Not that i'm an expert here, but I believe the only unit fielding Stug IVs on D-day was the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division Götz von Berlichingen.
StuG Abt 1331 of the 331st Infantry Division (in combat from early August) also appears to have stug IVs.
looks like pz.abt 301 as well.... does anyone have a decent all -over painting scheme for 301 or 17th ss stu iv/ can find a good side-on for 301 but that doesnt help with the main hull nd top/front views....
thanks guys

If you mean Pz.Abt (Fkl) 301 whose 4th company served in Normandy, they were Stug III equipped.
(Damnit i'm doing the kind of nit-picking i'd hate to be on the end of. Have some stug IVs to paint up so i've been looking to see who used them in the West)

Tony very nice two builds you're doing there, I might also be tempted to do two. Just depends on how my first one goes
Jason nice zimmerit their but are you it was for the Dragon kit? After the problems you have mentioned it could of been for the Tamiya version
Well here is my build, I'm going to use the Tamiya StuG
with these Magic tracks and Saukopf Blende from Dragon
this RB Models 75mm main gun
some self made zimmerit applied with a homemade "waffel"
pattern tool
and this PE set from Amorscale
to try and produce this exquisite example of a Sturmgeschutz III G
I hope to get started either later today or tomorrow morning.

@Paul, that's going to be a real cool project, are you going to build it damaged as per the photo?
I just checked the packet the Eduard Zimmerit came in and it's for the Dragon kit. Most of the bits around the superstructure were perfect, with only the pieces around the driver's view port requiring modification.

have to agree with that Paul. You've got me itching to have a go at another Stug. Always fancied doing some homemade zimm, what did you make the stamp with?

Jeff, thanks mate, I hope that the build itself turns
out just as good
Jason, I'm going to depict her a few days before she was ko'd
Andy the tool is made from a piece of scrap aluminium rod, 45 mm long, which I found at work. This was then reduced at one end to 7 x 5mm. Into this end I filed away until I had 25 pyramid style protrusions. This I then beat up so that some of the points work knocked off. This is then pushed into the putty and voila, instant waffle zimmerit.
Here's two pics from a Tamiya StuG I did in 2007:
I hope this time round turns out just as good

Really liking everyone builds. Looking forward in seeing the final product. Liking both the photo etch and scratch made Zimmerit.
Here is where I'm at. The metal barrel was crazy with all the small bolt heads that needed to be placed in the gun mallet. It made me almost crossed eyed. Need to find some de-bonder to correct the commander copula. Wasn't aware that I have assemble is backwards. Once I correct it I will be close position to start painting. But first to assemble all the tracks.

Hey Everybody,
So much good work going on I'm going to start mine.
I dub it "FrankenStug"!!
The old Tamiya Stug. IV kit with Eduard PE, a smattering of Aber, Bronco, and Voyager PE parts, an RB barrel (if I can find it) and the individual link track set from Trumpeters' Heuschrecke. Stowage from the scrap drawers featuring all major and minor manufacturers.
2014: Inventory reduction year!

@Mike, looking bloody awesome! the metal barrels are fiddly but well worth the trouble!
@Paul, that hand applied Zimmerit looks the goods. I may try something similar (though not waffle pattern!) with a 1:72 Stug III I have in the stash as I will probably build that also for this campaign.
@Charlie, I look forward to seeing the progress on Frankenstug!
Did some more work on my Stug today with some painting and priming inside the superstructure, as well as placement of hatches (which will all be open). The vision blocks have been painted but won't be fitted until after the external colour is on.
And then I got stuck into the rear deck, heaps of photoetched zimmerit here!

Hey Robert,
Right there with you. So many options and only one kit.
Eastern Front, October '44. Beyond that, three color for sure and I'd like to do the dotted side shields but from the pictures I've seen that's a late model so...
What about yours?

@Robert, will be interested in seeing how your Eduard zimm fits as I had a ton of trouble with mine!

well so far not too bad (no photos yet). lower hull sides went on ok as did the front lower glacis pieces. The rear was a little more fiddly but got that in... will put some more photos up tomorrow i hope - the 222 is ready for weathering and detailing so this one will take a little bit of a back seat...
