I've been a bit slow to check this thread out but oh man...

Mr. Rutman, you do a darn fine job with your figures and I've already learned a few new ideas to try and I'd like to thank you for putting it all out there, rather than just showing photos of the finished dio and giving short, not very detailed responses when people ask about their techniques.

I'll be watching this one!

Hi Jerry,

Great to see more pics! Thanks for that!
These birch seeds really look the part. I've collected quite bit of them...including all the bugs sitting on them (you have to keep the missus happy now, don't you ).

Please do keep us happy and post more!!

Cheers

Romain

Thanks Barry,
Very nice of you to point that out. I have no secrets! I also have only enough ego to keep me breathing so I don't care about trying to maintain any mystery. I am always happy to give an explanation but my ability to describe things is a limitation sometimes.
Nice to have you on board buddy,

Glad to oblige,
You are a better man than me. I just buy the seeds in a packet! Heheheh. They make all kinds of colors as well. Very nice autumn ones for one thing.
Andy Argent did a wonderful dio that was at Telford last year that showed an autumn scene. Spectacular.

Almost have the ruts in the ditch where I want them. I will have to blend in the mud to the vehicle when I stick it on the base.
More pics for Romain, hope this isn't too many.

Sacre!! Merde!! The Comte will MOST ASSUREDLY not be pleased with his road now!

Now to repair the vehicle which has gotten the worse for wear after all the test fits. Still more fig work to accomplish as well. Oi!!

Any ideas??

Good idea. I think the old man looks like a Claude? Or maybe Henre?
The Comte could maybe be Heinrich,Graf von Heisslich und Billig? Or???

Be serious, if there is a Claude somewhere in this it should at least be the comte!

OK,got my commision work done so back to this.
I think John Hoenigs' Plumosa fern can be pretty convincing. You have to play around with the placement of the pieces a bit. I used a base piece of fern and then glued little bits to it for a more 3-D effect. Otherwise the fern looks very flat.
Anyhow,what say yea?

I think it's very convincing, Jerry.

The extra bits glued on to the bulk-up the branches add a lot to the look.

Replicating evergreen trees and limbs is one of those tasks that's so very hard to pull off, but like I said, I think this is very convincing.
