That large antenna is a mobile radio communication role and was used to direct Luftwaffe bombers to their intended targets. The second antenna is a multi-purpose antenna.
Later versions had the star antenna installed.

I thought the big antenna was used to pick up signals from the Death Star.

A closer pic
http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=10476Apparently they sometime used the big antenna as a support for a sunshade. You can notice that there is a different antenna on the roof

Yeah, during production a lot of residents were missing their shower curtains.
Go figure.

WELL,now that I know every thing in the whole world there is to know about antennas

I still say, even in the pics it looks a little tapered to me.But it could be my eyes playing tricks on me again.
Jeff S....was there a preference as to what was on the shower curtains?,flowers, fishies, polka dots? If I build one of these,I want it to be at least close to correct

Hello Gentlemen,
Thanks to everyone for the kind words and for following along.
Im gonna be completely honest here. Ive only been building for five years and before that i didnt know squat about armor, so when i go into a build im going in pretty clueless. I start building and learning about the subject as i go. You coulda said The big antenna was an old shower curtain design and if now one disputed that it would wind up in my notes as a shower curtain repurposed for Military use.

Oh and the design on the curtain would be little Hitler heads and swastikas.
I replaced the styrene with a thin gauge wire that looked better but doesent have the taper. I probably stretched 6 or 8 times on spare sprue trying to get 3in. of good antenna and just didnt get it right. so wire it is!
John - Of course its for that. How else are they gonna be able to communicate with Gunnery Sgt. Vader.
Hey Fellas. Me and Phil need to know what type of beans the Fox is eating in the pics. Pork-n-Beans or Beannie Weinnies?
Mauro - Thats what i thought it was the whole time, a conopy frame.
Thanks fellas,
Gary

Gary: The only problem I have with it is that I have to look at the photos instead of seeing it on my table!!
Seriously Gary, you have the gift! What an incredible example of your work. The Grief needs to go to a contest.
Can't wait to see it next to a Kubel on the Libyan plain.

@BBD468 – Gary,
As it stands now your rendition on the Greif has far exceeded the reference photograph you posted when you begun this project. Good to hear that you’ll be returning back to this project again. The Tamiya kit is really dated by today’s molding and detail standards and as you may already know Dragon recently released a well detailed Greif but this just goes to show all of us that in the hands of a skilled and talented craftsman an old kit can be turned into a masterpiece. Gary, you certainly do have the POWER with you!
I can’t wait to see what you have in store for all of us to see once you have the Kubelwagon in your hands and all the figures sorted out. How fitting that would be to create a 3D piece of history on a base with some oldie but goodie kits.

Hello Eddy,
Thanks so much for you kind comments and for your advise and support. I hope the Kubelwagon, if i manage the negotiation, will be a great addition to a nice scene for a dio. Many thanks my friend!

Just waded through the entire thread and, apart from being stunned by you amazing work I am sorely tempted by that kit. Can you confirm it was mostly oob? Like the detail you give on your techniques, I can build but need more exposure on painting and weathering, this thread justbgives me what I need...... thank you
