It's getting lonely in here.
Where's everyone gone ? I hope you all haven't gone to the pub
without saying anything
Todays update. Goodbye zimmerit but I know you're there and I'll see you again on another StuG

Hi John nice to see you here . Yep you got it, I used the
good ol´ tamiya kit once again. The build is just so straight forward and fast, why use an expensive Dragon kit for a conversion like this?
Well I'm calling her done the so called "StuG III G Transsexual"
I hope you all like it
Look on:
Maybe I'll do another for this one , I still have another
3 StuGs in the stash. But it won't happen just yet, later in the year perhaps

I don't know why I want to tackle this kit but somehow it has been calling out to me. The old Imperial Series Stug III Ausf. A. I have a Jordi Rubio barrel, Aber photoetch set, a pair of the old Friulmodellismo clamp together tracks and some aftermarket dry transfers from Archer to dress it up. Some time long, long ago and far, far away I started working on the hull of this kit, removing the access door and cutting of the front return rollers. After 15-20 years the putty should be dry!

Nice choice Cam, getting the old ones back to the bench.
Great work Paul !
I ran out of StuG's on the last StuG Campaign.
2 Tamyia's, 1 Dragon and a mk IV from Italeri.
Early StuG from Tamyia was one of the best.
Anyway looking forward to see what's next on Paul's Bench !!

Nice way of putting things John , I just hope you mean the kits.
As for my next bench monster, it's the KV 122 for my KV campaign . After that I am not sure - WW1, What if 4, Desertised, Bronco, Churchill......
Cam that is a great kit, it might have a couple of issues, but looks great when completed. I did the Italeri rebox many years ago and I really happy with it.

Back to my Russian track links
I like the weathering you did on the tarp & wooden boxes, did you finish it with oils ? washes ?

John and Sal, thank you bros .
The colour on the tarp started with Revell Matt 89, the straps are Tamiya XF10, this was then covered in a wash of burnt umbra.
After it was dry it got a dry brushing with Model Master sand 33513.
Two boxes were painted in XF63 and two XF61, these were drybrushed with Model Master wood 1735 then a wash with burnt
umbra and a final drybrushing with MM wood once more.
Now back to the KV122, happy weekend all

Looking around seeing all these beautiful StuGs here, so I just went and bought the last piece of the puzzle to get my build going again!
The Voyager PE35294 will get me back at my very dusty tank!
(I really want that ribbon I made)

Hi guys ...Wow some really nice builds going on here .. I just signed up for the campaign ..I should be getting my kit next week so I"ll post the before picture as soon as I get it. It will be the final Stug IV kit by Dragon sent to me by Jim to blog ,so why not two birds with one stone..lol
Paul nice build ... I don't know anything about this version of Stug III but I was wondering, is the MG shield different on this version . I've always thought that it was the front part of the loaders hatch that kept the shield up.. So if the hatch is closed ,the shield would be laying flat.. just wondering.
Keep up the awesome work guys
Rick

Hi Rick, I know what you mean, but I checked my references and they show that the shield could stand on it's own. This you can find in W.J.Spielbergers Sturmgeschütz development and production.
The shield on this version is also different from the usual G
version, in that it is in fact two shields. Like spaced armor
for the loader.
Thanks for the kind words also.

Hi Paul ... You mean all stugs could have the MG plate stay up even with the hatch closed? Or would it fall down moving over rough ground? I swear I always thought it had to be locked in place ,but I must admit it always struck me as being a pain in the butt for the loader to have to open his hatch ...expose himself to go reach for it ...then fiddle with the hatch to lock it in place .. This has been one reason why I have never finished a stug..I like the look of the shield but didn't want to redo the interior.. The one I'll be doing has the remote control MG but I like the look of the older model with the shield.. Thanks for the info..might just get two stugs outta me here..lol
