Hi Robert .. Good to see a classic Tamiya kit being built ... Are you sure that zimmerit is made for that kit?? Seems kinda old for Eduard to make a set for it ...Just wondering ,because if it's not made for that kit ,you'll be swearing .
have fun with the kit.
Great work so far guys ..

Rick,
according to the Eduard site this is the right set for this kit, old as it is... so far no fit issues other than my fingers casuing trouble, but the pieces so far have been single - when it is 2/3/4 pieces over a small area no doubt i will find problems... pictures to morrow of progress

This is where I have my Stug III at as of now:
Still a coat of gloss, decals and weathering to go.

Dang, totally forgot I had enlisted into this campaign.. I started DML 1/72 Stug III G on last autumn but didn't take any photos in any stage.. So most of it is built, except tools, that I'll paint separately. Hull in under painting stage. So, if I have extra time, I guess I have to grab that 1/35 Stug III C/D from my stash later....

@Rob, love that zimmerit and looks like it fits quite well too!
@FirstSergeant, will be interested to see how that comes out as I have a 1/72 Dragon Stug III in the stash that I may build as well.
I am calling my Stug finished, but it will be going into a diorama (my first 1:35 one)
Painted with model air dunkelgelb and weathered with two filters, washes and oil paints, very happy with how it came out

Yep I had the same problem mate, big hands are a pain when scale modelling
And after doing that zimm I now have a pet hate for superglue, I think I nearly lost most of my fingerprints to that Stug

Thanks Paul, I used Gunze Mr. Setter.
Brush some on to the area the decal is going, slide on decal and then brushed some more over the top. Used a tissue to get rid of excess and then a stiff brush to lightly poke the decal into the zimmerit.

Tony: nice looking younger and older brothers there
They're gonna look when fully painted an weathered
Robert: she's coming on fine, that zimmerit does a lot for that old girl
Well here we go then, to start with I printed the only 2 pics (I have) of this StuG out and had a good long look at them. This is what I noticed and needs to be dealt with:
1. The frontal armour plate is the factory fitted welded type
2. There needs to be extra armour plate added to the top of
front of the slanted armour. On the normal StuG you can see
a shot trap at the roof join, this armour plate does away
with it.
3. The loaders hatch appears to be a one piece sideways
opening field mod. If anybody has evidence of this please
let me know.
4. Zimmerit applied only to the following areas:
a. Left and right lower hull sides
b. Lower frontal bow armour
c. Sidal extensions of the Saukopfblende
d. Front right and possibly left casematt horizontal armour
plate
e. rear deck / rear casematt, this is an educated guess
5. There is a small oval shaped plate in front of the notek
light
6. Stowage rack on rear deck.
So here you have some pics:
frontal armour plate
the shadowed area gets zimmeri, the pencil line is for the extra armour plate to rid the shot trap:
Bow armour plate with damaged zimmerit:
hull sides with damaged zimmerit:
rear lower hull:
It's Saturday evening and time for some music and beer
see you tomorrow

Hi all,
i'll join the campaign with this beauty:
This build will be done OOB, because i'm not a fan of this AM madness. Exceptions to this rule maybe accessories like barrels, crates and personal gear and/or the addition of tracks and barrels if needed.
Let us enjoy this campaign and have fun.

Guys the builds are looking awesome, and Paul. The Zimmerit is bloody awesome, well done!
I finished my first Stug earlier on, but may have to go an get another one to build..just for fun
May do something crazy though like the "Girls Und Panzer" Stug III, if I can track down the kit on evilbay!
