I don't have any as my command would not allow us to ride in M-ATV's.
Depends on the truck. Ammo can be stowed inside the M-ATV but it's very difficult to access, most trucks now have the bustle racks on the turret that hold a good deal of ammo, enough to get you through a TIC untill you can redistribute from the bed or other trucks. Other weapons, like AT-4's, SMAW-D's, LAW's, Javelins etc.. would have to be either strapped to the turret somehow, or more likely in the bed. In our Cougar's and RG's we zip tied them to the inside of the roof so they would be above the heads of the dismounts and could be removed with a good yank breaking the zip ties. Same for our shotguns, one per truck and it was zip tied to the roof with the muzzle facing the rear doors.

The other thing to keep in mind is that with an M-ATV you have less space, so crews might just carry less stuff or use a larger vehicle like a MAxxPro as sort of a mothership since you can fit a lot more stuff inside one of them.

I guess the best advise I could give is to try to think like a soldier that is crewing that particular vehicle. Where would you want your ammo stowed if you were the gunner so you could access it? Also keep in mind that everything needs to be tied down, preferably with ratchet straps of various sizes for ammo and larger thing, and bungee cords for smaller things like personal gear. One more thing to keep in mind, the mission drives your gear and your load out. A PSD teams M-ATV's load out would be different than an infantry line company's truck for example.
